Carino 3 points on SJU

We have to make them a jump shooting team because if they penetrate they will get our bigs in foul trouble. We need to hope they are off from the perimeter and take our chances. On offense, we need to pound it down low and break their pressure. Once we break that first wave, we should be getting layups and dunks all night as long as we take care of the ball. They are basically 7 deep, so they aren't going to want to play defense that hard besides gambling for steals and hoping we turn it over.

My number one concern...pressure on the guards and Rutgers guards have the speed to stay with them on the defensive end.

But, I"ll be in NJ for the game and good things happen when I am at the RAC.
agreed, those are my concerns as well. Geo legitimately might have to go 40 minutes. McConnell and mathis should see minimal time in this game. They're not ready for a game like this

Our size will bother them the same way it did with Bowling Green(Sju only won by 4!). Luckily we have guys like carter duke to burn some fouls in the paint and set the presidence.

I’m excited for this game. Dreading how long my work day will be tomorrow until at the RAC

I'm working down in Montgomery tomorrow until about 1pm and rather than drive back up to Hoboken then drive back down I'm going to head over to New Brunswick around 1:30 and find ways to kill time haha

The key is to pass over pressure and not try to dribble thru it. Geo, kiss and Issa all havethe length to pass over it without having issues.

If we’re in man and SJU penetrates, one of our bigs contests: do we rotate well enough to protect against the drop down pass AND the kick out to three, and if we force a missed layup have we boxed out after the help to prevent O rebounds and easy put backs?

I think Mathis will see time because of his athleticism and greater ability to stay with their guards on defense, compared to McConnell... but for a steal-happy team like SJU, he can't be the one handling the ball too much offensively.

My concern is that our backcourt isn't cagey enough to use SJU's defensive aggressiveness against them. Going heavily for steals will lead to overcommitting at times, and good ball fakes could prey on that - just don't know if any of our underclassmen are at the point where they could exploit it.

I wonder what that may involve...

Pikiell knows this, I think. Souf played a total of 0 minutes against SHU and the three tournament games. He tightens his rotation for big games.

Kiss actually has a decent ability to draw fouls. Nothing extraordinary but he draws them at a higher rate than Geo. Montez has also drawn a lot in his two games, but that comes at the price of some reckless turnovers and bad (so far) FT shooting.

Sounds like ample time to hit up some of the old bars or restaurants.
Hoping the Morristown traffic doesnt cause me many delays.

We have a problem in that we have no one who can stop their dribble penetration. On the other hand, we create SO MANY matchup problems for them.

love this: UPSET INCUBATOR

St. John’s comes into this game as a solid favorite on paper, with a No. 39 ranking by Kenpom.com compared to No. 118 for Rutgers. But a rocking RAC is an upset incubator (see: Seton Hall last December). The Scarlet Knights and their faithful have a chance to make an impression in a game that will be watched closely around the country.

I sure Pike is studying the Bowling Green tape... opportunity to impose our size and strength.

it looks like the guards got inside us a bit too easily the first two games, this will be worse, since St Johns has major guard talent.

I think it will be the key to the game...... last year I thought I saw the same, in early games, and we got better as the season wore on.....

I looked at sju board mid week. Many of their fans have concerns with their team and fear Rutgers. They are not perfect, either. Pressure Simon, drive st him and try will not have the depth to replace him. Mustapha heron turns it over under pressure, too.

I checked out their board too. You have some who think Rutgers has always been bad and think they should have gotten a sexier matchup against another B1G school and others who have seen our 3 point shooting and blow outs early and are concerned. People giving Rutgers and the RAC credit as a tough place to play and concerned with our size advantage
