I had dinner with a close friend and colleague last night, He told me that a significant player has informed the the coaches that he will be transferring. This is possibly the most important player on the team now. I will not be giving out his name until it is announced because anything can change.
At what point does someone at your school take notice. Losing Corboz was significant but a second transfer of this magnitude is a real red flag. If Donigan cannot get Romari Thompson his eligibility then he has a big hole at center back and no apparent GK to replace Grecyk. What looked like a serviceable squad will definitely have more questions then answers.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Yup. The OP, an avid DD hater from Day 1, has posted more misinformation than fact, over the past couple of years, so we'll see. I've heard nothing, to date, but plan on talking to DD soon.

I am not a fan of your coaches' style but have nothing against him personally.
I have been fair but critical.
Your program should be among the college elite.
Strong recruiting in close proximity, great facilities. huge soccer community ready to support the program.
In the past
I have posted that Rutgers would lose at least 1 play to academics in 2015, they lost two that year and not one.
I posted that some players were looking to transfer, Mael Corboz did.
I posted that the players did not like playing for him which was an opinion and one that I could never prove obviously
I have posted about his record which is all about the facts.
I hope that Donigan can change the new transfers mind and get him to stay. He is an exciting player to watch.

Opinions aside I think the OP has been more right than wrong. Donigan is very fortunate to still have this job. He would seem to be a very short leash and really needs to deliver next year.

I've asked before, but no one ever answers. I don't even no how to look it up for soccer. But is the incoming recruiting class any good? How about the one before that (current freshman)? If he is not recruiting well, its tough to defend him at this point. If he is recruiting well, then I could see this turning around.

This.

And this. He isn't recruiting well enough so a move should've been made.

I know the administration looks at MSOC as program that must compete nationally.

Based on my understanding, I was surprised Donigan wasn't relieved of his duties. He is fortunate to be coaching this program next season. I can't imagine having another year like this and being given the same opportunity.

I don't know how recruiting has been going exactly, but hopefully he has been killing it because that light at the end of the tunnel is pretty dim right now.

Let them go !. Must have high expectations of winning a national championship, doesn't always work out.. ask Corboz.. Leaving for Academics well that's another thing altogether. I am reaching but I'll guess and say Sa is gone. Probably going to Maryland or Georgetown.

Don't think it is Sa. He had major surgery last year. My guess is Wright. Hope whoever it is decides to stay.

I'm very surprised Hobbs didn't let Donigan go. His career record at RU is abysmal. There's been wild inconsistencies. He seems to have trouble handling his roster. He has issues now recruiting this area which has some of the best talent in the country. This program should be a beacon of light for our athletic dept. We won 1 game this year and I don't want to hear about excuses. That's ridiculous at a University like this one in a talent rich area. At this point we are just delaying the inevitable. And if there is one thing that this school should have learned by now is that nothing good comes from delaying what should be done right now.

Ok I will answer but sorry I never saw a previous request

! Top drawer soccer/ commitments in browser
Click the top drawer soccer title
On pull down menu clicks commitments
hen type in Rutgers
Then the choices are both ----- men and women together
or just men---- or just women It will list the next 4 years of committed players

2 Mens 2017 soccer commitment tracker ) ncaa based )
or womens as there are two sites
You will be given choices of 2016 2017 2018 2019 so select what you wish
The listings are alphabetical order not sorted by school. So just look at the far right column ( schools ) and look for Rutgers

But to answer the recruiting question more directly, while this year class will not be finalized for awhile, he has not established and maintained good relationships with the major programs in the area. Tends to recruit far and wide which is fine if its working for you but right not it does not appear to be. Agree with others that even if he has decent bounce back year I am not sure there is the depth in the program to sustain and thus we might be looking at delaying the inevitable. Would be interesting to hear Hobbs logic on this one.

Your assessment seems accurate. And in a perfect world we should replace him. But with Rutgers the issue of paying fair value for a coach , of a smaller program, is always called into question. So can we ever be sure the replacement is not a step back?
The problem , if we are waiting for a contract to expire, is that every year like last years may set you back two years.

Donigan will have some holes to fill if we are going to be successful next year.
Rutgers will be fine in midfield and up front. Ethan Decker is a major talent up front and will more then makeup for the transfer. Hacket Hawkins and Peterson give us plenty of speed and ability to go forward. Perez and Sa can be an exciting combination in the middle but the ball has to go through them for both to be effective.
Guzmon is another impact guy and can play in the midfield or back but his position will ultimately be determined by the quality of the recruiting class coming in. Top Drawer Soccer lists verbals for RU from a defender from Georgia and a defender from Uruguay. Bryce Washington is a full time starting defender on a very good academy team but I could not find anything on the Uruguayan.
Donigan has a bunch of scholarships to work with so the success of next years team will be a reflection of his ability to bring in some quality defenders.

This post does suggests that the transfer is Wright. Not good.

If it is Wright we are in trouble next year no way to get around that. It is very obvious Hobbs is putting all the money into football and basketball but not the minor sports as he also retained the girls lacrosse coach whose record is nothing short of awful and she clearly should have been let go

The remark about the minor sports is so false it's not even funny. RU has to take it one sport at a time when it comes to our programs. Football and basketball were in such a big hole, Hobbs had no other choice. Hobbs and the rest of the administration are investing in wrestling and men's lacrosse as well from what I've heard. We have a great foundation and recruiting pool, so it's important to invest in them.

To be clear, right now unless football and basketball make money before B1G payouts start, other programs will be a bit tight. No major donors hurt. As for Donnigan, the lack of strong relationships in a strong soccer area will long term negatively affect program. While probably too late to part now, next year he has to deliver on field and on LOI day, else Rutgers should cut losses. Overall he has been a disappointment.

Too bad it hasn't gone well with Donnigan. He has a good background. Played at UConn & coached the Saint Louis University Billikens for several years. The Billikens had arguably the greatest sports dynasty ever. Once posted their NCAA Soccer run. For anyone interested, will try to do so again.

That soccer/lacrosse training facility can't come soon enough. Should be a tremendous recruiting tool.

I speculated in an earlier post that Wright was more than likely the guy in question. My grandson is a very close friend of one of the guys on the team who told him that Wright is looking to transfer. Destination was mentioned, but I'd rather not divulge at this time.

But very typical for that poster. Perhaps he'll write another letter to the editor of a local paper completely trashing Rutgers Athletics.

Thanks, I didn't know he was an anti RU type of person. That explains the why his post made no sense

Losing Wright is a big loss. Hobbs made a huge mistake not moving on or ignoring men's soccer. Next year's results are meaningless because DD isn't recruiting well & has little depth or elite recruits to sustain success.

Wait, has he announced that he is transferring? You typed that like it has happened already

That's the kicker right there: let's not write the eulogy until the body's lying on the slab. There have been several rumored football transfers which would cause a huge uproar if they occurred, but since they haven't been announced, and there's nothing new from the players, there's no point in posting them and getting endless angst and hand-wringing from other posters.

I heard about a transfer and it is not any of the guys mentioned here and I also heard the destination. I am not going to share his name since it has not been announced. If (I said if) Wright is leaving then the one I heard is not a surprise.

A thread from today stated Wright is transferring to Clemson & he isn't on our roster. DD should've been fired in October or November.

This program is just about dead. Hobbs has 12 months to get his short list together.

What does the recruiting class look like? Did we get anyone that can contribute? From what I'm told, the nj soccer circuit is very talented and we used to have good ties with at the HS and travel teams

Hobbs should have had his short list already!! Besides football and basketball he has done nothing to improve some of our other sports then are in desperate need of new coaches
