Alvarado Final 3

Pikiell and staff are in a battle here for Alvarado....going to be an all-out effort to get this done.

Facilities near term will remain a problem as compared to other schools that already have upgraded them.Waiting another 2/3 years for the practice facility to be built could be the difference maker with some recruits.

That's what I worry about, facilities being the deciding factor when recruit is trying to find the right program to improve his game.

They should literally build a shack just with an extra indoor basketball court right next to the RAC.For one to two years.

My high school did it. It was called "the bubble"

Standard heating, basic plastic structure with metal frame. Gum basketball court inside. Just another place for the team to play. I wonder how much it would cost.

I hope he likes the engineering plans
Name it the Jose Alvarado Practice Center. If that's not an NCAA violation, naming a campus building after a recruit, it will become one if it works.

We NEED this guy....him and Geo are the perfect first FULL class for the new staff...and then gives them a FULL YEAR to make noise with the class of 2018...

Certain recruits outplay their rankings/size and ability, because they play with heart and determination.....the last recruit that I had that much confidence in based on what I had heard behind the scenes in past recruiting battles RU has had over the years, was with Josh Hart, who ultimately went to Villanova. Hart is not a lottery pick, automatic scorer, but plays defense, guards 4 positions, rebounds and is gritty and added a dimension over the last 3 years that helped Villanova rebound and ultimately win a title.

Alvarado is that type of player....not the biggest or flashiest kid, but "gets it"...rarely does any batch of recruits fit what it takes to rebuild a program match the types of pieces Pikiell and the staff are targeting....they aren't looking solely at recruiting rankings and have shied away from a couple of kids that are not "workers" that have big reputations, but are not going to put in the work.

Sometimes it's not the kid that is going to the NBA the quickest that matters, it's the building-block 4 year kids....Alvarado and Baker are good pieces to start and build together a backcourt. Don't expect that Corey Sanders type of explosive play, where Sanders has a completely different type of game....Alvarado and Baker are more traditional playmaking guards that can set up others to score and understand the game. It would be another and the right type of recruiting win, if RU closes this out.

I've seen the kid play and he's a decent player----- solid fundamentals----lots of intangibles-----limited athletically .

I never saw Josh Hart play in HS but he's a 1st Round player and a vastly different kid athletically.

I was shocked he returned to Nova.

Does he pass well?Just curious.

It just seems like Jose can with Geo bring us to another level. Our staff is just working so hard. I am so glad they are at RU.

They would all probably play four years too, which is a big plus.

I am higher than the majority of Bakers game. I think he will be a great guard when it is all said and done.

I'm not TDIrish but I have seen him play 3 or 4 times. Yes he can pass well. One thing is he rarely leaves the ground and get caught in the air. Less prone to mistakes.

Awesome. Do you consider him a scoring point or a pass first point?Just curious.

Thanks TD.

I consider him a quarterback. I think you see him shoot more in HS because he is the best player on the court. But get him with players of his caliber and you will see him run the show and get all others involved. A true point guard.

I understand your point of view. I saw a lot of shooting, driving, too. Of course people want that, but I like pass first guards. I think he will open up like you said when people are around him.

Pikiel must consider this recruit valuable in the building process of the program .... Major priority no doubt and really good PG's are tough to get!! Really hope he succeeds here!

I wouldn't call him a must get player----------good , solid player.

Rutgers needs guys like that-----no offers from the Heavyweights who work NYC like Nova and Cuse.

There's a reason for that.

Definitely not a Cuse type player. But the type of player that could make a lot of colleges better.

They are established national recruiters, maybe it's Because they had a few other PG's higher on their list? Maybe they don't have a need or spot for a PG this year ? Maybe he is not the ideal PG for their systems..... not talent wise, but style of play. There could a lot of different reasons. Heck..... with only 2 or 3 roster spots for PG's, schools can't offer everyone, even a local guy.

While you are at it, maybe you can explain why Rivals # 36 and # 38 players, who are also Northeast PG's don't have Syracuse and Villanova offers? I guess " there's a reason for that" as well. Other than you trying to take a shot at a Rutgers recruit on the Rutgers board.

Oh man. I do not follow recruiting too heavily, but it would be nice to snag one from SHU.

They have enough talent.
