I think he would kill himself in the locker room from the abuse. It would be the Mike Rosario Florida game multiplied several levels.

Would be somewhere in between imho. He’d 100% get boos but don’t think it would get anywhere near vitriol like Rosario or billet. After all , honestly, he didn’t do much here so don’t think people would care like they din with other more high profile transfers

Seems like GG was getting better coaching and PT and making more progress at RU. Time spent here learning the system would have helped him this year. He is starting over at Neb as just another portal guy in the herd.

I still think he has promise and will develop faster once he gets beyond his own expectations.
He isn't developing anything. Would be surprised if even playing basketball at all next year.

Add him to list of players that fit and played in Pike’s system and didnt fit elsewhere

That’s a stretch to say he fit in our system. We were not a good team last year and its not exactly the case that he earned his playing time on that team based on his court performance.

almost feel a little bad for Gavin. Just seems like a kid who’s way too timid / lackadaisical to make it as this level. Always seemed a little out of it on the court.

So many people say after their last pro, college or high school game is that they are going to miss the people, the comradery, the sense of the mission and the clarity of winning or losing together. I really think this gun-for-hire era is misstruck bargain, but today's player never see what they are missing out on.

There is really something special about the friendships that develop among teammates. It can still happen over a single season, but I don’t think it’s as strong as the bond that develops over several years. As the parent of several high school and college athletes, I have to say that I also truly appreciate the lasting friendships I made with other parents as we sat together watching our kids compete along with the time we spent together when they competed on the road. It’s not just the athletes that are missing out.

I get what you’re saying, but a well managed 100k+ windfall for a college player is a monstrous boost for them in post college life. Would take that every day over the nice team experience. Key is well managed though, if you blow it on nonsense you’d probably benefit more from a disciplined team building experience.

He was definitely improving toward the end of the year for us last year. Now he’s going nowhere. The RU staff are great player developers. Leaving was a big mistake.
At one point in his high school senior year, was he not a five star player?
Then downgraded a bit?
How the neck could this have happened?

I still think he has the tools to be a solid contributor with the right coaching and right environment. Unfortunately for him, that environment was probably here.

He will need to add a lot more muscle to be competitive at power 5 game.

Partially agree. He’s a 3pt sniper. I think he’s wiry and tall and actually gets decent boards and scraps ok …for a perimeter player. He mostly just needs to hit more 3s.

But he is terrible defender and rebounder so what good is it if he cannot out score the guy he is defending

It's a little hard to say he should have stayed and this was the right place for him when his replacement (Hayes) took zero shots yesterday and 2 against ND.

We would likely be having the same conversations about needing to get more 3pt shots but swap "GG" for "Martini/Hayes".

Actually, we did have the same conversations last year.

The question is, would you rather have Gavin or Hayes?

Or Cliff or Ogbole?

I don’t think he’s a half bad rebounder. Last year his defense progressed from abysmal to below average. With more time and good coaching he might have been decent with his length and springiness.
