Alex Barbir-PSU and Louisville Offers

I think the only thing holding him back right now is that Michigan wants to greyshirt him.

Which makes me wonder why Barbir wants to play bridesmaid in this convoluted mess, waiting to see if someone is willing to greyshirt.

Rutgers will win very few perception recruiting battles until they start defeating B1G East division teams on a regular basis.

Exactly. JMO but I wouldn't even entertain the notion (said the same thing with our recent offer to Dwumfour).

The way I look at it is penn state is done waiting. If Babir wants to commit he takes Nordins spot. Simple as this.

True, but again if I'm Barbir or his family I'm saying, "oh, you're done waiting after 6 months and now I'm good enough for you?"

sorry but his family isn't saying this, only us RU fans who could be butt hurt are. What they might be saying is son, you gave a commitment now stick with it. I know thats what I would be telling my son. If he secretly wanted to go to PSU then he probably will if they offered.

It's his life.

While Rutgers football could certainly use him, the QB/OL situations are actually more alarming at the moment.

A long-range FG here or there isn't going to matter much if the top teams are posting 50-burgers on us.

And with respect to the "field position" game -- having the opponents start at the 35 as opposed to the 20 only matters if your defense is a difference maker that makes critical stops. It isn't in its current iteration.

Would you trust an offer from this:

Here's the recruiting pitch. Show him all of our block kicks, and you can say do you want to be on this side or that side.:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I hope he sticks it out, not a big fan of "Johnny come lately" recruiting. I know its part of the game, but how do you say "WE REALLY WANT YOU, now that the guy we really wanted got away." I couldn't (or wouldn't) overlook that kind of slight.

Crazy stuff, hopefully Alex does what is right for Alex.
Want him for the scarlet knights, but if we recruit top notch players, we should expect for them to get other offers.
People are insane on twitter.
Would hate to see the stuff that would come out on me if I was ever recruited and switched schools.

I never met Alex but talked to fans/parents (not his) at a couple of South Forsyth's games. From what I heard, he's a great kid. He plays a pretty safe position so hopefully he'll have a long career in the pros. The 3-4 years in college is just a blip and not a life changer, certainly not for him. I'm going to predict no matter where he goes, he'll have such a positive influence on the rest of the team he'll have a "C" on his jersey by his Junior year. I don't have the time to research it but has any place kicker at any college been elected to Captain?

If thats the kind of character kid he is he's sticking to his word...i doubt hes gonna chase a car salesmen like Franklin who never showed love till he was deserted by most of his staff leaving him alone and ''scrambling''....he's all BS and a lousy coach..

This is the way it is in recruiting. Every staff has "Plan A" kids, "Plan B" kids and so on all the way down the line. Some programs tell the kids up front where they are, others don't. I don't know the recruiting style over at the State Penn, but if they honestly told Alex from the outset that he was plan b to Nordin and now go hard after him, I would think that at the very least the Barbirs would appreciate that they have been straightforward. If not, then I agree with what you said above.

Alex & his family may have concluded that it would be best to follow an intentional path - not one that is at the mercy of & shaped by others deciding what is best for themselves.

Quinn Nordin has not de-committed from Penn State - Nordin is still Franklin's number one choice and will remain so as long as Nordin remains a commit. The Penn State opportunity really only becomes viable if Nordin announces a change in plans.
- - and Nordin, who has Michigan and Baylor chasing him AND is scheduled to take an Official Visit with the University of Southern California Trojans this coming weekend - clearly looks like he will not be making any definitive statements about his ultimate choice until after he returns from his final visit.

Doubt he commits to PSU without visiting.

He's ours.

Well, he could just decomitt and reopen his recruitment.....even though there's not a lot of time left.

You can't be so confident....he made several quotes about how stressful he is.....he posts prayers that indicate he's wrestling with something difficult and I'm pretty sure he has family in Pa.

I'd be very happy,to see him stay, but he's been telegraphing how tough this is.

his parents want him at RU..the kid himself is curious about psu,to the point that he wants to visit possibly..which will show with 8 days left ..hes not sold on RU.IMHO He appears to be a second choice backup plan if Nordin bolts..if he is happy for himself as a second choice at PSU,..good luck then..!

He has family in the Lehigh Valley area - Macungie, PA

Macungie PA =
75
miles from Rutgers 90 +/- minutes
162
miles from State College, PA - 2 1/2 +++/- hours
( +++ because you have to take old US 22 for half of the trip)

want family to come see you - ? easier on them to visit Rutgers!

if he is happy for himself as a second choice at PSU....
then it would seem that he would just press ahead - waiting anxiously for other people to make their critical life decisions - so that his options could be changed or not - there would not be a need to make an announcement tonight about whether he will or will not take an OV to PSU.

Alex, by all means pray for guidance on where you should go to college. I hope the answer comes back RUTGERS!

Wasn't he going to make his decision last night? Any update? I haven't seen anything about it. Thanks.

Man since when have PK's created this kind of consternation....i remember when schools rarely ''wasted'' a scholly on them...sorta like long snapper's.....create one from the real athletes on your roster who aren't afraid of contact,,,,,''not saying their all like Ito but damn near''..

appears that the struggle continues for Alex Barbir various comments indicate that he is clearly finding this to be challenging -
He will have to work this out for himself - reconcile his desires, his dreams, his advice from his parents and coaches and what he senses he is being called to do.

He might find inspiration in the work of William of Ockham, a Franciscan friar who studied logic in the 14th century framed out a philosophical principle commonly known as "Occam's razor "- the more assumptions you have to make, the more unlikely an explanation is... or as it is often simplified - the simplest answer is probably the right one.

He is incredibly blessed with with opportunities - but consider -
- one is concrete & straightforward & and very significant & has been steadfastly and unconditionally committed to him from the outset
- another is less certain & is highly conditional because it depends upon the completion of the complicated & extended evaluation process of another recruit who is trying to figure out what is in his own best interest.

I held off for 45 minutes or so, as I didn't want this to come off as a troll post, but since I still see no mention of it here: Word is Barbir has committed to PSU. He hasn't made it official at this point on Twitter or anything, but that's the noise.
