Big basketball tournament! In DC!

This must be a joke. The DC metro could be the worst transportation system in the country. Accidents, major delays, huge cost overruns and significant reductions in service are just some of the issues that have plagued the metro over the last few years. All that for a system built 70 years after the NYC subway and that doesn't even come close to running nearly as many hours as the NY/NJ Transit system does. The metro closes at midnight yet they can't even get their track mantainence taken care of during overnight hours. Do you even watch the news about all the problems metro has had?
None of this has anything to do with the fact that the D.C. Metro runs directly into the Verizon Center and is therefore very easy to use for THIS TOURNAMENT. Most fans don't analyze mass transit budget reports before taking a subway. The point is that the poster who said attendance would be low because of D.C. traffic is wrong. For all its problems, Metro still gives fans a solid mass transit option to the Verizon Center. Anyone who wants to go to these games can do so easily.

If you're talking about me I said attendance is expected to be awful for TODAY'S GAMES (tickets going for $7), as they were last year, not for "the tournament." Get your poopie straight buddy. Also, in regards to the rest of the point I was making, you do realize how many subway and train lines run INTO Penn Station, where MSG is, right? And how many people live within walking distance of MSG, right?

BTW - I'm guessing the crowds will be better today than they were for the NCSU/Wake and FSU/BC games in the ACC 1st round last year.

it will look empty has do all conference tournament involving bottom feeding schools no one cares about...just like the ACC had about 3K for their games in Brooklyn yesterday

Yes I know you already said that. [thumb2]

We're both RU fans, so I don't get why you're cursing me out, "buddy." There are plenty of people within walking distance of the Verizon Center too, by the way. The nation's capital is a big city the last time I checked.

Attended sessions 1&2 on Weds and session 1 on Thurs. Weds attendance was pretty weak because as stated prior lower ranked teams in 1st rounds just don't draw well. Thurs attendance was stronger. From TV Fri-Sun crowds got stronger everyday. From my perspective 1st rounds of these tourneys are free money for the schools, conference, channels, arenas and cities involved. Nothing else compelling going on. Attended RU Alum event at Bar Louie. Smallish crowd but great conversation with those that attended. I must say first time speaking with Patt Hobbs. Very impressed. He is the right person to bring it all together and connect the dots. Very excited about the future of RU athletics and his leadership.

GO RU
