so our knowledgeable posters seem to think he’s not coming back. I know it has been brought up but does anyone have insight as to whether he will be granted ( or even desires) a medical redshirt. It’s been frustrating watching them fall short this season

You need to read more here.

What. Jesus. What’s with the attitude. I thought he was unlikely to return this season.

Sorry above 165 rounded up to 170. I love the kid. Take the rose colored glasses off. Have you been in the room. Maybe I have been.

I worry more about his mental state than the weight. Is he missing the action, and desperate to get his last chance at a title? Or is he moving on with his life? That's the more important question -- and one which probably only he knows the answer to.

I sense he'll be close to the mat under any of your scenarios. Young man has coach written all over him. $$$$

Yes he is unlikely to return and yes he wants to come back to wrestle and yes it is likely he gets a 6th year medical redshirt.
Clearly you know more about this than I do but, what I am hearing is that the 6th year is not a slam dunk whatsoever

I touched his stomach at the Hofstra match and it was like touching a rock. Weight was 157! From the horse’s mouth.

I am going to get bashed for this one, especially since I have seen a signature block that says "you're an ash fan or an ash hole"

He on multiple occasions has had some after the whistle antics that I think are just shady. When he then gets on twitter and brags about it as if its totally okay (he calls it mobbing. I call it the type of thing that gets your clock cleaned). That sequence actually made me withhold my donation to RU Wrestling this year.

Now compare him as a coach to Tony Ramos. When Ramos lost to Gillman, he was all class.

Ashnault as a coach? Not sure I would tell my kid he is a good role model, go learn from him.

Let the bashing begin!!

I am not going to bash your post. You are entitled to your opinion, and there is no question that Ashnault has an edge on him, for better or worse. That said, I don't think I've ever heard Ash be classless in victory or defeat. That is on the mat stuff you are talking about. Ramos has nothing to do with it.

I do question (and challenge) your decision to punish the program by not donating based on the comments of one wrestler. Goodale, Pollard and Leo are all absolute class acts. That is what counts as far as "the program" is concerned. Its a cheap excuse to not donate if you were otherwise inclined. The program desperately needs our help to move forward.

PS - the "Ash fan" signature is a reference to the football coach.

I appreciate the civility of your post and thank you for remembering we all root for the same R. No idea they meant Chris Ash hahahahaha

Was it wrong to punish the program? Hmm, you're right. Maybe I should have given that money to the Sam Cali foundation. Or SKWC (and not the official team donations). You're right about that. It wasn't the most helpful way to show my disapproval.

So I "know" Donny because we wrestled at Edge together 1000000 years ago. My only problem I ever had with him is he was so much better of a wrestler than I ever was and it gave high school me major insecurity lol.

I know a bunch of guys who wrestled for Goodale at Jackson and to a man they all swear by him. One of the guys needed something for his daughter and Coach helped out. I don't think I've ever seen anything public about it.

I don't know the other coaches.

Again, appreciate the civility in your post!

You do realize that that quote is in reference to Head Football Coach Chris Ash, don't you?

I did when someone pointed it out =)

Someone asked why I brought up Ramos, and its because they both have coaching aspirations. Both handle things very differently.

Insofar as "class".... I don't think its classy or tasteful to lose a match because you smacked someone in the head after the whistle (Midlands v Kevin Jack) and then keep up the after whistle antics and get on twitter to brag about it. I stand by that.

He hit Jack before the whistle, like 1 second so get your facts straight

Does that make it okay?

I didn't mind that, I thought it was boneheaded and figured he would learn from it. When he got on twitter to brag about it, that was kind of the moment where he lost my benefit of the doubt.

I'm the opposite. I like it more when our wrestlers do those things like Ash. That's NJ!

False, NJ is knowing if you do something like that to someone you'll catch one in the jaw and are willing to accept the consequences.

Doing it on a wrestling mat with officials everywhere is bush league and cowardly. Yes, I said it.

For the record, I thought that slap by AA was abonehead move and totally unnecessary. I also thought the ref should have let it go with 1 second left. I am no a twitter guy so I don’t know what he said. Thanks Husk. I have a very strong heterosexual career record!

I agree .no way AA is ever
gonna go any higher then 149

Assuming he gets the waiver, I hope he goes 149 next year. The lineup is much stronger with him there. Suriano, Aguilar/Firestone/Lipari, MVB, AA, JVB, Glasgow/Grello, Pagano, Gravina, Mulligan, Correnti will be a solid lineup.

With Zain and Sorensen set to graduate I'd say Ash has a good and better shot to be a national champ at 149 next year then 141. I say let the kid wrestle the weight he prefers. He will be a big contender either way
