Adam Caltury

Imho my personal belief is that EJ will be let go by Ash. Whether this is his replacement or not is another story but I think EJ will be gone.

There are several recruiting coordinators on staff. The question is who will be Da Boss.

So....not that Meyer will hackle difficulty replacing staff but I wonder if Ash's raid of tOSU will cause any animosity between the two??

Doubt it. Urban is happy to see his staff get promoted

Not likely - considering this has played out quite professionally. Would guess that Ash gives a heads up & Meyer gives his blessing.

Not for nothing, the bulk of the damage was done by the time EJ was hired. His hiring was, in part, an attempt to overcome the hard feelings created by Flood's heavy handed approach towards commits the cycle before. You remember the whole "we won't save scholarships for commits that visit other schools" fiasco. That alienated many of the hs coaches in the state, and nothing short of regime change would have given us a clean slate with those guys. I think he could have done a lot better had he not been handicapped by all that baggage from the outset.

Doesn't mean I think he should stay or go, I don't have any skin in the game, but in fairness the guy was put in here like a one-legged man in an ass kicking contest. Unwinnable situation, IMO

I find this so amusing because Flood actually did what probably a significant majority of posters on here said should be done - which was to say that if you are still looking you aren't committed and we will feel free to replace you. And it completely blew up in his face, and likely ruined any chance he had of success here. Says something about how meaningful the general point of view is.

So we can expect to see a story on nj.com as soon as they see this thread, yeah?

Yeah - ... and bet this is the title : "Five things you need to know about Adam Caltury"
They just can't seem to get enough of those 'five things' articles

Its funny, they still aren't up to speed with your average tabloid website. Headline is supposed to be "30 Reasons Adam Caltury Won't Succeed at Rutgers.....You won't believe what #19 is."

It's how you handle it that Flood didn't know. Flood shouldn't have confronted the recruits but should have continued to recruit for the position and assume he was leaving. In the end, you take back his offer if you have to many commits.

Ohio State recruiting assistant Adam Caltury has accepted the director of recruiting position at Rutgers.

Adam Caltury, is coming from a highly structured, systematic recruiting function with history & national connection and state-by-state strategies.
The harsh reality is that
(1.) Adam Caltury may walk in the door with immediately a better set of connections to key NJ programs than the previous RU personnel working the state of NJ had.
(2.) Having worked in a more highly developed system, Adam Caltury will be bringing structure, performance metrics, strategies, methods, technology and on & on.

No disparagement meant toward any of the previous staff - just that if you want to make a quantum leap forward, sometimes it is imperative that you bring in new people with new ideas and with understanding of how things are done in a "Best in Class" organization.

The only way to get away from the "Same old Rutgers" is to stop being the same old Rutgers.

I don't know if we can match OSU anytime soon, but if we even get half way there, we will be a LOT BETTER than we are now. If we only get a 3rd way there, we will be better than we have ever been in history.

Love pulling people from OSU. If there is one program we want to emulate, it's that one. The way to do that first and foremost is understanding how they do it.

That would seem to make sense - and it may make great sense for E.J. Barthel
EJ could be told -we are creating a new structure & we are bringing in new strategies, technology & personnel with experience in these aspects
we really like you - we feel you can contribute - and that you will benefit from learning and being a part of this whole new approach...

By hiring Ash Rutgers has become a fast follower

I had to google for the term......interesting stuff....

Also....
I've been reading up all kinds of old links on Adam, and, as the links from earlier in the thread go, it looks like he educated himself on the ins and outs of the big time recruiting process and set himself up for this kind of work just by "representing" one of his players, who was the top player Western PA and a national five star recruit......Robert Foster, who ended up going to Alabama.

It looks like just in the process of dealing with recruiters all the time, Adam educated himself on the exact kind of work......and I guess he applied right to the big boys.

EJ was brought in due to his connections with prior recruits and has proven he has the right personality to bond with the kids. As someone said, bringing in someone who has experience at the highest levels of recruiting should be a great opportunity for EJ to grow and learn this business. I believe even before Ash, there were a few staff positions for recruiting at Rutgers and given Ash's bigger budget, I would think he could add an extra head count if needed.

It's funny how with Partridge and Michigan being idiots, Jersey folks might actually start seeing Ohio State with kinder eyes than they have in the past.

Gotta say I pretty much hate that latest ad sales technique. Even respectable websites are getting into it now. Why put a few ads on a single page that lists all 30 reasons when you can sell dozens more ads and generate that many more page hits by forcing visitors to click through 30 page loads, all of which are slow-loading on mobile devices due to all the freaking ads on each page.
