Butler vs UNC will be somewhat telling for a lot of reasons......A) Butler is not as talented/quick as UNC.....but will serve as a basketball clinic for a lot of fans that are clamoring for "shooters", as if it determines basketball games.
Just as important as "shooters", is boxing out, defensive rotations by your players, does the team make the extra pass to an open teammate, are they willing to take an offensive charge??
There are more shooters and scorers on North Carolina, but until there were 3 minutes left in the Arkansas game, UNC played casual defense for most of the game. They got away with playing so-so defense.
If you want to know why certain schools with less talent/size like Butler/Wichita State/Xavier stay afloat against these teams down to the wire, it's because they cover those other bases.
Right now the ACC is a league that is dedicated to scoring/running and isn't playing defense the way some other leagues are playing it.....aside from Duke getting mauled by South Carolina, the biggest hit, has to be Florida State and Virginia getting absolutely embarrassed....For FSU to give up 90+ to an Xavier team that limped to the finish line and for UVA to run a worse offense that relies on one guard to generate offense is terrible.
I think it's a one-year blip for the ACC, but the trend line away from defense is telling.....Florida guards everything, as does Wisconsin and South Carolina.....three of those teams made it to MSG....not Villanova and not Duke. The fact that there wouldn't be a shock for fans to see Butler beat Carolina tells you all you need to know about what wins in basketball.
