Anemic offense…

Miss Cam’s shooting immensely. Surely could have used him this year. Odd commentary.
Miss Paul getting the ball to Cliff.

The Simpson bashing is odd.
Granted shooting percentage wasn’t great today but 14 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and a clutch three to win the game. Don’t know why everyone ganging up on him. He still has plenty of potential. Only player who makes his own shot.

Plenty of blame to go around. Know Mag gets a pass due to injury but 1 for 9 from the field and more importantly only 3 rebounds is a major problem. Ruins the Mag narrative but hurt us today.

Fernandes can’t disappear. Woolfolk disappeared too. Kept hearing Choi is this great shooter but keeps getting chances and nothing.

Thought the Oskar shot where he flashed to top of the key was nice. Not enough of that.

Do we run any picks? Back doors, plays for Gavin?

Hyatt is Hyatt, good shots but missing them. More concerned with weird angles he takes when driving baseline. Can see shots not going in before even takes shot. Should be facing backboard more.
AWilliams has to hit layups.

Gotta run set plays for Gavin. He’s rushing shots without feet set. Think he needs confidence boost. Still glad he’s not shy but hope he starts hitting shots.
4-15 is terrible. He’s getting good looks he needs to make them. Good 3 at then end but before that he was 3-14 which was part of the reason we were in jeopardy of losing. It happens but he needs to be more consistent.

Not to mention we lost the Minnesota game in unfathomable fashion.
You can have a career and never be involved in game where an opposing team makes the shots they made in the last minute
That was nuts.

______ doesn’t make up for poor play

Pick anyone on the roster
He’s a freshman and he’s adjusting. He will get better. He’s gonna be inconsistent but I agree with your comment and am loving that his d and rebounding is getting better. That can be controlled. The other comes and goes particularly for a freshman.

When the game slows down for bim, is when he will rise. Will happen by letting him play

Funny…One guy who Hawk was so high on being a clear upgrade was Fernandes. Push the ball, get to the basket, faster play…blah blah blah. Diarhea of the mouth for months while trying to make Cam/Paul look like losers. Now in this thread he wants to lessen Noah’s minutes, and we haven’t even hit conference play. Let that sink in. I’d take Paul or Cam over him in a heartbeat, as would 99/100 people on this board. If anyone tries to defend Fernands’ horrible play in an effort to prop him above Paul/Cam, you are just a stone cold moron with a clear agenda. Hawk has been 100% wrong on anything and everything he’s been spouting so far, but preaches on and on. Does he really believe himself?

Right he will be fine as long as he keeps belief in his self and puts in the work every day. He has the raw attributes to be elite..

Pretty much nailed it. We NEVER run backdoor screens for layups in basically whole Pike era. Our entry passing to the post is middle school level

If you are scouting our team, your message would be to stay in front of Simpson, don’t let him get to the basket, and let him shoot all the midrange jumpers he wants since he hits so few of them.

Remember when everyone was flipping out over Austin Williams “lighting up” Baylor and how he’d provide offense.

Was even supposed to come in as a starter?

Seems all the off season reports of offensive ability were off for many players.

You are another one who can't read.

The post was that the backcourt would be better this year than last year. Are you saying Davis is not part of the equation.....??? LMAO

And for the 100th time, there is a basketball roster being changed for beyond this season....which is the ENTIRE part of changing how we play.

The recruiting wins dictate the change....the recruits want to play faster. The recruits are coming on board. They want to see a system that shows the ability to improvise and play with freedom.

Or did you not see Dylan Harper's recruiting information where he clearly stated this exact item??

Maybe it's me, but find the highlights of the RAC last night.....try and keep up.....

Or is it we don’t run one.
What is it?
Stone looked like a pretty well organized team that actually ran sets and cut to the basket
Anemic offense? What offense? You have to have an offenses to be anemic. Right now RU has none!

Been watching RU basketball since the mid '60s. I'm not a Pike basher. I like Pike, but what I saw today was one team that looked fairly well coached (at least on the offensive side) and one team that did not. In the many years that Pike has been coach at RU, I don't think I've ever seen a real offense with set plays or a basic philosophy of offensive movement with a purpose. Sure, I see a "motion offense", but really it looks like 5 guys moving around without any real objective. And this is from a coach who played for Jim Calhoun. We also have Brandon Knight on the staff who was an All Big East point guard. It's hard to understand that with the pedigree of this coaching staff, the offense looks so disorganized. It's obvious against a zone defense, our guys don't know how to attack it. I don't have a problem with the poor shooting. What I have a problem with, is watching an offense that is dysfunctional and disorganized. The team lacks confidence that worsens over time and I see a coaching staff that has a philosophy of expecting the teams talent to be good enough to win games without solid direction.

Well that's great that you've basically written off this season as just a transitional type of year, with all of the talent coming next year.

But most of us want to win and make the NCAA tournament EVERY YEAR, and we're pissed that this year looks to be a complete washout.

How can you be so blase about the utter abomination we've been witnessing on the court in just about every game this year?

This. We should be trying to make the tourney and get a bye or two in the Big Ten. That is now the minimum expectation every year.

I’d be more patient if I felt like the team was giving its all…but there’s an effort problem, something we haven’t had with Pike. And you can tell neither he nor Knight are happy about it by watching them during the games. Everyone looks lost out there.

With modern college basketball, the portal can either make or break you. It helped programs like UConn and SJU, and it really hurt RU. This is especially true considering that CS and PM left at the 11th hour and NF has played below expectations thus far.

Wonder about coaching staff?
Maybe great recruiters but x and o’s?
Inbound defense and inbound offense has been a problem from day one.

The mods already told you multiple times, Mulcahy was having his minutes reduced, he hit the portal, realized he didn't he had the market value he did and ultimately didnt want to leave and go all the way to Washington.....and the staff/players declined to bring him back. How many times does this have to be stated for you to digest??

In terms of Spencer, he is a non factor IMO in terms or short or long term value. Anyone with a clue, would see what Davis, Simpson bring from a defensive standpoint. Those players are part of the long-term plan, Spencer is a short term rental.

If RU was closer to 20 to 21 wins last year, I would have a different point of view. But seeing last season results for all 4 months, investing 32 minutes a game in Spencer, wasn't worth it.....there's better ways to invest NIL money than Cam Spencer, which is why he went to UConn. He has a right to get as much money as possible. I don't think you or others quite comprehend, that decisions and things are bigger than just 1 season.

Cam not being here is huge. And after a lot of crap guard play we've seen, you know Mulcahy would be playing 32 minutes a game. Much better than Fernandes and Simoson.

Pike’s philosophy is defense and rebounding and let your playmakers make things happen on offense. Unfortunately, this year rebounding sucks and we don’t have the playmakers. This formula can work, but our talent level is so bad this year that it can’t be overcome. This is the worst offense for a guy like Gavin who is not a freelancer and would really benefit from an actual offense.
x1000. A ‘make things happen’ offensive scheme is lame-ass coaching.

The harsh reality is that this was going to be a difficult game when Stonehill played a zone defense.Rutgers looked totally unprepared running the same playground offense used against man to man defense.Stonehill knew Rutgers was a woeful 3 point shooting team and their objective was to stop dribble drives to the basket and passes to Cliff for dunks. In the second half Rutgers offense was basically Cliff shooting foul shots and the team shooting bricks from the 3 point line.Thankfully ,Rutgers won the game but how they won is very alarming going forward against league competition.
