Breaking News:... HC might be announce soon... and it's Ash

I hope he brings in a new OC. I like mcdaniels but we need something closer to a spread
I like McDaniels as well. I think he was constrained by Flood.

Wanted an offensive coach but happy with getting someone from the Meyer tree.

I can get excited about this!

Finally... no more 10 yard cushions by DBs.

Looks like I'll be hitting up the ticket office for season tickets soon enough.

I wanted a change in offensive philosophy to some sort of spread for some time so an offensive coach would have been fine with me. But you know there's something to be said for defensive guy as long as he's willing to employ a spread. Offensive spread coaches are becoming quite ubiquitous now so it's probably easier to find them but solid to good defensive coaches are a little harder to come by so it's not a bad idea to snag one of them assuming they run a spread. Then they can go out an hire one of those ubiquitous spread coaches.

great choice.

he has already stated that he wants to run a dual threat QB system similar to what OSU is running. yes, we will need a OC that can run that O.
Where did you see this? I was hoping this would be the case

I read somewhere that he prefers the Wisky Offense that was run with Russell Wilson - not a straight pro-set or spread but a balanced hybrid where the QB can do damage with his arm and feet.

Interesting factoid, Ash is from Ottumwa, Iowa which is the home of the fictitious Water "Radar" O'Reilly.

No complaints.

But why is he only a co-DC?????
I think Fickell was just "grandfathered" into the position as a "token of appreciation" for being the guy to help after the Tressel issues. After working with him, I think Urban knew he had an okay coach but nothing special and needed help.

I know many wanted an offensive-minded coach, but I still think our best bet is a strong defense.

I second that. If you're near to starting from scratch, you will always find yourself in games if you build a tough defense first. Offense gets all the glamour but many teams that became good teams started with building a tough defense first. It may be a little boring, but you'll be bored happy with the results.

Let's start working on the ""Defense! (clap-clap) Defense!" chant from the 1970s.

VK, i cannot recall exactly where i read that but here are couple of things i also remember:
1- he is considered as one of the brightest defensive minds out there today. there is actually a youtube video where he teaches other coaches how to defend the spread attack. he has a keen understanding of spread attacks.
2- he reminds me of a young Schiano but better. if you look at his video, he takes tampa 2 and tweaks a bit to rattle the QBs. a lot. he emphasizes a lot about covering zone read based attack. it's like an attacking D, which is what we saw from last year's OSU D since the Vtech loss. can you imagine a D that emphasizes on attacking?
3- he seems to understand Offense reallly really well. especially the spread variations. he is also have studied Meyer's offense a lot. i mean a lot.

No complaints.

But why is he only a co-DC?????

i think another reason is that Meyer loses his OC and DC a lot. Ash told Meyer that he wanted to be a HC before he took the job. so Meyer seems to have co-OC co-DC for continuity.

listen dude, Ash probably will have a learning curve as an HC for sure. but, i would take Ash over anyone you mentioned above. Golden? you must be kidding. he is a joke.

i will just say this. Ash is considered one of the brightest defensive minds today.

lol... Kelly ? How about anyone with some experience as a HC ? Rhule... Golden .. even Cristobal. Wake up.. they have no intention of making this into a competitive team anytime in the near future ...
Prowl somewhere else where they might buy you're BS....way to greet a new HC....don't post much..stick to what you do best...stay under the radar..

Just my 2 cents guys...but I think your getting a very good Coach. Ash is extremely intelligent...you'll see during his into presser. He performed miracles fixing our shit-ball defense after the 2013 season. Another thing to keep in mind is he was the point man for Patrice Rene's recruitment for OSU..so Rene should be very familiar with Ash. Should help keep him in the fold.

To answer a question above...Meyer likes to give out "Co" titles to help give a boost in pay. Not to mention it looks better on a resume for his respective Coaches.

Should be an interesting year in C-Bus next season. We lose almost all our starters...we lose our DC...and it's been mentioned on our boards that big changes may be in store with the Coaching staff on the Offensive side of the ball. As you know Warriner was a candidate here so I assume he probably won't be around. Will be interesting for sure...

like i said....embittered....Cuse tried to get him and he dropped out..its not like he was desperate...If your right i'll own up to it....I hope you're way off....believe it or not i thought AG was our best hope too but whatevers good enough for RU is good enuff for me..

No to all three. Rhule couldn't win the AAC conference even with a loaded Temple team, and both Al Golden and Mario Cristobal already failed as head coaches. And I'll be right back here to make you eat crow if Rutgers football succeeds in the coming years..

He dropped when it looked like he could get the Rutgers job.

He recruited NJ for OSU along with lots of other states.

The 'C' in 'AAC' stands for conference.
