Butch Jones being interviewed

LOL at Cryan calling for Hobbs to step down. WHat a corrupt buffoon that guy is. He says its due to the performance of the athletic department.... I'd love to hear him opine on that further... I guarantee he knows exactly zero about Rutgers athletics.

@Spare130 , What do you make of this? I reached out to my source, and radio silence.
It doesnt change anything to me IMO Schiano will be here and soon. The only thing I put out there that I'm not 100% sure of is that Monday will be the day.
Also, I dont know why me and a few others are described as "internet bullies" because we simply posted things we heard from reliable sources. Its a message board. Nobody has to believe what people say. You have been respectful the whole way but others are describing posters as bullies and internet trolls lol. Its not that serious.

how come the first thing these turd politicians say...Democrat of course...is YOU MUST RESIGN...without facts, what is it with Dems saying you are guilty before innocent and before they know even one fricking fact
Because everything offends them. Even if somehow the whole story turned out to be false, they would say fire him anyway.

It feels more like this is Pat trying to do his thing in the face of the top-tier guys doing their thing. Yeah, it would make sense to interview other candidates, but the question I would LOVE an answer to is "Did Jeff Towers (for instance) know about this interview beforehand?"

Thinking about this further, I cannot see what a Butch Jones interview does, other than give Tennessee fans a good laugh. Now when they run off Hobbs and hire Schiano, most of the fan and donor base will applaud.

Hobbs should be openly pro-Schiano at this point, and who cares if he wants to answer directly to the BOG? Football is a friggin disaster, and the hardest piece to fix. Running our AD without responsibility for football has to be one of the sweetest gigs you could come up with. It is really, really hard to set a lower bar.

I don't see any internet trolls or internet bullies posts, and I am a happier man for it.

Are you trying to derail this thread? Your garbled word salad is a mess and your central point is laughable. As if republicans have never jumped the gun with incomplete information.

Even if Schiano is his number one this is a smart play. You don’t tap GS on the shoulder and say you’re my only guy. You want him to feel that you’re my guy if we can work it out but otherwise there are other viable candidates. You need leverage while negotiating and this provides some. Even the GS supporters here don’t want to give him a blank check (except maybe Al!)

Yup. My source is dead to me. LOL. I never said take it to the bank or anything like that and cautioned about what happened with the Flood firing after the 2013 USF game.
C'mon. You said contracts were signed.

You deserve whatever ball busting you get. Don't you have a rock to crawl under? LOL.

But I have to give @zappaa credit. He indicated that interviews were still going on, and he implied that he knew that from agent contacts. Solid intel from him.

I don't need to hide. I posted exactly what I heard. And the source seemed solid. I caveated my posts, reminding people what happened with the purported firing of Flood after the 2013 USF game. Whoops, I got bad information. Will not be the last time that happens when someone posts on these forums that they got information from a "good source."

So, can he recruit here? If there is a question about that, then he doesn't belong here. To get this program out of the SHI hole that Ash/Hobbs got us into, it is the ONLY thing that matters right now.

There is no question that GS can recruit here. He can turn this mess around. So unless Hobbs is interviewing some superstar coach like Urban, GS is our best shot. For Rutgers, right now GS is the closest thing we can get to a superstar coach. GS will immediately bring fans back as soon as he is hired. Guys like Jones won't have immediate impact. He'd have to first show that he has the right stuff to rebuild before poeple like me even think about returning.

Dont think Butch is the right hire. Others have said it, and ill say bn it again. I dont think butch has ever turned around a program. He did well when he followed brian kelly... but he never stuck around long enough to tell if he improved them. Serious concerns

If I'm not mistaken I though Greg and Butch were GA's under Dick Anderson. Dream team would be Greg HC and DC, Butch OC (getting paid the delta from the rest of his Tenn. HC Salary) and he is the next HC after Greg retires in 3 to 5 years. Great DC, Great OC , noise in New York market and a staff that can go against anyone in the Big Ten... Perhaps I'm wrong on the GA statement, though seem to remember this. One could only dream.

Pushing back. Maybe trying to break the boosters. But to what end? Wouldn't that sry up donations?

And we shouldn't forget all this taking place within the back drop of a presidential search.

Factions fighting factions? Dear old Rutgers getting shot up in the crossfire again?

Rutgers has been getting hit with political bullets for hundreds of years!
The fans have the Canon, we need to fight back and take over the program

What would lead you to believe Jones would be a good OC?

And the plot thickens...
or the plot sickens .
I'm getting sick of everyone knowing exactly what's happening , arguing about what going on in the coaching search that supposedly ended but now with a new twist of Butch being interview and a chubby checker twist again excuse of having to interview 3 candidates , implying Greg was hired, but it's a secret.
I'm waiting for the next peppermint twist in this Schiano was hired, Hobbs is fired secret society knowledge that is leaving me in a ball of confusion
because it seems to me, I'm the only one that doesn't have inside knowledge to share posting about the Ash replacement issue.

Your source may still be right...and either way your original post was appreciated. Lots of fun conversation tonight with my tailgate friends!

Butch was under Grabes I think.

Lighten up. You're the one who had posted that you were going to look for a rock to crawl under if you were wrong. I was just busting you on it.

I don't have a problem with your posting the rumor you heard, and you weren't arrogant about it. But you did say that contracts are signed and if Jones was interviewed Friday, it doesn't seem like contracts are signed.

Wait until Monday passes. It is our job as message board posters to bust your chops. Our contracts are signed.

Oh, OK. All is well.
I was not part of the Monday prediction. The week of Nov. 6 would make more sense. I do see a scenario where the contract is signed (which were the words my contact used) is viable, however, interviewing candidates after a contract is signed with another candidate does not make a lot of sense, unless it is for a coordinator position. Another fly in the ointment is if Hobbs stays or goes. Remember, at Tennessee, Greg has a signed Memorandum of Understanding with Tennessee's then AD, Currie, only for it to unravel because other signatures were required and never obtained.

We shall see.

The only thing I've been saying is just about certain is that Greg is interested and I stand by that. The other thing I had heard from a different source, which I posted about in another thread, is that Jones and Bielema are two other candidates we're very interested in, so Butch being interviewed is not a surprise to me.

Memo to Pat ---->. Even Kyle Flood beat Bielema, twice. He failed at Arkansas, what makes you think he'll rebuild this dumpster fire? Not sure we have sweaters big for his girth anyway.

”...but one rival Big Ten coach expressed skepticism to NJ Advance Media that he would be able to productively recruit the tri-state area if he were to be hired as Rutgers’ next head coach.”

Uh, why even include this in the article? :Laughing
They have to. It's a rule.

There aren't enough doughnuts, either. Flood only beat Bielema once. He beat John L. Smith the other time.

I do know this. You can't start with interviewing Butch then hire a no-name coordinator for $2mm. At least this first interview kind of sets the market.

Better fire Hobbs first before he signs contract with someone we don’t look like.

You deserve whatever ball busting you get.

It’s far worse the attempts now to minimize what you said or deflect from it. You indicated on or before 10/31 contracts were signed.

Thats what was definitively said by you.

I wonder if that is possible?
I guess not because assuming others beyond but AD have to give their approval.
Yes. Barchi and the BOG need to give their approval. If Hobbs recommends signing a contract with someone and is overruled by Barchi and the BOG then Hobbs is as good as gone because that means his superiors don't trust his judgement on one of the most important parts of his job.

Well if that were the case you'd think he'd be fired before it even got to the point of rejecting a selection of his....which is what some here seem to be intimating will happen.

Wonder what the percentage is of New Jersey legislators, either party, who have season tickets for their State University football and/or basketball teams? Or even go to a few games a year?I will be stunned if it is over 20 percent. Wonder what it is in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Mich, Alabama, South Carolina, Texas, etc.
