Any news on Souf and/or Bullock?

Technically, maybe Pikiell doesn’t have the inside scoop on Corey leaving or staying. In which case, we need to do the recruiting. Otherwise, what we pick up some random nobody? Recruit and then see where we are at. Maybe everyone stays.

Listen these guys know they are out of their element but do they sit on the bench and capture a Rutgers degree or transfer down to a lesser God to sit on a lesser bench?

if I was souf I'd do the honorable thing and "retire" and be a student assistant next year. I'm not kidding when I say this, I truly don't think he'd get a ton of run even at Kean or Montclair State.

What would his incentive be to do that? He would have to pay his own way

If its a “Medical retirement” retirement im pretty sure you keep your ship. Ash processed a few kids via medical retirement already

Diallo was moved to an academic scholarship last Fall and wasn't on the basketball team and he was a hundred times better than Souf. We wouldn't have had room for Doucoure otherwise. After the Fall semester, Diallo found another landing spot for basketball and transferred. Again, not sure who goes but there isn't a team in America that doesn't have attrition every single year.

Perhaps a GoFundMe account should be set up so these fine young lads can complete their studies while two precious scholarships become available.

Can Pike convert them to academic scholarships and drop them from team? Is that allowed?

A lot of folks have stepped over the line .
It's one thing to speculate who is transferring and what pieces come in.
To Target a student and say he must go is not only in bad taste it is not in the spirit of our university's ethos.

It's one thing if he leaves whether on his own or by some other force - but remember Souf is a student firtf.

I don't understand why MB is at his current weight. That weight has to come off in order for him to have a spot on the team next year, IMO.

Pike biffed on Souf, big time. That's his fault.

If Sanders doesn't go, I think Pike has to figure out how to clear room for 1 more spot.

I agree with this. Mensah and Bullock are non-producers using up two scholarships. It’s Pikiell’s job to figure this out. Wasted scholarships happen but we can’t have two of them.

I understand the Bullock scholarship to some extent to have a connection to RC. I don’t think anyone could have predicted that he wouldn’t be committed enough to get/stay in shape.

However, the Mensah signing was a real head-scratcher. Not sure how this staff couldn’t have seen that he wouldn’t cut it at this level. His JUCO stats were awful too.

Or you can stop being so sensitive and really the dude is not a D-1 player, obviously you cant pull souf's ship (Bullock maybe bc he hasnt gotten in shape in 2 years) and is there really a difference between saying "run him out of town" and "help him make the best decision for him" you are just saying it in a politically correct way
No I am not being politically correct. I am saying you do it the RIGHT way. If after all discussions are over and kid want to stay you don't push him out the door. You treat him as one of the players and coach him up to the best of the coaches ability and the best of the players[.

Logically Souf is probably not going anywhere, he has 1 year left & is on scholly so earning a degree on a power 5 team is probably the best interest for him overall. By all accounts yes maybe not much in game contributor as some may have hoped, but from what we have heard he pushes people in practice, is a good teammate & works hard on the defensive end. I just dont see Pike as the kind of guy to push anyone out.

Matt has to decide if he wants to try and improve himself here & earn his way into the rotation or if transferring down to a mid major or smaller conference where he would earn more playing time is worth it for him. I do think he would do fine down in a lower league. All about what he feels comfortable with.

Shaq is not going anywhere, we have a redshirt & a JUCO coming in with only Douc & Eugene up front yet & Douc is still raw. Pike loves Shaq's defense and effort & I think we saw his value at several times throughout the conference schedule. He should be back & is valuable to this team's philosophy of defense.

You just sound so soft, like someone who's kid isn't going to be a star athlete. At this level of athletics things are way more cut throat, this isn't middle school rec league where everyone gets a fair shake.

We have the softest fans here, and you wonder why we are 27 years without getting to the tourney. Because people are too worried about hurting guys feelings. No one says kick him out of school, just take him off the team. If he wants a Rutgers degree then let him get it along with the other 40,000 students not good enough to play basketball for Rutgers.

Bullock is a joke. Unless he has a medical issue he should be kicked off the team for being fat and out of shape. Two years in the program and his physical condition is an insult to the program.

maybe they can get him to "retire" due to weight issues - a disability type situation. keep his academic scholarship and become a manager or something. something like this.

And you sound like a guy who doesn't know if there is air or feathers in the ball.

Here's a heads up------get the rep as a Program that runs guys off and a difficult sell to come to RU becomes that much more difficult.

How do you know? Have you played at this level to make a statement like that?

There are posters here who claim to love Rutgers but spend most of their time knocking it at every chance.

Actually,

Lots of teams push kids out. Way it is at a lot of programs. D1 Sports are a big business. Unfortunately, Rutgers has run it's sports programs like a towns REC League playing daddy ball. Looks like we finally have the right AD and right basketball coach in place. Hopefully Pike can find good homes for these players and bring in some B1G talent with their schoolies.

This s not about my being soft or worrying about kids who may or may not make it in D! sports. It's about handling the kids in the right way which in turn means you are running your program the right way. My kid was cut from his HS baseball team and beaten out by someone who didn't have half the talent my kid had. I am not saying that as a pissed off father as 90% of the kids told the coach they thought my ikid should kid should have made the team. I sure as hell wouldn't want you coaching my kid with the attitude you have. Wonder how you would feel if it were your kid getting pushed out with no other recourse. Just don't agree with your philosophy7 on how to fix the roster.

Ahhh the typical my son is better than your son response. Thats beside the point, at some point we have to stop babying players and be real with them.

This isn't high school. What does high school athletics and your son have to do with B1G basketball with millions of dollars on the line for programs? This is the highest level of D1 athletics with scholarships worth over $100k. College sports is big business. Shoot, travel sports is big business. My oldest plays a year up on one of the top travel baseball teams in the state. He knows if he doesn't produce, he doesn't play. And if he hypothetically didn't play, he'd be looking for another travel team. Two of my friends played in the Big East and Europe and now coach in the Big East at programs that are typically highly ranked. One even won the National Championship. This type of stuff happens at their programs and at tons of other programs. If Rutgers wants to win, they need to upgrade their talent. Finding homes at lower level programs for players who aren't cutting it is part of the process.

And sincerely, I'm sorry about your son being cut. That sucks, especially if he deserved the roster spot.

THANK YOU!!!!!!! At least someone agrees with me that we can't just give out free handouts and be the nice guy every time!

A marquee program can force guys out. Most programs, including RU, cannot. If we sign a kid and then shove him out after a year because he wasn't good enough to play at the level we had hoped, it sends a message to other kids at that school, and the effect lasts for years. We don't want to have RU get a rep as a school which bails on recruits. If Souf is on track for his degree in 2019 and wants to stay--he stays. Not his fault that we overrated him.

Also, there is a rule which says you can't grab an extra roster spot by transferring a kid from an athletic scholarship to an academic one. Even if the kid would qualify if he or she was not playing a sport. If they allowed that, Duke would have a ton of redshirts and most of the others would be on academic scholarships.

Agreed----if they want to leave.

If they don't the HC will have to view his mistakes until their eligibility expires.

The difference between your son's participation on a travel team and this situation is that these guys are on a full scholarship.

This is for both you and Crown6 I can't say this any clearer. I have NO PROBLEM WITH WEEDING KIDS OUT my problem is both of you seem to be saying just take their schollie a and tell them services no longer needed.

Really - are you personally trying to run these guys out of town?

This decision is a personal decision.
honestly, if I'm being blunt, I hope they realize they're not cut out for big ten ball. I'm just typing what everyone is thinking
If there was a nice way of saying it, it would be said that way. As a hard core fan, I appreciate the kids who come to Rutgers but it’s time to round out this roster with guys who can help get us to a winning season and post season. Two mistakes were made and hopefully they work out on their own.

Yeah.... you’re going to need to call payroll on that. Also, we have some new people coming in. Yeah...We are going to move your desk again down to storage room B. If you can grab a flashlight and a can of raid, we have a little bit of an insect problem down here.

Here's my question to the complainers: Were you good enough to be in the same position as Souf or Bullock?

Without getting on my soap box here:

It is STUNNING the amount of shit given to Bullock and Souf on the boards without ANY retribution whatsoever. #cantmakethisshitup
