Thoughts?

My thought is in many games the stats are meaningless and hard to judge because of the wide variety of competition. RU, Wisky, and Minnesota are the only ones who played a P5 school.

Barrett threw a really bad pick 6 his 2nd or 3rd throw of the day. That Meyer is so stubborn he kept him in.

Just FYI, JTs long pass was not 18 yards, nor was his rating 86.

It definitely said long pass of 18 when I first clicked in. And the link you provided has his rating at 219.

Laviano had the worst YPP in the conference on Saturday. A paltry 4.2 each time he stepped back to attempt a pass. Yikes!

Something must not have lined up with the long pass. I hear you on the QB rating. I took the rating from the box score of each game.
Stats are kind of hard to compare considering the level of competition for most of the B1G teams. One thing that leaps out was there were not many deep balls, and that stat can be misleading as it does not reflect yards after catch.
Barrett is the only QB who really lit it up yesterday. Tommy Armstrong had a nice run game for Nebraska with two running TDs.

My thoughts are..Laviano is NOT HORRIBLE,,he is adequate. His stats will be decent.
But he is NOT the STAR we need to take the Rutgers name on the rise. We all know that.

We played a 14th ranked team....thats a tall order for an opening game with a NEW coach & staff.
UW slapped us around in the 1st quarter & our guys were kinda shocked...then settled down a bit.
We DID defense the run pretty well.
But their SPEED killed us......possible the fastest recievers in the PAC conference.

Their linemen were also girthy and quick
I think our guys learned a LOT
I STILL think we will surprise a team or two in our conference...
just my thoughts

Laviano had some good stats last year and there were posters that knocked his stats.
His stats weren't good against Washington, but who really can say any of the other RU QBs would have done better.
I'm not thrilled about having CL the starter, but less than thrilled seeing none of the other QBs being able to wrestle he starting position away from him and I'm not going to pin my hopes on a QB transfer that was changed to a WR at TCU or a transfer from LSU that couldn't beat Chris out in the two years he had a chance after sitting out a year .
Gio might be a possibility, but he doesn't seem to have impressed the HC or OC enough to be put ahead of Laviano.
I'm also not going to whine about Ash not playing a true freshman at QB instead of Chris because other schools started true freshman.
Tylin is not them and Rutgers isn't those schools.
Let Oden gain weight and strength his redshirt ( hopefully) year and then fight for the starting position in his RS Freshman year.

If I decide to whine about QB play while Chris is the starter, it will be whining about the QBs behind Laviano that haven't shown enough to replace him.

It's definitely too early to take much from the stats. Especially if you're looking to compare team to team. Like you said, just too much variance in level of competition. All I know is that Barrett looked better than he or Cardale did for most of the 2015 season, so I'm feeling pretty good so far lol

You guys should have scored more points.
I know they only scored 10 points, but how did your defense look? Any shots of Schiano on sideline?

OSU Defense did not give up a TD. The TD came vs the offense on a pick-six.

Defense looked solid, but played very vanilla. There weren't many blitzes or stunts or anything fancy, just straightforward defense. The defense didn't give up a touchdown, and mostly held what should be a farily decent offense in check, so while there's definitely stuff to work on, it was a good start.

There was at least one shot of Schiano in the booth. They did talk about running more cover 1 with Schiano as well.

That's a good point and very true.

But if we wind up being blown out more times than not this season, I'd still like to see what someone else could do in game situations. There has got to be someone on the roster who can move the ball better. It's hard to believe Laviano is heads and shoulders above the rest -- and that's what he has to be if neither Floor nor Ash take the ball from him. If anybody was close - and Laviano strings game after game without leading RU to the endzone -- he's got to see what the other guy can do.

Agree: If CL is having bad game after bad game, no matter how better he was than the others in practice, one or more of the other QBs need to be given a shot.
Actually I expect to see Allen put in against Howard before half so Ash can see how he does and wouldn't be surprised if Gio and Rettig got look sees in 4th to find out how they handle RU's O in a game.
