Ash got schooled

you can say that but Iowa also dumbly went for it on 4th down on the 5 yard line.

Take. The. Points.
Left 6 on the table. Then when we were driving late we needed to go for it on 4th down because we were down 7 instead of 1.

Losing by a single touchdown to a team that went 12-0 last season is now called getting schooled?

seriously....there were a few keys plays that cost RU the game. The fumble, the OPI in the red zone, the 4 plays on the goal line. and CL missed a wide open man in the red zone... Just one of those going RU's way the game is different. No coach is going to call a "perfect game" .

There's going to be a lot of complaining if we don't beat Ohio State badly. Sensitive fans might want to stay away from the board for a few days after the game.

Ash showed his lack of coaching Ash showed his lack of coaching ability once again. There were plenty of mistakes made by the coaching staff but the most glaring deficiency is play calling and the lack of a system to fit the talent that we have because these games have all been winnable

Terrible day for our rookie head coach. Questionable decisions and play calls . Burned all his timeouts by early in the 4th quarter. Hopefully he learns from this. Kinda expected with a first timer . Effort was there today

Yet if we would have scored when we had 1st and goal from the 3 yard line, to tie it up, and put us in a position to win the game, then Ferentz would have been schooled?

We failed to punch it in, but that is not the same as being schooled.

Yes, we should have won this game and it's a little bit of coaching and a little bit because of the players. However, the team does has some talent and many are just playing their first year and with more talent next year, we will be fine.

I guess you don't watch much football . Burning all your time outs by early in the 4th quarter is terrible coaching anyway you slice it.

You could argue that you burn a timeout not to get a penalty, but not the last one you have....... Maybe you just have to let the penalty happen...

I think Laviano got the snap off in the last second when Ash called timeout, which would have been unfortunate

I don't even mind the way PS put his OP but moose has escalated to one of the dumbest thing I have ever read on this board and that says a lot.
I agree that Ash was outcoached. So freaking what? This is his 4th game ever as HC and look at the other sideline and realize how good the other guy has been for a long time.
My take on the subject is that if an extra defender runs out onto the field, there is some fault on coaching. If O is in illegal formation, there is some fault on coaching. If you can't see how much better this team is getting week after week, that is on being a dumb fan.

My only complaint is the play calling from the goal line near the end of the first half. Odin is in no way, shape, or form ready to run it up the gut in that circumstance lol. Overall, I was proud of the way the game went yesterday. I say that knowing that Iowa is far from the team they were last year. I'm incredibly impressed by the improvements in the secondary, discipline and conditioning. The harsh reality is that RU has maybe one division 1 QB on their roster, and he is a true freshman.

Enjoy the ride guys. Next year we have Oden, Lewis, Mitchell, Melton, Taylor and Harris. It looks like good time will be around the corner soon enough. Are we really going to do this nitpicking song and dance for every game in Ash's first year?

"these GAMES"?? Washington? NOT. Howard and New Mexico? We WON. There has been EXACTLY 1 "winnable" game that we haven't won and, sorry, but the system isn't getting changed nor should it. [cheers]

This is an asinine post. Apparently Plum Street saw a different game than I witnessed. The defense was solid all afternoon, the offensive line was stout at the point of attack against a very solid Iowa defense, and the main difference was that Beatheard is better than Laviano and Patten's fumble. The Rutgers team was very disciplined and had very few penalties.

Hard not to laugh when you see someone justifying buring a second half time out to avoid a five yard penalty.

Before you start calling people names get your facts straight. I wanted Bobby Petrino when Schiano announced that he was leaving which was around 2012/2013. At that time Petrino was at Western Kentucky I believe, a place he would have left in a heart beat to come here. You're wrong about Ash and his coaching staff. This gig is nothing more than a learn as you go job. He will not be here in 3 years. We lost at home against a s$&t Iowa team who a week before got beat by NDS and people here think it's a moral victory.

How bout this: I don't give a sh2t. Ash is the coach now, and I support him. We're not getting Petrino or anyone else right now.

You, on the other hand, are a blowhard who's only interested in proving himself right.

Regarding timeouts, in the 2nd half, imo, it is worth taking a 5 yard penalty instead of using a timeout (unless in a 3rd and short situation). Don't remember each situation but good teams don't burn timeouts. It was like watching Flood all over again. Overall, a great effort and hopefully they can build on that.

AGREED. I'm not an x and o's guy and don't even remember what happened with that last TD series. However I was there and I know my cRUe was half livid because that fumble that led to the last Iowa TD was NOT a fumble but we didn't have the timeouts to go to the video. **AS my fRiends recalled we may have had to punt but Iowa would nOT have had the same field positon had RU punted the ball. Maybe they still score but maybe they don't it would still be 7-7. Not having Grant likely cost us another TD.

What were the costs in yardage of not taking those penaites? Was it worth fairly much giving up the winning touchdown/

Burned all his timeouts . You don't do that by early in the 4th quarter . We could have been up 3-0 at half instead of down 7-0

Iowa also didn't score from out 10 when they decided to go for it on 4th instead of kick a FG to get their first points.
