The Big House and Happy Valley may hold more than 100,000 fans, but both historic college football venues got trampled in an informal survey on the toughest road environment awaiting Rutgers football.
Gannett New Jersey asked seven non-partial players at Big Ten media day whether it is more challenging to play at Michigan Stadium (a.k.a. The Big House), Penn State’s Beaver Stadium in the area known as Happy Valley, or Wisconsin’s Camp Randall Stadium. Rutgers will visit all three in 2015.

I'm admittedly biased but I've been to all three. Night games at Beaver Stadium win easily. The year I went to Wisconsin was the year they had Russell Wilson and they curb stomped us by the 4th quarter so that may have tamed the atmosphere some but I was expecting more from "Jump Around". It might have also been one of those things that are so built up in your head that the reality has no chance of meeting those expectations. Don't get me wrong, Wisconsin was awesome, but Jump Around, at least on that night, was decidedly underwhelming.

Michigan doesn't even deserve a mention. I'd bet HPSS is a tougher environment than the big house

The year the NCAA instituted overtime, a reporter asked Barry Alvarez whether he'd elect to take the ball or defend if he won the coin toss. Alvarez replied: "I'd elect to make them drive the ball past our student section. By overtime they'll be so loaded they'll scare the hell out of anyone."
