In looking over the newly posted football roster on the official Rutgers site I found the following items of interest:
1. The roster contains 122 names. NCAA rules limit the roster to 105 until the first game is played. Hence am I correct that 17 of these players cannot participate until the first game.
2. Of the total only 78 are scholarship players by my count unless some deserving walk ons have been awarded scholarships. There are several such former walk on's like Matthews.
3. I count 44 walk ons. Coach has done an excellent job bringing in quality players as walk ons.
4. I don't know how the limits work with regard to players who are injured like Taylor or have academic questions.
5. In any event, I am guessing that this is the most players Rutgers has ever brought to preseason camp.

The roster is limited to 105 players until the first day of classes at whatever school the player goes to. The remaining players can start practice then. Any player who is practicing right now counts against the 105 roster regardless. If a player becomes ineligible when the summer school grades post then the player can be replaced by someone else to stay at 105. If a player gets injured that is going to take a long period to get over they can also be replaced by someone not on the 105 man roster. Once a player has been removed from the 105 man roster they cannot return to practice until the first day of classes.

I counted 81 scholarship players. I include a guy like Andre hunt as a scholarship player bc I think he received one after last season.
