Carli Lloyd

By all accounts, ie anecdotal experiences from folks in South jersey, anecdotal experiences from professional contacts who may have worked with her, and stories like this, Carlie, is really not a very nice person. However you cannot deny her accomplishments which are terrific.

I had classes with Carli, even though she wasn't often here with her national team responsibilities. I've got friends who played soccer with her. I've never heard anything along the lines of being a jackass or anything, just very, very intense and demanding of the people around her to do better.

Doesn't mean others haven't had bad experiences, though.

I had one experience with Carli. I took my daughter (a soccer player) to a Sky Blue game at Rutgers. Carli was not playing - she was a spectator. She walked into the stands past where we sitting. My daughter recognized her right away and asked her if she could take a picture with her. Carli said "not now" and coldly walked away. My daughter was wearing her club jersey and a Rutgers hat.

Conversely, my daughter played a scrimmage during halftime at a Sky Blue game and was coached by Brandi Chastain. Not only did Brandi take lots of pics with the girls, but we mailed a photo to Brandi, she signed it personally to my daughter and mailed it back.

Well here is an actual account to the contrary.
Carli and her family are all very nice people.
I can say this, because, I have spent a lot of time with them.

I'm from Delran and was a couple years ahead of her. My only memory is that she sat by herself on our middle school bus and that she was the only girl that would play in pick up basketball in gym class in high school. So I guess she

So basically a similar personality to Michael Jordan.

I'm projecting here. Never met her. never spoken to her. From the large number of interviews I've watched she seems very intense, very focused, and incredibly driven. Maybe she's just not comfortable in the public eye? She does seem to have a me against the world attitude but you know what? It works for her.

Gonna put on my anti-sexist hat for a sec and say while it might be noted, no one would blink an eye if she were a man.

I believe she's getting married in the near future. Wish her and I believe her former RU golf team spouse to be the best.

She'll be up in Ridgewood doing a book signing this coming Monday - can go talk to her and find out for yourself! :)

Monday, September 26th @ 7:00pm
2X Olympic Soccer Gold Medalist,
Carli Lloyd, will sign her new book:
When Nobody was Watching

( from OP article) >“I love my family and would like nothing more than to reconcile with them. Nobody has done more for me than my parents, who devoted untold amounts of time and money that allowed me to play the game I love,” Lloyd writes. “It’s no exaggeration to say I never would have gotten anywhere near a World Cup, an Olympics or even the U.S. national team without them. I have never forgotten that, and I never will.”<
That sounds like something someone we should admire would say, not someone we are looking for ways to make out like she's a bad person.

No one is trying to make her out to be anything. These are personal experiences. Anecdotal or not they still seem to occur far too frequently.

She's a little different from famous RU alumni like Todd Frazier and the McCourty's. They're always posting about Rutgers on social media, but if she ever tweets about Rutgers, please let me know.

I think she has anxiety around groups of people and we interpret her to be snobbish or closed off. I guess we won't know unless she wrote it in her book.
Another famous athlete who had a dropping out with his family and does not talk to any of them is Aaron Rodgers. It is such a sensitive subject that no family member will talk about it nor Aaron.

I'm not saying she is or isn't nice but a reference regarding ones character from A PSU fan aint worth much these days.

You did state -
By all accounts, ie bla, bla, bla, Carlie, is really not a very nice person and you misspelled her first name.

I took offense to it, because, I know her and her family.
Plus, what you said simply isn't true about her or me.

Finally, although I'm not a PSU fan, I know many nice people who are.

Continue on with your judgements. You have the right to type whatever you wish. But, that doesn't make what you type good.

Sorry.

Board,

MY experiences regarding Carly have been negative - at both a personal and professional level. Specifically, comments pointing to her rude nature.

This other poster says she is a great person. He has had only positive experiences.

Taking him at his word I now know both of the above are true.

Now carry on.

And you spelled her name wrong a second time

I don't know what the situation is now, but Lloyd definitely had a relationship with RU in 2013 (see link). It was an interesting dynamic meeting the two of them. Lalas was as gregarious as they come. He could talk your ear off. Lloyd was just the opposite... farouche, but respectful to all the fans eager to get her autograph and/or have a photo taken with her.

As someone who has been to a number of book signings it's pretty common for the organizers to stipulate that you can only get a signature on a book that you purchased at the event. Plenty of authors will happily sign whatever you put in front of them assuming you are not that jackhole that brings an armful of stuff to resell. But the host store is looking to sell product not provide freebies for fans.
