Can we stop with the false narrative of "Hobbs had no plan"?

New coaches are hired all the time before they actually take over the team. They watch the team from afar while helping with recruiting and planning on assembling a staff.
They are hired, but do not assume control of the team until after the season.

How many are hired mid-season?

Different situation entirely.
Team A makes bowl game.
HC A hired away and leaves prior to bowl game.
HC B hired but doesnt assume control until after the bowl game.

When has a coach been hired actually mid-season and not during Bowl Season?

Kansas with Les Miles is close but the "fired" HC still coached the last 3 games. And Les Miles wasn't actually hired until the week of the last game of the season.

Off the top of my head I can't think of many, it's usually after the season and then they observe the bowl from the sidelines/booth....although occasionally take over the bowl game like Dykes did at SMU.

Our level of suck has broken new ground. New precedences need to be set.

So I am still waiting for anyone of the complainers to explain how Rutgers been prejudiced by this "extraordinary two week delay" in Hobbs hiring and announcing the search firm. If Hobbs' plan is to interview multiple coaches, and then hire the best possible candidate, and then announce said hiring as soon after the end of the season as possible... are you guys thinking 6-8 weeks is not enough time to do that? Do you guys realize that anyone currently employed as an HC (which you are all demanding) will likely not even interview until after the regular season is over?

I guess I just do not understand what the gripe is with the "no plan" contingent. Even assuming its true - Hobbs has no plan, no list, whatever - are you suggesting that we do not have enough time to hire a quality coach? We are literally the first job on the market. Its not like its mid-December and available coaches are being hired by other schools.

You are over thinking it. The No Plan people are just Schiano diehards, since Schiano hasn't been named yet, he must have no plan. It is the same thing with Hobbs would never work with Schinao people. Since Schiano hasn't been hired yet, that must mean that Hobbs has a huge ego or some BS.

You can't reason with anyone who thinks like that.

His plan was to keep Ash for 4 games and promote a high school coach. It's a plan. Just not a very good one.

Again. Hobbs has no idea how quickly this will spiral out of control. The team RU is fielding is not of the same caliber as its opponents. What happens if someone gets seriously hurt?

Maybe it's an accident or maybe there is a serious gap in talent. Either way, things will get way worse, real fast.

His plan leaves too many variables that are beyond his control. It's a bad plan.

See, this is the fair criticism. The fair criticism is why the hell was Ash retained last year, when this year's results were anything but unexpected. Did Hobbs really want to give Ash a chance to show improvement? Did they think the team would improve under either McClane or a more developed Sitkowski?

Or was that all lip service, and the BOG simply wouldn't authorize Hobbs to fire Ash last year due to the cost? I tend to think that was the real deal.... Hobbs, for whatever you want to say about him, is a pretty smart guy. I think he saw the same things we all saw with Ash.
