Bac's NCAA Analysis and Pecking Order: 2/29

quick recap of last night...

Texas Tech is in after beating Kansas State

also projecting Colorado in even with the loss at Utah

SC won at Arky and is all but a lock, ditto for Providence after beating St Johns

USC lost to Oregon and Oregon State beat UCLA...I think they are very close to locks now and above the bubble fray

getting to the schools closer to the bubble.

Butler over Marquette keeping them above the last 4 in

Pitt suffered another loss, this time to Ga Tech. Pitt is on shaky ground and must win their first ACC game or they will be right on the bubble and vulnerable to a snub. Meanwhile Ga Tech kept their slim hopes alive but will need to make the ACC finals

Syracuse lost to FSU which hurts them so like Pitt need that first round ACC tourney game to be sure. FSU I suppose has slim hopes if they can reach that ACC finals

Michigan lost to Iowa and now is very vulnerable because they only have 3 top 10 wins...must win that first round Big 10 matchup without Levert and it could be a hot Northwestern..where is that Michigan fan who said they were a lock?

OSU is basically done now with the loss at Michigan State. Just not enough wins, I guess if they make the Big 10 finals and lose they can be considrered again

St Bonaventure won at St Louis and now remain in the last 4.

St Joes big ugly loss at Duquense, their 2nd and now fall to last 4 in

Gonzaga advances in WCC action

Wichita State loses to Northern Iowa in the MVC semis and now must wait and they dont have an impressive resume so might be sitting on last 4 out line right now

Florida beats Missouri to keep their murky hopes alive

Alabama suffered yet another loss, this time to Georgia and would appear finished totally perhaps even with a SEC final appearance

Ole Miss and Georgia both have very tiny prospects where maybe if they make the SEC finals they will be on the board considered.ditto for LSU who lost at Kentucky

GW won at Davidson to keep their longshot hopes alive

LAST 4 IN: CONNECTICUT, ST BONAVENTURE, ST JOSEPH'S, GONZAGA
LAST 4 OUT: WICHITA STATE, CINCINNATI, TULSA, FLORIDA

Cincy beats SMU which should help but then has a first round game against UConn. Winner takes all?
Houston still lurking and rising. Potential winner takes all with Tulsa?
Wichita State is really odd as still ranked very high in many metrics but some have them out.
Will commitee really keep Cuse and Gonzaga out? Pitt odd man out?

Great overview Bac. I love these analyses every year by you. BTW, in the initial analysis you had Princeton representing the Ivy. Didn't Yale just win the conference and will be in their first NCAA tournament since 1962?

I believe GWU lost to Davidson

Bac - you should your name to "Bac - etology".......:)

haha good one Phil. I like it

so today Cincy got a huge win over SMU. I think for right now it vaults them back in the field while knocking Gonzaga out.

UConn moved out of the last 4 in spot with a win over UCF, which bounced Michigan into the last 4 line.

Temple didnt slip up vs Tulane to wrap up the top seed in the AAC tourney but their resume is shaky and landing on the last 2 in/last 2 out line but for now are projected as the autobid winner in the AAC.

Northern Iowa punched a ticket to the dance with their win over Evansville in the Missouri Valley conference final.

Full pecking order update and bubble breakdown coming probably tomorrow night

doing some serious numbers crunching and shifting...finding a very tight gradient in the last 9 in to last 3 out spots

will post later this afternoon or tonight
