Wrestling Aragona to transfer portal

Pretty much this.

His rise in the prospect rankings out of high school was pretty quick and he probably was a little overrated by that one year just to start. Then you take a quiet kid a beat him up for a year and it probably killed his mentality and confidence.

Hope he’s successful wherever he ends up. We’ll always have that match when he beat Lipari in TB-2 at Rider. Arganon!
Arganon!! Dang.. looking back if Jojo didn’t win this match lipari probably would have stayed… was always worried where Jojo’s headspace would be after he got roughed up by Nick Lee..

Hope jojo’s passion didn’t die down bc of his gf… if so he will regret that.. ur goals should come first but then again this is a tough tough sport.

I’m glad JoJo decided to move on if his heart isn’t in it anymore, hopefully this frees up scholarship money, and best wishes to JoJo.

If he marries this girl and has a family and is generally happy, I doubt he’ll regret it. He was a teenager when he signed onto Rutgers. Priorities change.

What's the odds Raimo will ever make the line-up?

I think we'll see him wrestle a lot. He'll be one of the better depth guys.

Don't forget Sammy has a year to redshirt if he ever wants to use it.

I can see him using a year to bulk up. Would be nice to see him or White at 149/57 and Kainard at 165. Oliveri at 141 and Peterson/Shawver/Raimo at 125/33

All I can say is JoJo was way down the depth chart at 149. I hope for his sake the CB passion for the sport returns as he is a nice young man

It’s a far cry from some posting here how he was looking good, almost there, don’t knock him he’s injured, not wrestling bc just got back concussion protocol …. Sounds like bullish!t or posters don’t know what their talking abt.

The girlfriend implied that he was beating people in the practice room and maybe not getting an opportunity?

He could have been all of those things and still have been unhappy. I don’t think entering the transfer portal proves any of those things wrong.

Sounds like the real issue is that he was buried on the bench which doesn’t match what was being said abt him

This must have been a semi toxic locker room situation. I'm glad that everyone is turning the page. I'm really pumped for our current roster.

If he was all those things he’d be battling for a spot not buried on depth chart.

Thank you to everyone for there comments and concerns. First thing I wanted to address is I’m entering the portal because I simply was not happy at rutgers and have felt this way for some time. Has nothing to do with anyone person. I simply wasn’t happy and wanted to get a fresh start somewhere else. Second off my girlfriend has nothing to do with this decision as well and for anyone wondering the reason I moved in with her is due to the fact my relationship with my father was very toxic. It was not an environment I wanted to be around. I want to just clear the air on that. So please leave her and any opinions that are not true you have to yourself. Thank you all for the good lucks. I appreciate them and everyone else thank you too. Just drives me to succeed more. Also the drive and fire is still there for Anyone wondering. Have a good night everyone!

He can be all of those things and still not be the best guy at the weight class. MVB is still like 3 or 4 years older and White is clearly no slouch.

Rutgers unique campus isn’t for everyone. It didn’t work out here, hopefully it does for whoever ends up landing him. Rivera was singing his praises last year in the practice room, Bill has said he’s a good kid. Can’t hold anything against him, time for both parties to turn the page.

If it was just mvb but per bill he’s buried at 49 so doesn’t add up can’t be both ways.
Any way maybe a change of scenery will be what jojo needs, wish him luck.

You're going to tell me that Sammy Alvarez's laser focused facial expressions are the same as Aragona's bewildered ones? My friend if you could justify the comparisons you're a better man than me. If not,you don't know the sport of wrestling.
To me, Sammy doesnt come across as laser focused. He wrestles very loose and casual. And guess what? It work really, really well for him. No knock on Sammy in the least bit. As far as Aragona, he was thrust into the limelight and probably prematurely. Because of that, and the gauntlet of wrestlers he faced in the B1G, he had a tough time. I'll leave it at that. And yes, I do know the sport. I know much more about the sport than you think. I know much more about wrestling than you know about getting special permission to take engineering level courses as a 30 year old, undergrad, non engineering major.

Jojo, props to you for addressing these issues. It's unorthodox and takes a big set for an athlete to address the keyboard warrior, know it alls on this site. It's unheard of and I commend you for sticking up to them, even though I'm surprised you responded (seems to be a genuine response from you). I was a fan the moment I watched you whip the snot out of Busiello at Beat the Streets. You showed moxie and passion which I longed to see from each and every Rutgers wrestler. May you find that fire and passion again if/when you move on to the next stop. I will be rooting for you.

Okay well obviously you're not very mature because you have to resort to cheap insults on Topix that we have already explained or not the truth. I think we can kind of bury that right now. You sound like one of those guys that would start dating his best friend's girlfriend right after they broke up. Be a man. Have a civil conversation and stick to the topic. Getting back to Jojo. I don't think his heart was ever into it. I think he felt obligated with all the hype. I just don't know why Rutgers, the coaching staff, and he dragged it on for so long and wasted all that money. Most importantly the coaching staff. They shouldn't given him a year to have to think about it.

Hey crackers. This is jojo, like I’ve stated before, the heart is still in it. Nothing was dragged on. There was covid last year with 4 matches. I got covid and missed two made weight for the Tri with Purdue and Minnesota, but my opponent got hurt. Then we went to big tens. Then this year I actually had a concussion and missed time. And only was back for 4 practices. I don’t understand how you cannot understand that I simply was not happy. And the talk about being way down in the depth chart. It was only me and MVB at 149. And I wasn’t able to wrestle off. I appreciate the concern but your opinion of there being no fire and my heart never being in it. Is dead wrong. I’m sorry. I will find a bee home and just prove that to ya! But have a great day!

Jojo, despite the thread above, we all wanted you to succeed and have future success. You were one of our biggest recruits and this is big news for the program and its fan base, on several levels that include the future moving forward. We all wish to have seen you wrestle for RU more!

Sorry about your relationship with your dad. That can be real tough to deal with.

Good luck to wherever you go and whatever you do.. Hopefully, you'll still wrestle. I know the demands from the sport can be harsh especially if you've got stuff going on in your personal life. But remember, life is short and you've got talent-- this may be your last chance to compete at the collegiate level.

The real world has different demands and frankly nobody cares what is going on in your personal life. The professional world is very cutthroat, so don't expect that facet of life to ever change, it'll only get worse.

Hopefully, you'll still be close to home. I know there's plenty of programs that will take you on. But even then you'll still have to work very hard. Though, if you've made it this far with working hard, what's a little more? You've got this!

As I said Jojo is a great kid and if he has not been happy for a long time for whatever reason that will affect his performance. That goes for any person in any phase of life. If an employee is not happy with his employer or his work environment, his performance will be affected. That is human nature. I hope JoJo lands somewhere which provides him the environment which allows him to perform at his optimum level. JoJo, make sure that where you end up fits all of the criteria you feel you need to be successful. I am rooting that you find that type of setting. God speed and I have confidence you are smart enough to make those evaluations.

Good luck to you and I hope that you find the right school to continue your athletic and, more importantly, your academic development. As us older guys understand, the college years fly by but you can set yourself to have a successful career and comfortable/happy life. Getting a scholarship to Rutgers wrestling is an outstanding accomplishment few can achieve. You have gifts. Use them wisely. Good luck!

He wasn’t there enough to dominate ....not sure why she said that ..if she actually said that but let’s face it after getting ripped here incessantly why would he wanna stay and deal with the added pressure some of you guys place on these kids ...it’s the pinnacle arena of this sport so tons of pressure already and hearing some of you so called experts and your Monday night quarterbacking of their efforts etc would turn anyone off ..these are all good kids who deal with practice , conditioning ,family, dynamics school on an everyday basis and it ain’t as easy as some of you seem to think ..whatever his issue is he has the right to do whatever makes him happy ...sorry it’s no longer gonna be here but good luck wherever he goes even if it no longer includes wrestling .

I remain disappointed but do understand that one has to be happy in a situation in order to reach one's potential. I had picked JoJo to come back and win the 149 spot; Leonard may recall. I appreciate JoJo speaking out here and find it refreshing to hear from one of the wrestlers. However, it could easily turn into a can of worms if the kids participated here regularly.

There is what has been said and what has not. Reading between the lines is tricky but can also be telling. JoJo said he could not wrestle-off (at the time of wrestle-offs?) but was he prohibited from wrestling off since being back? I think that is the best determination of ranking. With what the girlfriend said about winning in competition vs winning in the room is interesting, and now Harley1's (MVB's mom) comment about him not dominating in the practice room raises further questions. One does not need to dominate to win a position or even be allowed to try. White won the wrestle-off but is being redshirted. I value Bill's opinion and consider him a reliable source of information but I still believe there has been more to this. JoJo: please don't think you have to respond to my comments.

He wasn’t dominating in the room simply because he was not there ...he reiterated that in his own statement ...who knows why the girlfriend said what she said ....if she even said it at all ....why would kids wanna participate here on a regular basis with idiots like you who don’t have a clue who you’re even talking to ...

Been expecting you, Harley, and your name-calling. You're an easy prod.

I hope so young man. You've got a lot of talent. Like you I was a state champion, and found myself with some pressures to perform at Rutgers. Unfortunately you were very hyped, and that often tends to be the Jersey RU wrestling fans saying " we got another one". Meaning another Ashnault. The pressures are tough and everybody handled them differently. I can't speak for others but I do apologize if I have been kind of hard on you. It comes from a good place if you know what I mean. I think a lot of us got frustrated with the fact that you were such a highly touted recruit and you saw limited time on the mat. People forget that you have outside circumstances that take into account your focus and possibly pressures that you can't deal with as a Young Man. Anyway JoJo we all wish you would stay, and gave it a second chance, but if your heart's not into it and you feel like you need another home, then all my best to you young man, and good luck!

Jojo
If you still read this thread, over the past many years I have counseled and advised many RU student athletes on career choices at the request of ADs and coaches. Since you may not have family advisers to turn to, should you want a sounding board on future choices just email me at wngarbarini@verizon.net and I will give you my home and cell numbers for you to call.

Haha you're now the focus of Harley huh!? I actually think it's John Van brill. I'll put my money on it. Anything you say about Mike Van brill this one has a conniption fit. Or somebody super close to him.
It’s doesn’t have to be MVB ...you were the biggest loser who was relentless that day you challenged two parents to meet you in the parking lot while you were in your trailer in buttock USA...one was Jojo who you were so disrespectful towards ...you called the kid every name in the book that day ...you think kids and their parents don't see this stuff ...I told you that day that its a good thing you were pretending to be here because both those parents would have cleaned your clock because of the things you were saying about those two kids...you then were banned here and now back under a new name ...same guy just the same nobody you've always been ...I'm at every match ...come see me ...WNG knows who I am ...i am a big fan and I'll come to the defense of any kid you supposed wrestling know it alls choose to attack ...constructive criticism is one thing ...personal attacks about a kids effort or heart is just wrong considering most of us have no idea what it takes to wrestle at this level...enough said!
