Alabama/Ohio State

I like our chnaces against Bama. The struggled scoring on LSU and I believe our defense is better than LSU, and I know our offense is.

Best wishes with that thought. 13 teams thought they had a chance against Alabama this year with the same results. IF, and that is a BIG IF, you beat Alabama, you will deserve the crystal football.

Personally, I don't think OSU stands much of a chance. But good luck anyway.

The reason Rutgers is receiving less money for the first 5 years is that Rutgers is buying in to their share of the Big 10 network.

Nebraska had to do the same thing.

Forget football for a minute and think of it this way:

A group of 13 attorneys/accountants/engineers are looking to add a partner who has a specialty (expertise in the New York market) which is not held by one of the existing partners.

They interview and offer to hire attorney/accountant/engineer Rutgers, a New York expert, who agrees to a salary of $300,000 per year based on projected incomes from a variety of sources.

However, during negotiations, it is disclosed that the group owns their building and there will be a requirement for the new guy, Rutgers, to buy into his share of ownership of the building as part of the employment requirements. The building is worth $4,500,000 and there are 15 shares as one share is centralized by a management agency (Big 10). To get the job, our friend Rutgers needs to 'buys in'. The buy in is $4,500,000 / 15, or $300,000. Problem becomes that Rutgers does not have an extra $300,000 laying around, but because the original group of 13 want him in; and he wants in, the partners say "OK, we'll finance it. Instead of getting $300,000, we will give you $240,000 per year and the other $60,000 per year will pay off your share of the equity in the building. Then, after five years, you will own a 1/15 interest in the building which is gaining value and equity every day.

Are you OK with that?

Rutgers has a choice. He can stay in his current job at $95,000 per year or he can agree to the terms of the group of 13 and jump to $240,000 per year and an equity share in a growing investment.

Rutgers thinks about this for a short nano second, says YES and away we go.

The BIG is not instituting a five year wait. It is self financing your purchase of a 1/15 share of the Big 10's ownership interest in the Big 10 network.

Also, I note that I am aware that the BIG owns only a part of the Big 10 network.
This is all fine and dandy. But what happens if that attorney lands a big fish client(NY/NJ metro area) the biggest the company has ever seen. Which will increase their revenue significantly because now everyone wants to be your client(advertising). Do you not include him in some of that newfound money or rather hoard it and distribute it among yourselves for the next 6 years? B1G chose hoard.

Then said partner comes to you and says I'm having financial difficulties could you front me some money just like the other guy. Do you just tell your new partner well you signed a deal and you have to live with it? The B1G chose, Good Luck, we'll be hoarding roughly $55 mil. while you'll be getting paid roughly $15mi. for the next three years. Because we decided that after two yrs.of accepting that deal that $4.5 mil. building is now worth $13 mil.

I broke down the numbers between us and Nebraska. By time all is said and done we will pay almost 62% more to enter the B1G. Their payouts were larger even though revenue distributed was smaller to B1G members. I thought we were all buying equal equity into the B1G. I guess not all members are treated equal. So no Nebraska and Maryland for that fact didn't have to do the same thing.

52: I'm not big on exaggerations but I have watched Alabama on at least 4 occasions this year. Now listen to me carefully, if Alabama plays Washington the game will be over at the end of the 1st half. They are as close as you're going to get to a pro team. The Bama defense is stifling and punishing and their offense line will treat the Washington D-Line like 5 year olds. There biggest weakness in my opinion is their QB.

I haven't been impressed with Bama's schedule. SEC isn't what it used to be. Wait until Schiano unleashed the house-on-fire defense on Bama QB

Really? How would you like Texas A& M, LSU, Arkansas, Ole miss, Miss State, Auburn, et al ?

It is as brutal as a B1G schedule(finally) and Bama won them all. Bama has a defensive line as formidable as anything in the NFL.

Good luck in the playoffs.

So what are you saying we joined at the perfect time? RU has been known to have impeccable timing.:)

Well the fact that LSU fired it coach this season tells you something about SEC this year. Aside from Bama ALL SEC teams had 4 or more losses. Only Bama is ranked in top 12. Bad year for SEC. B1G is now the king of leagues

I will gladly praise the B1G AFTER the bowl season. Let's see how you do versus the SEC OVER THE NEXT MONTH. If you have a winning record versus the SEC in bowl games, I will sing the B1G praises. If you don't, well I will say SEC, SEC, SEC!

Well SEC fans still rank at the top

and WTF is up with the B1G in instituting this 5 year wait before we receive full shares, who the fuct does that help ! It makes us the whippin boy and practice game for the elitist of the league.....shame on them.

Nebraska and Maryland had to do the same thing. It had to do with buying into ownership of the Big Ten Network. The league shares ownership of the network, and for Rutgers to receive a full dividend, it had to 'buy' its way into the league since all the other schools had their own costs for startup. It's fair if you think about it. Why should a new school get to be full owners without paying their way?

Schiano's defenses have traditionally struggled against the type of offense Alabama runs now. I would have agreed with this statement when Alabama was running a pro-style offense.

Outside of Alabama being the best team in the country, this is obviously true. The Big Ten is clearly superior to the SEC this year when you look at the number of top quality teams.

The B1G has more quality teams, but probably also more outright poor teams than the SEC this season.
