Ash Press Conference from Hale Center: 2:30pm

Absolutely love that one of the 1st things he talked about is that, at 6AM workout this morning, he can see/hear physical and mental differences in the kids already!

Intelligent & well spoken. What a breath of fresh air after more than a decade of pretty much gibberish.

Really, sounded like he stole some verbage from Schiano and Flood.

1.Not worried about the players who are not here, only the ones that are here.
2. Not worried about stars, how high they could jump, how fast they can run.
3. Have to be RU men that fit our culture

Sure changed his tune from his first conference where he said 'we need to get BETTER players'.

Dude had a month to recruit... how exactly was he going to get BETTER players his situation?

Schiano & Flood both slaughtered the English language. Terrible syntax, improper word usage, & incorrect grammar.

He had 2 months to recruit not one.
The same way that Sewercuse and Maryland got better players.

And if you look who was coaching at Cuse and MD you'd could easily argue both Shafer and Edsell were better pitchmen than Flood.

So the deck was easily stacked against Ash.

I have lost track, a few questions for you:
1. Do yo prefer that Flood was still coach?
2. If not, who was your preferred head coach?
3. At what point will you let the new coach and staff do their jobs in developing players and stop being so negative? Do we need to wait until the first couple of games?

Not flaming, just wondering. Have a nice day.

Mary is at 2.86/commit.
Sad is at 2.79/commit.
Rutgers is at 2.71/commit.

Let's not get too crazy here folks.

We went to one of those Rutgers kids camps a while back

Greg signed my sons picture "2023 committ"

Ugh.. I still wince. A coach should know how to spell commit

Maryland lost all of its 4-star recruits after the regime change but I get you, as usual, choose to ignore the facts.
I see 3 4 star recruits on Maryland's list. Did they land them after they lost the other 4-star recruits? If so, that's impressive.
Terrance Davis, picked Maryland over Michigan.
Tino Ellis picked Maryland over offers from Wisconsin, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and many others.
Richard Merritt picked Maryland over offers from UCLA, Auburn, Alabama, and a lot of others.

Maryland's season was a dumpster fire. Yes, they beat us in an ugly barn burner. What do you attribute 3 local 4 star recruits choosing Maryland over some serious competition?

I made a mistake there was looking at the wrong column. My bad. 2 of those commits, however, were already on-board. Mea Culpa.

Ehh. It happens. I'm on board, and will stay on board. But I have to admit, when I look over at the Maryland urinal, I get a wee bit of star envy. Maybe Under Armour helps their situation. Better luck next year for us on recruiting. I still think this staff is going to do great things with the players we have.

1. I would have given Flood 1 more year. Losing entire secondary and Hamilton hurt RU last year, also a first year QB.
2. Schiano, Rhule, Cristobol, Golden, Fleck, D Coordinator from Wiscosin.
3.Recruiting is the #1 job for a football staff. What I have seen so far indicates that recruiting will not improve but get worse. The new staff may develop the Flood recruits but I don't think they can develop these 0 star recruits that they got in the last 2 weeks. I do like the QB Odin.

shouldn't you have already started the "Fire Ash" thread?

RU now has a professional at the helm.
There will be marked improvement from the players that are already here.
You will not see blown assignments that were so numerous in the past.
Everything is going to change for the better.

Fair enough.
1. That MAY have been a reasonable position if not for all of the off the field issues, and it has now leaked out that things were pretty out of control behind the scenes. I was labeled a Floodie and I supported him nearly to the end. I have always said that I support the coach who the administration has hired and not yet fired. Flood needed to go.

2. Schiano, Rhule, Cristobal and Fleck were not coming here. I could go into each one, but I am 100% confident that they would not come here. Golden was damaged goods. I would have supported his hiring, but I can see why Hobbs went in a different direction. The Wisconsin DC would have been a solid choice, but to me, no better than Chris Ash. I give Chris Ash the nod over Aranda because he coached at two B1G teams and in the SEC. And while I never thought that much of Bret Bielema, I came away very impressed at how much Bielema gushed over Ash. And Meyer tried to retain him. That tells you something. We got a great coach. I can't understand why, as a fan (I presume you are a fan), you can't get on board. Coaching is a crap shoot. We could have hired Golden or Aranda, and they could have tanked. In fact, we saw Golden tank with outstanding recruiting classes. I think we got the best one for Rutgers.

3. I think you are trying to grade HC Ash and the staff based on 2-4 weeks worth of work (and please, don't whine about coaching the bowl game--that dog won't hunt--Ash was working 2 jobs while he was working on the bowl game). I was hoping we would have kept some of the guys who flippped, or landed a surprise 1 or 2 four star recruits. But I staunchly stood (and I still do) behind Flood's recruiting classes, as I am a firm believer that coaches like Dantonio, Alverez, Bielema, and other know how to develop players and coach them up. Are you going to jump onto your keyboard and hurl insults and have a melt down EVERY time things don't go the way you want them to? What fun is that? Do you really believe that Al Golden or Aranda would have propelled our recruiting class to a top 40 or top 30 class? Hell, after being a Rutgers fan for several years, you should be used to death by 1000 cuts.

I am looking forward to a fresh approach to strength training, conditioning, player development, DEFENSIVE SCHEMES THAT DON"T LOOK SILLY, and a new offense than gives us a fighting chance. So, why not get on board and come in for the big win, and support the team?

Well spoken - has a plan.

was interesting to me he didn't give info/background on each kid (gave a general update and opened it up to questions)

Are you freakin kidding me?

LOL…I stopped reading his post when I got the names Golden, Cristobal and Fleck….

Could you imagine Fleck and his Mickey Mouse staff trying to out game plan the likes of Meyer, Harbaugh, Dantonio.

Recruiting is important, but it doesn't matter a whole hell of a lot if you have "empty headsets" standing on the sidelines. Exhibit A - the head coach in Happy Valley.
