Charmin soft. He’s healthy. He can shoot.
But he’s slow and soft.

Crazy!

He was always a high usage guy that can fill it up in a mid-major environment. No coincidence that he scored more when Harper was out. It’s a failure of Pikiell to not see this.

This. A terrible fit. He doesn’t add value playing with Harper. There’s no point. Kick out 3s is not the way he collects his points. He’s not a catch and shoot complimentary player. He’s a high usage player who can hit 3s at a decent rate off the dribble when he’s running the offense of a major part of the flow.

The issue i have is we have 3 POINT guards

Dylan
Jwill
Jmike

And we have two guys in aciff and Derkack that really are point guards on offense because they can’t operate from the wing …and need to be coming off high ball screens on top .

We don’t have a real 2 guard on the team …and it’s really hurting us on BOTH ends

He wasn’t supposed to play with Harper all that much. He was suppose to be high usage bench when Harper is out. Martini was supposed to be the off ball spot up shooter with Ace, Harper the 5 and Williams for lockdown D.

JMike isn’t a 1. You’re only saying that because he’s short and can’t play any other position either.

Said this in March.
The roster roles needed around a high usage PG (Harper) are the exact opposite of what we have.
Our primary off-ball wings (JWill, Davis, Derkack) were all sub 25% 3pt shooters.

Even Acuff was only 32.7% coming into the year (a case was made Acuff would shoot better with less defensive focus).

Some were even saying JWill and Davis were NEEDED because they would be PG and running the offense.
We were going to take the ball out of Harper's hands most of the game?

This really all goes back to the underlying offensive system and philosophy of prioritizing isolation drives.

We were never going to get multiple 3pt shooters because we weren't looking for them. We had 1 spot for a shooter and that was it.
We needed guys "who could create their own shot".
Harper and the system should be creating their shots.
We don't need 5 guys creating their own shot on every play.

Definitely possibly the most damaging acquisition. Should’ve been looking for our Cam Spencer type acquisition and where Cam was amazing analytically Tyson was not and certainly has been a big issue for our roster construction.

Martini was the biggest portal bust. Was the only who was supposed to start, has the most experience and played at a higher level school than the others, and was anointed captain as soon as they made the recruiting photo op for him. Derkack a close second with all the horseshit NEC accolades.

No - Jordan has multiple years of eligibility. He was not brought in expected to contribute that much right away. Acuff was brought for that. Your wrong - we didn’t bring him here for one season to spell Dylan 7 mpg. He was meant to start with Dylan which was a bad fit.

Who, Jordan ? Disappointing as he is, he’s nowhere near as ineffective as Martini has been.

I think Acuff is the biggest bust from the portal. By far. I’m saying Jordan can’t even be classified a disappointment at all. He’s not a one year player and he transferred from one of the weakest conferences. Growing pains were to be expected. He’s played way more than I thought he would. When you bring in a guard for one year they’d better crack the main rotation otherwise they are a huge disappointment in my book.

Martini was supposed to be the 5th starter and a 3 pt sharpshooter. Acuff was slotted as a reserve, and on top of that had a broken foot. Lower expectations.

Reports pre-injury were that Acuff was one of the best players on the team. The injury really messed things up which was a huge blow for the team.

Acuff was not slotted as a reserve. I don’t know where you are getting that? He was supposed to be the 2 guard not the back up PG. That role was expected to go to Davis and it was assumed Simpson left because he didn’t want a back up role. Martini was brought in to be a glue guy. It was only expected that he would start after we failed to secure a top center. Arguably - the reason we didn’t get a back up utility guy could be because he played some 5 at Princeton, I’ll give you that. Perhaps, Lathan wouldn’t have been so bothered about bringing in a utility BIG if he didn’t already see Martini as that plus Ogbole.

Jordan is playing more than could’ve been reasonably expected. There’s no angle to say he’s a disappointment considering he’s a multi year recruit - not a a one year deal.

Disagree. I argued all off season Acuff should be the starting two, but the plan was JWill. Martini was here to be the starting 4 or 5, depending how the roster/preseason played out. Acuff’s injury really messed him up.
Agree on Derkack, not sure how he could be a disappointment, I'm not sure anyone had any idea what to expect from him. Stat/efficiency wise he seemed a JWill backup to me.

Acuff was slotted as the 6th man off the bench for his offense, there was never talk of him starting probably because he's not as good a defender as JWill.

Without picking on individuals, we can definitely all violently agree that this staff has been HORRENDOUS putting together rosters out of the portal.

Like Frankenstein body parts sticking out backwards type horrendous

So so disappointing...

A 6 man gets a lot of playing time. He was supposed to play a ton is really the point, J Will can play 2 or 3. There was never a good role for Acuff on this team.

Acuff was supposed to play a lot. Whether starter or 6 man is irrelevant - you don’t bring in a super senior with the prior usage numbers he had to come play a utility role with token playing time. I was responding to Shelby on refuting the notion that he was brought in just to back up Dylan. That is most certainly not true.

Whether his injury made him worse or not, well really never know for sure since he’s never played at this level before. At present time, he’s not good enough at defense, and he failed to demonstrate an ability to contribute productively in the offense alongside Dylan. The latter observation has nothing to do with his injury as he’s had games where he’s produced on offense, they’ve just come when he’s slotted back in to his MAC role as a ultra high usage player while Dylan was out.

True, but you get what you can afford. People want to pretend that money isn't an issue, but it is. Especially for us.

All of the transfers were over promised and all under delivered. None of them has been a quality addition or provided much except for a handful of good games for each one of them. There is really no need to single out any one of them, as they were all disappointments.

Derkack's brother really showed out vs top competition over weekend, Camden and the ranked team from Indiana. So maybe he can play at this level. no idea. Supposedly has a Nova offer but there is a family connection there.

Acuff and Derdack should have defined rolls, they need to be on the floor with the correct personnel who allow them to be put in positions to succeed.
Acuff and Derdack add complementary scoring to a healthy Ace and Dylan.
If Acuff isn’t a catch and shoot guy…let him shoot off the dribble.
I’ve seen him play defense and get rebounds.
His 3rd option scoring can win games if used correctly.
Personally, I feel much better with the ball in Acuff’s hands than JWill

True, but it’s not splitting hairs to suggest the one who was supposed to be a starter, the spot up shooter when one of the 2 top players draws a double team and the only other inside presence alongside whoever the 5 is and instead hasn’t proved any better than the others with lower expectations is the clear biggest bust.
