Butch Davis hired at FIU

As Butchy Boy famously instructed his UNC players, "If you want an education, go to Harvard." This on top of academic improprieties involving tutors, plagiarism, etc. as well as all those AFAM fake classes, as well as impermissible benefits, as well as an assistant coach tethered to a sports agent. Terrific hire. Just terrific.

I see this going about as well, for FIU, as the Schnellenberger Experiment went for FAU.

He was one of the ones on plum street's short list. He built Miami back into a power, had some success in the NFL and at UNC.

Really who cares? Our team is the BIG stink and just got waxed 49-0 by the second worst team in the confernce. And we have the gall to question a successful coach in this sport ?

The guy can flat out coach, is charismatic, but will be very challenged at FIU with their conference, facilities, and reputation. 1 or 2 decent years there and he's back in the P5. He'll put together a decent staff and contend by his 2nd season there.

this year will be their fifth losing season in a row - putting this program on a winning track is not going to be an easy or swift feat
- it will take him 2-3 years before he will be able to have "1 or 2 decent years" & since he is 64 right now - even if he executes a pristine turn-around he will be unlikely to be a candidate at any major program -
good for him to get a chance to get back in the game - but the stigma that made it so difficult is not entirely wiped away and most of the schools that shunned him will still be unwilling to give him consideration

Then why is he going to FIU?

He got tired of doing Sirius Satellite radio, just like Mike Leach a year or 3 earlier, who left Sirius to take over Wash St, a place where some said he couldn't be successful. Sirius Satellite is where fired coaches go to bide their time until the next gig. You can catch Curt Flood there too a couple days a week. He's actually pretty good, lol. Rick Neuhesil too !

I mean why didn't some P5 school hire him. He is 64 years old.

I don't know. Maybe still a bit of a 'taint' surrounding his leaving UNC. The guy has won everywhere he's been. 64 isn't all that old. Ask Bill Snyder.

Surprised Rick has not gotten a CFB gig yet. That other guy Curt, not so surprised.

That doesn't sound like a bad deal for FIU then. FAU has 4 winning seasons and 2 Bowl games in their history --- all under Schnellenberger (who literally built the program from scratch, of course).

To put that in further context: both FAU and FIU have been playing football since 2001. FAU has twice as many all-time winning seasons (4 vs 2) and just as many Bowl games.

"Taint" and "Butch Davis" definitely belong in the same sentence together.

Not so sure who's more corrupt-Davis or the impending Trump (and I trust Trump mpre than his cronies) staff.
The CE board is that way ------>

Nope, never happened. Just ask the UNC administration. Ask Swofford. Ask Politi. Besides, if any of this had happened, the NCAA would be all over it and UNC football would be hammered.

They literally expected Howard to do, for FAU, what he did @ Miami, which he didn't do, hence my comments. IIRC so did Schnellenberger.
