Ben Black

That's a ridiculous nitpick. It was thrown in stride and an easy catch if the WR simply turns his body slightly. The drop is 100% on Black.
Refuting your posit that it was perfectly thrown. It wasn’t. Again, underthrown and wr had to reach over his head instead of in front of him and he could not catch it in stride. But it is true he should have caught the ball.

This is 100% true. If Athan threw it over his back shoulder where it's a tougher catch, then I can be more forgiving. A receiver in this case just needs to turn and maybe slow up by a 1/4 stride so the ball is perfectly in front of him. It was an NFL level throw.

No, not in stride. The pass was not out in front of him.

Huh?

Pass hit WR in the helmet and pads - announcer even said so.
Could have been caught better maybe but there was no "drop."

A more seasoned receiver adjusts their body to catch that ball with their hands. He just assumed he could catch it over his shoulder and walk into the end zone. That was a freshman mistake if you ever saw one.

You're almost as far off as abc here. Was not underthrown at all and was an easy catch, in stride with just a minor body turn.

Probably.
However I am often shocked how ill fitting RU player's helmets are

In this gif fron Neb game you see how hard he is bending-up to see the ball

Look at pics of Black in his helmet and the pads are over his eyebrows.
Its sits lower than earlier pics from HS.
His cage is also full of oversized bars right in his side field of vision.
Black's helmet is a handicap and he's not unique on RU team

It was a rookie mistake. An incomplete pass. In the video you can see that he is looking at the incoming ball, but he didn't adjust his body to catch it with his hands. He tried catching it close and the ball bounced off his hard shell.

OK Mr. USC of the east. You're such a homer. I got 52 years invested here and I regret that I will not to live to see you come around 1 day to realty.
BTW..what's today's excuse on that kick? Wind, Crowd noise, jock too tight, upright too thick?

I appreciate your support for this but I have WAY too many years of this BS... carry on. You're a great fan.
The heat definitely made the upright more swole.😂

Dude it's not the helmets fault or Kaliakmanis' fault. He made a bad play, completely misjudged a good pass. Any ball that hits you on the helmet and you're wide open is your fault.

The RU picture is not Ben Black, those helmets are from the Flood years. Trying showing everyone a pic that is actually Black wearing his actual RU helmet....lol.

I'm going to be nice here and point out that they are using a stock photo in that story unless you can explain why RU would release a photo of a commit in a helmet that is long gone...lol.

Another thing I'll point out is that image is from a game and they wouldn't have a new commit in that type of image.

It shows yet another RU player with ill-fitting helmet.
Black is still wearing similar cage
RU needs to talk to equipment managers

It didn't seem like a drop as much as pass came down near shoulder pads and an ugly ball to catch.
True but had time to slow down and adjust. Kid looks real good though. Let’s beat Wisc and worry about UCLA afterwards. One game at a time. We can win or lose every game so why would we look ahead??? Enjoy every week. All tough games

You have no idea what ill fitting helmet is. You're just trying to salvage your pride at this point.

No - I still know what a drop is and my pride has nothing to do with it.
I played ball in HS and college and know exactly what an ill fitting helmet is.
I also know Black was contorting himself to see a pass he caught - and surprised by one that hit him behind

Imagine Aaron playing in a stance with a helmet like this

Why does Patrick Mahomes' helmet sit so high on his head?

"Apparently, there's a two-pronged reason as to why Mahomes's helmet rests a little taller than those of other players on the field: The first has to do with visibility...Mahomes has previously complained about his helmet dropping down over his eyeline, making it difficult for him to get a full view of the field and obstructing his vision. To counteract this, he began putting his helmet higher up on his head, which soon became a fix that he became accustomed to. "

It is a definite drop and primarily Black’s fault but the pass could have been better.
Dumb take. Arguing that a pass 40 yards downfield could have been 6 inches one way or the other is asinine. Adjust and make the catch. That's why you're on scholarship. AK was not great today but that ball was right where it needed to be. I bet if you asked Black he'd say the same.

It’s now clear that you have been wearing tight-fitting hats for years and that it has resulted in a rare syndrome called chowder-head hat syndrome. One of its classic symptoms is a self-protective urge to blame hats for people’s significant problems. Remember that time you blamed Stephen Hawking’s ALS on his hat?

You have no effing clue what you're talking about. There's not a coach or WR in the world who says that isn't 100% on the WR.
Once you accept he loves Gavin and misses him, and hates Greg's offense and Athan, it's easier to laugh at his posts and not argue. Pure confirmation bias. He also fails to account for throwing into the 20-35 mph wind. Nearly lost my RU cap a couple of times walking down the ramps at memorial stadium yesterday.

I see freshman wrs making plays all over the place. That was brutal to watch. I'm not sure I've seen a more awkward drop this year.
Kid is a true frosh who made a couple of critical catches (over the shoulder for 43 yds and kept eye on tipped ball for td) along with an open field drop.

Gets a pass from me. Black was constantly open and dbs were on their heels defending him. Proud of him for not getting down on himself and continuing to chop.

More Ben Black please. Kid has a bright future.

GO RU

Shelby agrees, but you missed the point has been making. If you’d been paying attention you’d have noted Shelby was only discrediting #s claim that it was a perfect pass. It wasn’t. Most passes aren’t. But it was certainly good enough that a D1 receiver all alone should have caught it.

‘Could have been better’ wasn’t a criticism, but was the truth that it was not perfect.

I don't miss Gavin and would have been happy about a real upgrade and coaches that know what they are doing
Nebraska game shows AK can make some better throws than GW while still throwing ducks.
AK had a Nebraska QBR of 19.3 which even GW never had.
He also had a completion % of 40.5.

The wind and missing OL don't explain it all because AK has shown to be erratic passer in other games.
He throws darts for 5 yds and longer balls can often sail.
I can see why Kirk likes him for his nickle and dime offense
Throw the ball 15 yards across the field to make 4 going up it.
RU has Minn's ditched QB and OC
I'm sure opposition DCs aren't losing sleep.
Maybe another year for "the mastery."

At the end of the day, we were 2 plays away from a win in a hostile environment and being 7.5 point dogs. The defense really stepped up in the second half to give us a real chance to win. IMO on the 2minute drill, we tried to go for home runs when we had plenty of time to do 10 yard chunks.
I would have liked a few 20 yard crossing passes instead of going deep

It's a drop, and Black would admit it.
I was listening to the Nebraska broadcast at the game, ND they said it was a drop.

Find another team to root for. It was not brutal. It's football on a windy day.

Can anyone explain to me why Dremel who caught 36 passes last year for 468 yards and 3 TDs isn't even out there when a possession guy would be so damn helpful? Talk about taking a proven tool and removing him from the options. WTF?!

CD can not really get off of the jam so he has to be in the slot. DM is much mor dangerous than CM is. Unfortunately CD is a product of us getting better in the WR room.

At this level, that ball needs to be caught.
It should be considered a drop, only to show in the stats, after the fact, that the incompletion was not the quarterbacks fault

If that happened 10 times during a game, it would appear as though the QB was terrible that day, when he was not

The same could be said of the WR
The pass was just an incompletion

They did a nice job of taking away our crossing routes with a match up zone look.
Could be
I mentioned that because it was that type of pass that worked well against our other opponents

When we start throwing deep, our chances of it working are not so good

They didn't "ditch" Kirk. We took him from them - for better or worse.

"The deal with Ciarrocca, who is currently the offensive coordinator at Minnesota, has not been completed and requires board approval, but it's expected to be finalized in the upcoming days. The commitment is expected to be significant, according to sources, as Ciarrocca was slated to average $950,000 over the next three years in Minneapolis after recently signing a new deal there."

He's grasping at straws now hoping to win a point yet failing even worse with every attempt. I mean we've gone from not a drop, to ill fitting helmets to castoff OC...lol.
