Another 2019 offer- Mickey Pearson

I am guessing the timing offer this offer coincides with the strong belief Massoud is going to Wake Forest.

Decommitted from Saint Louis before he went the prep route. Found an article that mentioned high-major schools contacting him (but maybe not offering?)

Massoud is heading to Wake...win some, you lose some....there is an abundance of pieces that can fill this final spot.

@MadRU is quick with hightlights [thumb2]

Wow.... long arms and athletic....and he can shoot it.
Looks like a great athlete who Pike makes into a great defender. Don't really like his shooting form. They never show the shots a guy misses in highlights. The kid does look like he has great upside. Surprised he doesn't have better offers.

Apparently shot nearly 40% from 3 in a big tourney. Would be good to know what his overall stats are there.

This kid looks really good to me, are we really his only offer after going post grad? He had lots of mid major offers as well as Ole Miss and Texas Tech out of high school as class of 18, and committed to St Louis. When he decommitted from them, a bunch of high majors reached out, but he went post grad to take his time and develop further. Surprised if we are the only one to offer him as a class of 19 recruit at this point.

Here is full game footage of John Hardin HS - Mickey Pearson in action. Pearson is #3 in red. Finishes with 24 points.

He is athletic, quick, runs to court well, nice quick release, makes his fouls shots, and when engaged looks fine chasing around smaller players (early in game, until he gets a couple fouls). Probably 6'7", to me one of the best parts of his game is that the ball does not stick in his hand. Even though he is the best player on the court, he keeps the ball moving, makes the "good" pass. He needs to add strength, like most HS players, and he will have to be coached up to be more aggressive on the boards and fighting for loose balls, but I like his game and potential, not sure why he is listed as 2 stars.

Skillet May we see video of your dunks?:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
Actually made my high school team, and had a career total of 3 points, all coming in the same quarter. 50% from the field and 50% from the line. Played with two guys who got drafted in NBA draft after strong B1G careers (but neither of them made it in the NBA).

As to dunking, I almost dunked once. I'm about 6'1.5" and we played once on a court with an incredibly springy floor. In warm ups, I was able to hit the back of the rim during lay ups. Almost fell on my face doing it.

Basketball was by far my favorite sport to play, but I was much better at football and throwing heavy objects.

Would love to hear from more of you, but geez, this kid's full tape looks really good. Good handle, nice quick shot, sees the floor well. Looks really good to me.

What's missing that this guy doesn't have more offers? Are grades still an issue?

I like this kid's deep shot. Hate highlights with dunks. Anybody can dunk. We desperately need shooters.
Oh I disagree my friend. I lost count of the missed dunks I saw at an event I attended Sunday. One of the dunks was blocked by the rim.

Have to defer to you on this one, Russ. You probably see 1000 times as many HS games as I do. Maybe more now that I think about it! It's just that we learn so little from watching a 6'8" guy get a pass down low and then dunk. Much more interested that this guy can hit from 3. Tired of "athletic slashers" which seems to be a euphemism for "can't shoot."

Have you seen Pearson? What's your take on him?

Seems to go equally strong to his left and right. Shooting from behind his head is only a problem if he misses or gets blocked too much, otherwise the release point seems fine to me. Also has confidence from well beyond the arc and also very aggressive at the rim. All that plus his length and ability to run the floor and there’s s lot to like with this kid.

I know everyone will jump on me with the Ron Harper comparsion, Pikiell can coach him up, we need to find under-the-radar guys, etc., but from what I can tell, Pearson is currently a 2 Star player. I certainly was hoping for a but more from this scholarship. If his stock is rising fast (like a Harper) it might be ok, but I can't say I'd be thrilled with this. We should be looking for 4 stars and settling on 3s - not 2s.

IIRC I saw him in Orlando in July with Team Manimal. I would have to pull out my media guide to see if I wrote any notes about him.

He had a dozen or so offers when he committed to Saint Louis. He signed with the Billikens last November.

He didn't request a release until summer and Saint Louis granted that in June.

Since he's going the post grad route, and is at Hargrave, plenty of schools will get a chance to watch him this season. He could pick up more offers then again the schools that offered him for 2018 may just continue to recruit him for 2019.

It's just a guess but he'll probably be a spring signee.

Connie / her husband bought Geoff Petrie's house in West Linn Oregon in 1984.

Small World.

I still hold the record for my 8th grade team, PS#8, Belleville. I shot 2 FT's and drained the second. Never got an opportunity to throw one up during the game since I was the shortest and least talented guy on the team.

As for dunking... I was 5'9" in my Jr. year of HS / could get up about 1/2 way on the net (not bad- but not Calvin Murhpyesque).

I'm now 5'8" (sell... $ELL) and seem to have lost the HOP in my jump shot: which is now a pre - 1950's set shot.

Just a hunch, but I think the RU staff will identify a couple of guys they want and land one of them during the spring signing period. Maybe a HS kid, a post grad kid or even a JuCo guy.

I checked my media guide. But I didn't write many notes on Pearson. I wrote: Intriguing, can hit open perimeter shots if he has time, slow release, athletic but not elite athleticism, defends.
