Changing of the Guard

Come on. If Ash's plan is to have Gio replace Laviano as the starter any time soon don't you think he would have kept him in longer?

Nothing wrong with it but too many are thinking with their heart. There's something really wrong with this place if I'm the "realist" around here.

Oden's Redshirt has NOT been Burned. He could develope a minor injury in the next few weeks, and he could still be redshirted. Coaches have big decisions to make.
They have no intention of RS'ing him. He will see more time as the season goes on. This will be CL's last year QB'ing. How far into the year he is taking snaps this year will be determined by his playmaking or lack of playmaking on the field.

Good to see the new coaches willing to look at all options after suffering through to all those years of stubbornness with Flood.
Now wait a minute. It was only last week that people were posting at half time that Ash was too stubborn to make a QB change. Now he is not stubborn. I'm thoroughly confused.

Sct1111 makes a good point.....we don't know who will actually be here next year. I'm as perplexed as everyone else concerning the qb situation. I just don't enjoy watching the coaching staff trying to force our current qbs into a scheme for which they are not suited. If this was the intention from the outset, then they should have chosen either Allen or resigno ,as they can run a bit. At the same time they could have redshirted oden. It's not Latvians fault that none of these guys can beat him out. Just my humble opinion.

Im never bash a RU player so I will tread lightly. CL is not a B10 QB, he really shows me nothing and our program depends on a play making qb. Even Dodd looks good to me now. Keep changing qbs till we find the guy. Not like were bowl bound this yr so use this season to find out.

I think it is safe to say we will have Lewis, Gio, Allen, Oden next year.

I think Lewis is the qb that leads Rutgers forward. I too would like to see more guys get in if it is clear Laviano is not working.

The staff watches the qbs. That is their job. I will let them do it.

Without a star QB and playing an offense where a QB is expected to carry the ball, playing multiple QBs makes the most sense. Especially when a game's outcome is decided. Though I am not sure I use multiple QBs when their hands are tied with regards to throwing the ball. Play the game out in a more than one dimensional way.

What was Ash and company suppose to do tell Laviano and Rettig "Pack your bags you're not good enough for this offense?" No, they handled it appropriately and taught them the offense which exposed their limitations in running it, got a L'ville qb verbal to flip and sign, recruited a transfer qb, got a verbal from top HS qb, promoted an existing RU qb with appropriate skillset. Ash and staff have handled this situation like pros or rather like college coaches with the best interests of the student athlete and program at heart. If this were the pros CL and HR would have been cut a some time ago.

I was shocked to see Oden as I thought he would redshirt, too thin and tough for a freshman to come in and play qb. Part of the shock was Gio is the #2 and only got one play due to his superior run. Gio needs to see time in all games if CL holds on to the starting spot, even if the game is close. While Oden showed me some surprising strength and nice speed I think he needs to be brought along cautiously until he fills out more. Gio can handle the hits better as he has almost 40 lbs on Oden.

Oden is a long strider and he is deceptively fast, he also cuts well. He understands the spread and unlike Laviano is a quick decisive decision maker, a lot of the spread involves read option and making quick decisions, something CL has as yet not mastered. Odin's issue is not arm strength but in his ability to master the necessary footwork and read defenses, it not how far you throw the ball but where you throw it.

Maryland is not a rival because you said it is. I doubt there is one person on this board that hates Maryland. Rivalries have to develops naturally. You can't force it.
Disagree - the B1G is setting this up as a RU-Maryland rivalry. This is the 3rd year in a row, the teams have played each other on the last day of the season or rivalry weekend. The 2 states and universities and much in common. So far the games have been amazing even though they didn't mean that much as far as bowl positioning. Year 1, RU won after the biggest comeback in school history. Year 2, Maryland won after an incredible comeback on their end. It has all the makings of a natural rivalry that will intensify when both teams improve and the outcome of the game is meaningful in the conference standings or bowl invitations.

Stop its not a rivalry. Potentially it could be. Not even close yet. People on this board dislike BC , Cuse and UCONN more than MD and we no longer play those school. BTW a rivalry has to be two sided and Maryland doesn't care either.
