APP Story on Ash Meeting

Also of note was this:

Anthony Campanile, a former Don Bosco High School offensive coordinator who was a position coach for the Flood regime, has been reassigned to an off-field job within the program. Campanile was at the meeting.

Some quotes:

“He definitely fits into New Jersey," Bernards coach Jon Simoneau said. "I think all of us coaches were excited to meet him. Just the way he talked to us today, he definitely knows how to build a program. A guy that won a national championship (at Ohio State) comes here and takes the lead. Everybody always gets excited about a new coach, but this was a bunch of guys just like me. I want to show up to their first weight room (session).”

"He wants to recruit players in New Jersey and he understands how good the players are and they’re going to try their best," Manalapan coach Ed Guerrieri said. "They’re also going to recruit kids from wherever they can to get the best players. More importantly, he said player development is going to be a big thing – character, player development, good kids, tough kids."

"He is maybe a breath of fresh air to jumpstart the program and get it headed in the right direction," Carteret coach Matt Yascko said. "He seemed to be received well by everybody. It was good a step in the right direction to get together early on and share his vision a little bit.”

"It seems like he is going to open his arms up to New Jersey coaches and that’s huge," Hanover Park coach Gerry Moore said. “Being here today for the first time and coming to speak to us when he probably has 1,000 things to worry about shows a lot. He’s making sure that we know we’re one of the main priorities for him."

“I’m very impressed with what he said: Communication, open-door policy, and who hasn’t said that?" Carty Sr. said. "But he is very knowledgeable, and coming from where he came from he knows what it takes. He did make a point of saying that, 'We haven’t hired anyone with New Jersey connections,' and he defended that point. You can win in California without being from California."

"He gave us the message we hoped to hear: He wants us to be involved," Carty Jr. said. "It wasn’t like he was giving lip-service to it. He had a plan for how to make it happen and said, 'We’ve thought about how this is going to work.' That’s what we all want. We all want Rutgers to win a lot of games, and in the first meeting it seemed like something he could follow through on.”

"Coach Ash knows what needs to be done, he understands the problems and they are not easy problems to fix," Milich said, "but he is detail-oriented and I understand he already has a detailed plan all the way to spring. He seems like a guy who knows what he wants. He didn't proclaim a whole lot, but he seems to be well thought out."
