I'm gonna bet he's not supposed to mention it.....because if people know that ground has been broken, they might be less likely to give......but there's also the value of letting boosters see tangible progress that proves you're in a new era.

Barchi may have bumped his head..from a Dunleavy article today quoting Barchi:

The irony to Barchi’s comments is that they were made in the Rutgers Athletics Center, the rundown facilitythat sparked the multiyear conversation about the need for an upgrade to Big Ten-caliber.

The school’s Board of Governors approved in June a plan that includes as top priority a new multipurpose facility next to the RAC that doubles as a basketball practice arena.Rutgers athletics launched a $100 million fundraising campaignin January.

“That’s on the fast track,” Barchi said. “We have our tax credits from the state. They have an expiration time on them. We’re going to get this puppy done before then.:sunglasses::sunglasses::smiley::bomb:

My feeling is coach probably stole Hobbs thunder. Weren't they suppose to have some sort of announcement or update in a month? But oh well. It's happening.

How quickly can a parking deck/facilities be built. Summer/Fall 2017? It's mostly a series of open spaces.

Heard Coach Pikiells interview on Sportszone tonight. He straight up mentioned they are breaking ground this summer. Not sure if he was suppose to mention it but there it is. Happy to hear this.

Waiting on Hobbs for the announcement

Hobbs knows the head coach will need to be the star. Recruits come to play for the coach, not AD. Good call to have Pickiell lead here.

I was listening to the Pikiell interview with Pete McCarthy on WOR as well, and indeed, Pikiell said groundbreaking will occur this summer. I started dancing around my kitchen when I heard it.

Woke up this morning and came back to this thread hoping it wasn't a joke or a dream.

This is huuuuuge news!

I must be so jaded about this program because I am still in the "believe it when I see it" mode.
I'm generally with that line of thinking most of the time but it's been coming from a few places including some that usually aren't so openly optimistic so it makes me think at the very least something will be announced and some sort of structure is going to be built. I don't know if this summer is it, could be, but I'd think some time in the next year. The full 100M athletic plan may not be enacted but I think some initial phase of it might and that would likely be in regards to basketball.

So normally I'm a feet on the ground type of person but the clean sweep of Flood/JH and now EJ tells me there's a new line of thinking emanating from the top, Barchi and the BOG. So that new line of thinking from the top in combination with the tidbits from various sources here makes me think at the very least some initial phase of the plan will be enacted.

You 100% sure ground-breaking means beginning of construction phase, or is it planting some fall mums that'll spruce up the space until eventual construction?

Excellent!! Now dont shoot me but not crazy about the white/beige bricks. Dorms above the diner already look faded.

I wrote out my first check of a 5 year plan last night. It was mailed this morning. Hopefully many others who can afford to donate and have not yet donated will pledge soon. I have said for quite some time that we need one of those thermometers on the outside of the RAC showing how we are getting closer to our goal of $100 million. I feel this would get more people involved in contributing.
