BAC'S UPDATED NCAA TOURNEY OUTLOOK WITH PECKING ORDER 3/3

Murray St IMO should get in------undefeated at 16-0 in conference play and a 25 game winning streak.

I know the league is a mid major but they have won NCAA games recently. Ranked 25 in last weeks AP Poll.

Put them in the Play In round-----that's what it's there for.

but they have no top 50 wins, that's the problem. Their best win is what Illinois State? Just 1-2 vs top 100 rpi and losses to bad schools like Portland and Houston. Perhaps if they were 27-3 with no bad losses you can give them a pass. How can you justify putting a team that has played no one in even with the gaudy record over a school like BYU who beat Gonzaga or Texas who schedule strong and has beaten 4 top 50 schools. Murray State needs a quality win to justify their inclusion and they just do not have one. I would rather have a school like Old Dominion who despite a murky 13-5 CUSA mark actually went out and scheduled strong and beat schools like LSU, VCU, and Richmond

Because those leagues struggle to games. They beat Eastern Kentucky twice------Eastern Kentucky beat Miami by 30.

I don't care what league you're in winning 25 in a row is impressive.

They were ranked in Top 25 last week------somebody thinks they're pretty good.

BYU should certainly be in-----I would put Murray in ahead of Texas A&M who loses to Fla and at home to Bama last week. Ditto Ok State and Texas who underachieve and only play a bunch of Top 50 games because they're in a league which is stocked with them.

I don't want to watch teams play in the tourney who can't go .500 in their league unless they win the conference tournament.

but put Texas and OSU in the Ohio Valley and they will have the same record. Murray St failed to beat anyone that is going to the tournament. Its hard to justify that and they did have some bad losses thrown in there

I don't like Texas A&M in their either since they are riding only two wins over LSU. Im not a fan of Temple either who is just riding that win over Kansas and a win over Cincy and nothing else.

There is nothing to resent there. Murray State as an at-large is preposterous.

Someone in our office said "They have to take them both now, don't they?" when Belmont won that game. So of course I went right to a couple of sites with the numbers. No way, no how.

Just as good as Louisville? Murray State has played THREE top-100 teams, according to realtimerpi.com. Three. They beat Illinois State and lost by 27 to Xavier and by 35 to Valparaiso. The other losses? Houston and Drake.

Just as good as Louisville?

Those were early in the season----like I said they've won 25 in a row.

So Purdue is allowed to get better as the season goes on but Murray St isn't ?

Indiana has lost 8 of their last 12----2 of those wins against Rutgers. They lost at home to Eastern Washington.

They should be in ?

No one heard of VCU in 2011-----they got to the Play in Round and next thing you know they were in the Final 4. They didn't win their conference tournament.

Iona didn't win the MAC Tourney in 2012 and they got in--------there's precedent is my point.

The beauty of the tournament is a few lesser known schools getting a shot at playing the big boys.

I watch alot of hoops----they are IMO one of the 68 best clubs and I hope they get a shot.

On the other hand, Murray State did go 25-0. Indiana going 4-8 and Oklahoma State going 5-7 to finish the year just leaves a really bad taste...

If schools like Murray can't get games with schools like IU how can you compare the 2 ?

IU has won 4 of their last 12 and 2 of them are against RU. Why should they be a lock to get in ?

This is not supposed to be a Power 5 conference tournament.

OVC has an excellent track record in the tournament-----Morehead took out Louisville 3 years ago----Murray beat Colorado St 2 years ago. It's not a bad league.

Murray beat Evansville who beat Northern Iowa

Beat Illinois St who beat Wichita

Won at Western Kentucky who beat Ole Miss in Oxford.

Beat Eastern Kentucky twice who slaughtered Miami at Miami .

Were ranked 25th in 2 Polls last week------and now they're out because of a throw at the buzzer that goes in. ?

Can't tell me there are 68 teams better than them.

BAC, how confident are you that UCLA gets in? None of the "expert" bracket guys (Palm, Lunardi, Mandell) have them in.
My sister is a Bruin alum, so they become my team to keep me interested in the tournament.

first of all the tournament is never about the best 68...that's why Belmont and other lesser that didnt win their regular season titles but won the conference tournaments are in. Murray State had a chance to beat top schools

They lost to Xavier by 27
They lost to Valpo the Horizon champ by 35
They lost to a horrible Houston bottom feeder in the AAC
They lost to medicore Portland

bringing up bad schools like Eastern Kentucky and Western Kentucky mean little..who cares who they beat...Rutgers beat Wisconsin, that means nothing.

SOS is 256..non conference is 233...you say that they cant schedule..thats baloney, they can schedule top teams if they chose, other mid and low majors do it.

top 25 does not matter, its not a criteria, nor is how you are finishing the season...its body of work

if anything you should be pleading Old Dominion's case because they actually schedule strong and beat quality opponents unlike Murray State

two games to judge them against quality competition and they were housed.

21 wins against plus 150 rpi schools

Hinson....have not updated yet but I have a feeling they will out this time. The problem is that they not only get a bye in the Pac 12 tourney but their first game in the quarters is going to be either ASU or USC which does not help them. They are simply going to have to beat Arizona to get an at large bid. If they do that and make the finals I think they are more than likely in

They are just 4-9 vs top 100 and only have wins over Utah and Oregon to point to. Pac 10 looking more and more like 3 bids..not a good conference this year and its been down for a while

Bac

We'll just have to agree to disagree on this-------to me 18-0 in your league has to count for alot-----as does 25 in a row.

If it doesn't mean anything you're encouraging people not to go or watch.

That's bad for the game. As are teams who can't go .500 in their league being locks to get in.

One of the guys made a very fair point on ODU-----they should be in also. Certainly over the likes of IU , Illinois , OK St , Texas , Xavier and UCLA.

If UCLA does not get in: no Florida, UCONN,Syracuse or Michigan.

Murray State lost to THREE plus 100 schools...they were annhilated against Xavier and Valpo...they were beaten by horrific #247 Houston...find me a power 5 school going to the tournament that has a losses like that...when you lose to the likes of Houston, Portland, Belmont and were bitchslapped by the two best schools you played sorry you have no leg to stand on....this isnt a charity tournament...if they wanted to go they should have beaten a very mediocre Belmont

All early in the season------are they not allowed to get better ?

But Purdue is right ? They lost to Gardner-Webb and North Florida at home.

IU loses 9 of their last 13-----3 in a row at home-----2 of those wins against RU . They should be in ?

Sorry not a fan of the philosophy that " I'm better than you because I play with him ".

Like I said 25 in a row and an unbeaten in conference record in a pretty good mid major league IMO warrants a bid in a field of 68 over the likes of teams that can't even finish .500 in their leagues.

You disagree-----that's fine. Why don't we just stop boring the members with this discussion.
