As Rutgers punches bowl bid, Greg Schiano earns bonus: Here’s how much

I find it interesting schiano gets a flat 100k bonus for winning the bowl game . You would think the bigger the bowl , the more the bonus. . Winning the pinstink shouldn’t be the same as winning the citrus or the rose bowl

Schiano mighr be hoping for the Detroit bowl against a MAC team trigger another bonus !!

Shelby said in the game string he’s happy for Greg.
There’s nuance. $100k isn’t even 2% of his bloated 2024 salary. 80 or so teams make bowls. Shelby doesn’t care about the $100k. He’s troubled by another possible 3-6 or wow an amazing, unprecedented 4-5 conference record.

If the team goes 8-4 that would change Shelby’s view of the season. Exhibition bowl outcome doesn’t matter.

I don’t know what you meant in the game thread. The bottom line is that at minimum, the staff figured out a way to make a badly depleted team respectable. What we saw vs UCLA was unacceptable. we let an immobile QB break tackles. That shouldn’t happen even with a second team. We were a mess and there’s no denying that. But we’ve seemed to figure some things out and the staff deserves a lot of credit for that. Schiano’s explanation in this week’s presser made sense and he was smart enough to wait until we were turning things around to put it out there. He said the issue on D has been the constant not knowing who will be available and the preparation patching didn’t end up necessarily matching the band aids needed - or something to that effect. His D coaching has always been solid but we’ve also never had this unprecedented number of injuries to work through. If we split the next two it’s nothing spectacular but there’s still reason for optimism as the bright side of losing our best players for the season was that it happened early enough to preserve redshirts. If we get Mo and Bailey back, there’s something to build on for defense.

What Shelby meant was, on a personal level he’s got nothing against the guy. Was happy for him to get a satisfying win in a season in the fast lane to infamy even though Shelby doesn’t think he’s capable of lifting the program into B1G 2nd tier or even an 8 or 9 win season, ever.

It’s not as if Shelby changed his mind about the guy stealing salary based on beating a 4 win team.

Schiano seems to have inadvertently blamed himself for the putrid offense we saw most of the season by saying injuries forced him to get creative. No Greg, the idea is always to be creative. What good does sticking to a failing philosophy do with healthy players when the offense is terrible ? He prefers vanilla, even if rancid.

The offense has been fine in all but 2 games, one of which was played in a wind gust storm where the game final was 14-7. No team was scoring a lot that day.

Wisconsin was bad. Other than that, the offense has not been the problem. The defense during the 4 game losing stretch was horrendous.

He has not or will not play a ranked team all season and the combined record of the teams he has played is below 500. Wow Greg definitely out performing!

He’s not “outperforming”. He’s showing resilience despite having been dealt a very difficult hand with injuries on the defensive side. Offense too - but on defense we lost of heart and sole of the D. We get Mo and Bailey back next year provided they Don’t transfer so what this resilience does is puts a much brighter outlook on the season.

I loved the combined record comment. If he beats 3 teams with a record of 8-0, 1-7 and 2-6 and that’s bad?

Meh. That vanilla, failing, terrible, putrid coaching might have had us at 9-1 or 10-0 right now, had we not had an anomalously large number of season-ending injuries to our best players. On top of which, we had an unusual number of players either miss games due to injuries, or have to play hurt enough to impact their contribution.

And while that's obviously speculation, so is your contention that we wouldn't be 9-1 or 10-0 with Schiano's grind it out run-heavy conservative style of play, had we not had such an unusually high number of injuries this season.

So lets go back to Chris Ash. At least we are competitive in pretty much every game besides Wisky and will now bowl 2x in a row. How did it go from 2014 until he came back?

What's the answer to the OP title? I don't click NJ.com crap.

Greg Schiano, the head football coach at Rutgers University, agreed to a contract extension through 2030 with the following terms:
  • Salary: Schiano's salary will increase each year, from $6.25 million in 2024 to $7.75 million in 2029.
  • Incentives: Schiano will receive $100,000 for a non-college football playoff bowl appearance and another $100,000 for a non-college football playoff bowl win. He also has incentives tied to season tickets sold and the team's APR.

  • Contract length: The extension is for eight years and is worth $32 million.
Schiano's extension will make him the ninth-highest paid coach in the Big Ten, and just inside the top 25 nationally. He previously led Rutgers from 2001 to 2011, and returned to the program after the 2019 season.

Yes, Shelby does respond in such manner and he suggests you don't so carelessly and inaccurately throw 'mental disability' accusations around big boy. Got it ? And grow up. You be you. Shelby will be Shelby.

SOS from Shelby. What a surprise!

Endeavoring to score more rather than less (playing not to lose) is always the better strategy. In different words, Schiano admits to the latter until injuries forced him to the former. Philosophy failure straight from the horse's mouth.

Learn logic bud. Whether RU would have won or not isn't relevant. It's about philosophy. We don't know if Custer would have lived to fight another day if he had a different tactical philosophy. But we do know that the tactics he did employ were a disaster.

Well that’s a good story but his wins are VT 5-5 Wash 6-5, Maryland 4-6, oh and big bad Minn 6-4. He’s was gifted the easiest Big ten schedule ever. Definitely give him an extension!

SOS from Shelby.

Glad the team’s tailspin is over. At Rutgers, to steal a line from Mike Ditka about George Halas, “he throws nickels around like manhole covers”. That’s Rutgers in the Big Ten.

We can play this game! How’s Indiana doing? How’s Colorado doing? We can play what if with Ash but what if we fired Schiano deserved and we hired a competent coach? Works both ways

Oh what fun, another comedically ironic internet forum post.

No coach ever "tries to score less" except in a blowout win while avoiding running up the score. Every coach always does whatever they think gives them the best chance to win. And since they know their team orders of magnitude better than know-it-all fans like you, it's a much safer bet to trust their decision-making over the fan's.

Learn logic, he says, while posting a laughably illogical post. 😉

By all means, though, teach me how to think logically. 😂

You're like a posting enigma of hypocrisy. Unless of course you are the type who has nothing against people you claim are overt theives....which would then make you despicable.

So which is it..... hypocrite or despicable? Or maybe a third option..... perhaps you just continue to post trolling nonsense for the attention.

Good for Schiano. Hope he gets another.Like he said after losing 4 in a row-- take your shots now cause the team can take it and will prove you wrong . He did just that, to dumb, bandwagon nitwits.

Point you keep missing mensa man is that sure Schiano did what he thought was best, knowing his team best, like Custer did, but he was wrong and finally realized it. Only with Monangai out and being on the fast track to 4-8 did his philosophy change from futile to fruitful.

Playing not to lose is not the same thing as playing to win. Even you know that.

The philosophy contributed significantly to the 4 game losing streak. They had a better chance to win a game with a different philosophy.
