i expect a few additions to be announced on jan 2nd, a day after ohio states bowl game.

He looks like he is 12 years old? What does his resume look like?

Well... Wasn't EJ Barthel the recruiting coordinator?? I think he did a great job getting in contact with top athletes and getting them on campus. Not his fault that FLOOD couldn't close!

It really shouldn't be/isn't THAT difficult to get top NJ kids to make visits to their home state school. EJ was brought here because - and this is what we were told by the self-proclaimed "experts" who are no longer here - he would "land the best kids in the state for RU," to to his "tight connections" with them. Well, guess what, that didn't happen, at all, so maybe EJ isn't the answer?

Hey, EJ got them here. If FLOOD couldn't close the deal because of his personality and the negative culture that he let progress during HIS tenure as coach, then that's on FLOOD.

The mods posted on the Round Table, specific and various instances which they saw, on how Flood's actions and mostly inactions as head coach led to a negative culture on the team

Listen i KNOW Flood couldn't close the kids, and I agree it's "on him," but that wasn't my point. My point was very, very specific:

There were a small group of people who, I guess are "buddies" with EJ, flat-out told everyone here that THE reason EJ was brought here was to bring these guys to RU with him. Not for visits, not for kind words, but to "sign on the dotted line." Didn't happen, at all, period, IF we lose EJ is it really a "loss"?

I think it normal for a new coach to clean house and start with their own people. That's why I thought it was strange when people complained when Schiano took his asst coaches with him. Most would have been terminated if another coach was hired or even a flood might not have hired them.

He still might be the recruiting coordinator.

Don't knock it. Quiet period may not rule out reaching out to recruits by telegraph, which may give him a distinct advantage.

He will have a "distinct recruiting advantage" at every retirement home, BINGO Sunday, and "Early Bird" special throughout the State of Florida.

Not for nothing, the bulk of the damage was done by the time EJ was hired. His hiring was, in part, an attempt to overcome the hard feelings created by Flood's heavy handed approach towards commits the cycle before. You remember the whole "we won't save scholarships for commits that visit other schools" fiasco. That alienated many of the hs coaches in the state, and nothing short of regime change would have given us a clean slate with those guys. I think he could have done a lot better had he not been handicapped by all that baggage from the outset.

Doesn't mean I think he should stay or go, I don't have any skin in the game, but in fairness the guy was put in here like a one-legged man in an ass kicking contest. Unwinnable situation, IMO

So you ar

So you are naive enough to believe that any recruiting coordinator has the gravitas to get kids to commit even if the head coach does not?

I believe he's saying it's not a huge miracle to get NJ kids to visit the only FBS school within NJ.

People are claiming that E.J. is some sort of magician that's irreplaceable. That's setting the bar really low!

If getting kids to just visit your school is the standard, than anyone can do that. That's setting the bar pretty low!

I have yet to find out what makes E.J. such a necessity.

No, not at all, my comments go hand-in-hand with the thought process that losing EJ is not a big deal whatsoever.

Agree.

(Not sure I agree he would have made a difference otherwise, however....who knows)

.

If "anyone can do that," then howcome the coordinators before him couldn't get any 4 stars to visit? EJ brought in a ton of them, all to no avail. That, again, is on Flood.

Amazing how so many here have no clue what a recruiting coordinator's role is! Apparently it is there job to not only establish a relationship with potential recruits but also to convince the recruits to commit the next four years of their lives to the program. If he gets them to commit he is a good coordinator, if not he deserves to be fired. Strangely enough the head coach plays a minimal role in all of this.
