***Chris Laviano named Starting QB***

hmm

Hopefully he can now complete passes longer than 2yds consistently. Otherwise our run game is gonna get screwed.

Not unexpected , I won't complain because seems like Chris is well respected by his teammates and haven't heard of any of the other QBs pulling away from the crowd fighting for starting position .

Don't worry for two reasons. 1). Ash is much more likely to pull him if he isn't getting the job done and 2). Whoever was named starter was only filling in until Oden is ready

@KSargeantNJ: Chris Ash announces Chris Laviano as his starting quarterback for first game vs. Washington #rutgers

@KSargeantNJ: Ash says Laviano has shown "most consistency'' and is "best decision maker in the group.'' #rutgers

@KSargeantNJ: Ash says Laviano "has earned the trust of the staff and the players'' #rutgers

@rydunleavy: BREAKING: #Rutgers names Chris Laviano starting QB, edging #TCU transfer Zach Allen. #RFootball #B1G http://www.nj.com/rutgersfootball/index.ssf/2016/08/chris_laviano_rutgers_starting_qb.html

@rydunleavy: To be clear, @CoachChrisAsh said Laviano is still not necessarily "game ready" but he wanted to make decision now for continuity. #Rutgers

@rydunleavy: Ash: "Chris is our guy. Chris is no different than any other position, he has to perform well." No clear length of leash on him. #Rutgers

@rydunleavy: Ash: "We have not named who are top backup will be. That will take a few more days." #Rutgers

@JPPelzman: Coach Chris Ash says Chris Laviano will be starting QB

Kind of expected. I expect Allen to be the starter or splitting time by game 4. Also with an additional year and a real staff. Maybe hell be semi successful.

@rydunleavy: Ash: Laviano has done a nice job of adapting to power spread but #Rutgers has to adapt play-calling to his skills.

Novel idea here...how about we get behind the QB that a new coaching staff has chosen, has an additional year under his belt, goes out and competes and clearly worked his ass off from Spring to now instead of snarky posts like this?

The kid who disparaged Rutgers alums on Twitter? Get behind him?

@rivalsnewjersey: #Rutgers has its starting QB

@rydunleavy: Ash: "Laviano had a tremendous summer." It's clear that Ash would not have made this decision in the spring. #Rutgers

@rydunleavy: Ash: Tylin Oden will keep being developed. No definitive redshirt or no redshirt plan. #Rutgers

Right or wrong, I just don't think he's the best answer at QB from the possible choices on this team. I don't mean anything personal to him, but I am sure Tyler Palko looked better than Joe Flacco at Pitt's practices as well.

Yes. You said it yourself. "Kid".

The "kid" made a mistake (two) on social media. Great, let's move on.

He has the support of teammates (for both years). Support now of two coaching staffs. Is going out and competing with the name of our alma mater on his chest. So if the teammates and (new) coaching staff can get behind him, why shouldn't we?

As the first game is not against a cup cake, Ash will see
right off bat how he plays against the big boys. I think ASH
is waiting for a wide receiver to out play him at QB, I think it is a set up, Ash doesn't want
Allen's first game to be against Washington, He will ease him in
against Howard.

You suck. Sorry but if you cannot get behind the guy who EARNED this job from 2 different staffs with plenty of competition then you suck.

Yeah those quotes really sound like he earned it. (By default.) Listen I'd be behind any Rutgers kid that didn't publicly take shots at the alumni. You try to be bigger than the school, it's history and alumni you lost my support. Oh and he's a terrible QB. Seriously take the points.

Can't tell you how you feel but something tells me that Ash, Mehringer and the rest of the coaching staff probably have more experience knowledge and first hand information to make the choice compared to you.

Ash & Co have no reason to be loyal to him (Flood's recruit), in fact would have been easier to pick Allen since they recruited him. So, to me, that speaks volumes about who a D-1 staff things is the best answer.

As a fan are we required to get behind every player on the team? One is able to be a fan of the school/jersey and not necessarily love every player on the team. But, I get that others believe you should actively support every single player on the field.

You can support who you like. You can also convince yourself that he's wearing the name of your alma mater on his chest. His social media quotes indicate he doesn't care if it's your alma mater or not.

Plausible. We did see this once before in 2009. Laviano is clearly the closest to being game ready so he wins. He has to continue to work hard to keep the job. Competition is a great thing. Let's support the guys who are on the field and not root for our team to lose to we can say "I told you so." We have way too many on this board and at games who seem to love to see us play poorly. It's sad really.

Raritan: I disagree with the decision. I have seen him play. I have seen him conduct himself off the field. I don't like the selection, no matter which regime it is.

If his ego is so fragile that somehow he sees my post and gets upset, it's even more reason to question his selection. That said, I will cheer for Chris from the stands.

BTW, it's not an a-hole post to disagree with who's starting. Have you even seen some of the junk found on the commitment(!) threads..? Do you remember the Dodd/Savage days..? Hart/Teel..? I could go on and on.

It's a message board, not church.

Take Washington, Lay the points.
The guys I know who actually bet on these games were already taking Washington and laying the points before the big announcement. As one said to me...."Even if Nova was out there vs. Washington it wouldn't matter."

I will say a few thing about this.

1. At least we know he actually earn it for real this time.
2. CL seems to look good in training and not so much during actual games, unlike Flood I really don't think that Ash and crew will keep him in the game no matter what.
3. This doesn't speak well for Flood's QB recruiting. If he beat out teh other QBs, what does that say about them? We might have to suffer until Tyler Oden is ready to go next year.
4. All that being said, I really hope that CL can pull a Nova and have a great final year as a starter.

I can't believe the negative a-hole comments already. Hello...he won the QB competition...again!! What, are we gonna boo him when he lines up for first snap in Seattle?

What's this we thing and a-hole comment? Boo who you like. Can you think for yourself?
