Another bullying claim within RU athletics

The athletics official has had multiple baseless claims against him. The claims have been investigated and found that he did not violate any workplace rules. People will still complain and expect people to just believe them. That ship has sailed. The university investigated and found no wrong doing by the individual in question. Case closed!

If anyone is being ridiculous, it's NJ.com for posting that clown story. It was investigated and closed with no wrongdoing.

hmmm... read story. I'd replace him. With the best person available (period)... and a Rutgers alum and fan, if a competitive applicant. Did we not know of the WVU allegations when we hired him? Any chance he has the same agent as Hobbs?

So someone new came in (Szul (sp?), realized people already on staff sucked, and tried to clean up the mess.

Because not white males being told by manager their work is not acceptable, race, gender, and “bullying” (LOL) cards get thrown in.

Dopes at Star Liar write a very long article of trash.

Exactly. That is not bullying, that's accountability. Considering the media as a whole goes unchecked, they wouldn't know the meaning of the word if it slapped them across the face.

You think accountants have agents?
who the hell knows.. I didn't think ADs had agents.

2 schools.. 6 or more different underlings... what is it. a conspiracy against him? Rutgers doesn't need that. Search for a replacement and AUDIT him too. If bullying is happening there might be a different reason than most think.

Looks like the West Virginia lawsuit was filed 13 months after he was hired by Rutgers

Either this guy was legitimately trying to drain the swamp in his department and got push back from subordinates or he created a hostile work environment that reflects poorly on RU.

It’s up to his boss Pat Hobbs to make that call. We don’t know the true story at this time.

WVU issue was not found baseless, it was dismissed due to statute of limitations. Folks within RU say it is not better or even worse. I guess he knows what it takes to win a championship in finances and the complainers just can't cut it.

He's probably a pain in the butt to work for, but so are many managers. Being perceived as a jerk doesn't mean he's a racist, a bully etc... I'm sure most on this board have worked for a manager they didn't like, but who got the job done. Not sure why this is even an article.

Exactly.

Stupid, pointless hit piece. A cruel characterization, statewide publicity, for a publicly-named guy who, after careful investigation, was not found guilty of anything much at all.

toss him. doesn't matter if the allegations are overblown. clearly, he isn't that great of an employee if they had to bring in a consultant to do some "training" to avoid a lawsuit previously. hard to stand behind a guy who's already had to be reprimanded for the same crap behavior previously.

The days of bosses being jerks and being kept around because they are good at their jobs are dwindling... societal values and standards change. HR departments have no shortages in finding people who are extremely good at their jobs who have good social skills and are nice people on top of that....even in finance lol..

No idea if this guy is worth the fight or not (and neither does anyone else that isn't involved), but holy shit on the length and breadth of this article. This should have been about 2 paragraphs. We got War and Freaking Peace. The amount of quotes and sources are mindbogglingly excessive.

The real story is these 3 wanna be Pulitzers have a buttload of time on their hands. Yeesh.

Verbally berated in front of other individuals and having something literally thrown in your face is not S.O.F.T. There's a big difference in having difficult conversations to correct behavior with an employee and assaulting them with an object thrown.

Not to mention..terrible manager if those are his normal actions. REALLY develops employee buy-in.

If you’re tossing him clean out the whole department.

everybody under him also.

I love how they slant this article to make it sound like there were many complaints when in fact there were only 2.
The racial discrimination complaint against Szul was filed in July 2017 shortly after he was hired by Rutgers ..... McDonough said the employee who filed the racial discrimination complaint had been laid off due to “a reorganization to make the department more transparent and effective.” The union’s collective bargaining agreement required the employee to be let go due to his short tenure in the department, McDonough added.
So because he was low man on the totem pole (oh, snap, did I just make a politically incorrect reference?) he was let go. BUT, HEY, let's make it a racial issue!
Despite the attempts to improve conditions between Szul and his employees, tensions between the staff and their boss linger, according to two sources who still work at Rutgers and another intimately familiar with the inner workings of the department.
Damn that guy for demanding his people do their job and are accountable for their results. They should fire his ass!

Berate:

verb
verb: berate; 3rd person present: berates; past tense: berated; past participle: berated; gerund or present participle: berating
  1. scold or criticize (someone) angrily.

that may be the case, but that stuff just doesn't fly now. not even in the management consulting world, where this was considered normal behavior. sorry that we're not still in a world from 30 years ago, but it is what it is. the administration essentially admitted that there was an issue when they brought the consultant in. he got offered a 2nd chance and apparently hasn't changed. from an HR perspective, he needs to be gone to avoid lawsuits. from a PR perspective, just dump his ass and move on so that Stanmyre can't keep this fire going.

Perhaps the accusers are "soft", but I contend that this guy is the "softest" of all. None of us have all the details, but this guy makes 225k and cannot properly conduct himself? How hard is it to remember "the golden rule"? The way some people conduct themselves these days is just ridiculous.

Of course, some of the usual suspects here are defending him, but RU shouldn't be in this situation in the first place. I suppose maybe it would have been Hobbs, but...

Whoever authorized payment of 15k to an outside party to "help his performance" instead or just coming down on him by saying "your in a well paying position of power, get it together" (or something along those lines, you know, not "soft"), or dealing with the consequences otherwise (termination) - needs to have their head looked at and probably be fired too.

Whole situation is ridiculous.

when ever I see bullying and toxic used in article I know its just another disgrunted employee with an axe to grind running to the press

seems like a non story, RU investigated they found nothing, looks like some of these younger peeps better growing thicker skins and stop melting
