He has a below average arm and, zero ability to read a defense and come off his first covered read
Do drops count as inaccurate throws?
this...its driving me crazy....the 3 plays before halftime were brutal...what the ****..just a waste
yet he is an upgrade over Gavin
and our receivers flat out suck...they drop the easiest passes...last week and this week
Many of the drops were because of throwing behind the receiver, but not all.
I know we all chuckled with the TD through 3 defenders "Haha. Better to be lucky than good. Ha ha...."

Think this is an over reaction. He's not a heisman candidate, but has done well when had time. OL has not given him that or a running game. But yes he has had two subpar weeks.
Not even close to good enough . Missed throws. Drops due to inaccuracy. Just bad like everyone else
8 drops is inexcusable (I counted) so even if just 6 were caught he goes from 12-32 to 18-32, which is at least respectable; however, he also threw some clunkers. Sadly, though, he was our best RB today. We couldn't block for shit and KM probably got the hardest 72 yards of his career. The O-line is just broken - did Felter's loss hurt that bad? And our D-line isn't doing much better or our LB's. We better get better and start playing better fast or even our bowl hopes will fade away; the unrealistic projections of 9-10 wins are basically gone - I'm still thinking my prediction of 7 wins is doable, but not as easy as it looked 2 weeks ago.

I don't like the dinky-dunky passing scheme - averaging 4.1 an attempt the last two games.
Imagine Bama, GA, LSU with stats like that.
I know there were drops but receivers look timid - like they know they will get popped right after a tight-quarters catch.
They reminded me of Buffalo Bills WRs vs 1990 Giants - great WRs that were tired of beatings.
As I say, Shedeur Sanders would look bad in RU's scheme

But the 3 drops bac referred to all hit the receivers. And they weren't the only ones.
There’s a reason Fleck had the “talk” with AK at the end of last season.
Felter, Toure, Beam the last two weeks, Powell. All massive losses. This is a HORRIBLE team without them.
Isn't that where the defensive player is likely to be if the receiver is in fact open ?
It wouldn't have mattered though as we were beaten up on both the offensve and defensive lines all day.
And our linebackers were pretty bad too. And our tight end can't block for chit.
Even with their loss, the defense wasn't terrible. The offense kept going 3 and out and putting Wisconsin's offense right back on the field.
He made way too many of them impossible or difficult to catch high and wide and behind..
No doubt several should have been caught but his passing lately has been poor.
I think the pass a few games back that bounced off the defenders shoulder pad and deflected into our guy for a TD.
Athan is not the problem. His receivers dropped 3 in a row on one possession. Was he all world today? Absolutely not. But the offensive staff has done a horrendous job of preparing and putting the offensive side of the ball in a position to succeed.

But Monangai had a great season last year with Wimsatt back there. I disagreed with many people this year that losing Wimsatt was a mistake. I said Wimsatt's runs were no better than any of our RBs.
But here we see AK with some decent short.. sometimes too short.. runs.. but he is not treated as the same threat Wimsatt was.. and there is no room for Monangai to run.
It is playcalling and formation problems now, right? The inaccuracy and drops hurt.. but we had them last year and Monagai still got his yardage. It is the same OC.. same head-scratching play calls and short routes... too short.. but defenses are run-blitzing and choking us to death this year.
Try Sheppard. Why not?
Disagree, the drops are on the receivers but AK made some bad passes. The swing pass to Brown on 3 and 4 I believe would have been a first down and was a easy throw he missed it badly. Many throws were not accurate.
He needs to be better when he has time.

Well his handoffs stink too. Running KM into the tackler because he never keeps and rolls.
Sorry. Now I'm just piling on. I'll flag myself. Not his fault. Every RU QB has been coached to do that even GW who was a runner.
It’s been 10 years since there’s been a decent QB here. Way too long.
I remember when AK was signed and people highlighted the fact that his completion percentage was about the same as GW. But everyone pointed to the ……. drops to help his cause. Here we are again. People also discounted all of GW TD because KM would convert them anyway. People are finding out that it’s not that simple.
On many of his throws, even when he has a split second to set himself, he seems to throw slightly off balance. In particular his throws over the middle he appears to be leaning a bit more on his right foot.
He often rushes the throw, throws it too hard (no touch on the ball), throws behind his receivers, over their heads or too far out of bounds for his receivers to make a play on it.
His leg injury/brace is likely affecting his balance/ability to set properly, and therefore his throwing accuracy, imo.

hate to pile it on, but AK wasn't very good last week either.
There were some that were athans fault. Not saying he does not need improvement. But many of his issue are due to awful scheme and play call. The throw you mention 100% Athans fault. The three I mention 100% on the receiver.
You can’t force a QB to make throws when it’s convenient for the play caller. You have to make calls as a play caller to accentuate what your players are proficient. Let the run set up pass. Play actions true RPO. Attack the middle of the field with shallow crossing routes especially when the D is falling off in zone because they are selling out against the run.

They are only receivers when they not only get the ball into their hands but also Hold on to it..
Sheppard gets in for garbage time late and simply hands off. No passes.

Going back to the Howard..AK stares down One receiver only.
That's the maddening part. On like the 1st RU play from scrimmage, Athan kept it and ran for 9. In the back of my mind I thought "A-ha! The coaches saw what we all saw and told AK to keep a few for himself!". Then all game long we watched Kyle take the handoff 5 yards off the LOS, and run into a gaggle of white shirts.
