Any news on Souf and/or Bullock?

Souf and Bullock are 2 different stories. When you are given a scholarship to play basketball it is expected that you aren't overweight. 2 straight years Matt Bullock played 20 or so pounds overweight. fans should not be OK with this.

Without getting on my soap box here:

It is STUNNING the amount of shit given to Bullock and Souf on the boards without ANY retribution whatsoever. #cantmakethisshitup

Listen, I understand that I am not being the most fair person here.

LET ME BE CLEAR,

I have nothing against Souf Mensah the person, he is a lucky guy to have a free education to a world class academic institution.

I have everything against Souf Mensah the basketball player, he is getting that FREE education, because of his "Excellent Athletic Ability", he has done nothing to display athletic ability deserving of that Athletic scholarship. Every other student who gets a scholarship, academic or athletic has to earn it, he has not IMHO.

Was I talking to you?

NO! Souf could have went other places, but he picked Rutgers. that is on Pikiell and not souf.

Bullock has put himself way out of range of being in basketball shape.

Indirectly, yes

Bottom line: there are board regulations and a couple of them are not being incessantly negative, about same topic, while another - at least IIRC - is NOT consistently bashing individual student athletes REGARDLESS of whether or not they're on scholarship. You want to put them down for a bad game, or a bad year, fine, but you and a few others here really gotta knock of the nonsense. There are also different ways to go about things instead of starting asshat threads, as such, titled "Any News on Souf and Bullock."

Show some damn class, they're student-athletes, ya' know? The OP is typically a very good poster, we agree on a lot, but threads like this just make me shake my damn head that's all.

Fair enough, I see what you mean

He was roughly as productive as Souf/Bullock. 34 games as a freshman, 8 as a sophomore. 21% on three-pointers, 42% on two-pointers, 51% at the FT line, too many turnovers, etc.

Just to give some context to the timelime... players like this ARE already announcing their intent to transfer (more likely Pastner ran him off).

OTOH I would say mid-April is the latest we'd hear something. From that point on I'd expect anyone still here to remain here. Diallo announced he was leaving the team April 20 last year, and Gettys announced his intention to grad-transfer from UNC-W around the same date in 2016.

I once managed a group of 40 professionals and during review time we had 4 managers that were not meeting expectations. Co-incidently in every Sr. Manager group under me. I simply stated to all of them that if one of their members were poor performers then it reflected on their ability to get the most out of their team.

All 4 were give some frank feedback. Some from the senior managers and some from the managers themselves. All left on their own within 90 days.

The bottom line is if Pikell gives these guys honest feedback, they will do what is best for all and move on. Its human nature. However, remember that Bullock did not leave last year. Maybe that is because Pikell did not give him the feedback we think he should have given.

Also for anyone who thinks running guys off would blow back on the program, ask yourself when's the last time you heard the name Grant Gelon?

Archie Miller ran him off at Indiana, it got ugly and was a story for a few days, and then nobody cared. It really does happen everywhere and 99.9% of the time it's handled amicably by both sides.

Quite honestly Pikiell would be putting himself at a disadvantage by not doing the same things other coaches do (within the rules). Of course we still can and should respect Bullock and Mensah as student athletes and as people.

If Bullock got in shape he would be a decent role player, he has to realize he's holding himself back. I trust Pikiell to handle the roster with class and let everyone know where they stand.

When I started this thread all I was asking was whether or not anyone had a good reason to believe either or both guys were leaving. There were so manyost about transfers and recruits that I thought I had missed something. We have no ships available but many people are posting as if we have two or three spots available. I did not, repeat, did not want nor expect it to become a pissing match and a bashing of Souf and Bullock. They may not have lived up to expectations but they have played hard and gave their best given the circumstances. Anyway, is is getting out og hand so I will respectfully request the mods to either lock to take down the thread.

Manage up or manage out; I believe that’s the saying people are looking to be applied here.

Bullock would actually be a solid contributor if he lost like 30-40 lbs. He can shoot. He has a good motor and good bball IQ. He just can't move or jump right now.
He's now done with his sophomore year. He's gotten bigger(fatter) instead of the other way around. At this point it's safe to deduce that he's just here to ride the gravy train to a free education. RU is going to be stuck with this kid for the next two years.

We have the softest fans here, and you wonder why we are 27 years without getting to the tourney. Because people are too worried about hurting guys feelings. No one says kick him out of school, just take him off the team. If he wants a Rutgers degree then let him get it along with the other 40,000 students not good enough to play basketball for Rutgers.
Another anonymous internet tough guy flexing his muscles.

If I had one wish...it would be for this board to simply take a pause, and just wait before posting crap like this.

None of us has any control over what happens with the roster. I get the need to talk about things to a certain extent, but it's not a good look to have a 100 post thread essentially expressing the desire for some of our guys to pack up and leave with 2 months left in the semester.

Any roster attrition that happens won't be because of our help here at ScarletNation, that I promise you.

Just be a bit more tasteful if possible when addressing this issue. The kids are here until they aren't...please be respectful of that.
