Northwestern's coach was speaking to Sanders and Johnson for quite a bit after the game. Probably giving them a pep talk and giving them props for the work that they do for the team. I don't know if other coaches have done that, but I thought it was classy.

He also spoke to our coach for quite a bit after the game as well.

I saw that too. It was a great moment. Collins is a class act and he knew his team ESCAPED with a win they probably didn't deserve. He knows we're on the way up and he showed props to Corey and Nigel and he also spoke a long time to Pike as well.

Collins is earning his money in year 4, NW is extremely limited in spots, but max out their potential...NW looked like RU does now in year 1 and Year 2 under Collins, just with more talent to work with. It will come down to RU retooling the roster and getting better/balanced players that can play offense and defense.

I had a pretty good feeling RU would be in this game yesterday and it's tough to close games out without FT shooting or a player that can get his own points at the forward position. In time, these games will be long forgotten and part of the process to turning the program around.

NW went through a lot of these games when no one was paying attention and they just fell short of the dance or made the NIT under Bill Carmody....I have no doubt that RU is ahead of schedule in comparison to where NW was, but as always, will come down to recruiting the right pieces to fit what we want to do.

Even though I'm pissed we dropped another close one, RU stayed in this game because of hidden/unexpected points from Eugene early....if we get another piece late in spring recruiting after the likely attrition occurs, RU will take a couple steps forward.

Winning the future recruiting battles must be a integral part of building a winning program at Rutgers.

I saw that too, and was bummed when they took the camera off them. I wanted to see how long he was gonna talk with them, but that makes a loss that much better when the opposing coach takes extra time to talk with you. Loved that.

Also McIntosh gave props after the game saying you have to give Rutgers credit they are going in the right direction.
Yeah, that was great of McIntosh to recognize and say that. I will be rooting for him and Northwestern the rest of season (unless they play Rutgers in B1G tournament) and NCAA's

Unlike the past 2 years when EVERY game I FEARED a blowout
One thing is for sure
we may not be closing out games well(yet)
BUT
we have earned a level of respect for our quality of play we never had before....

I went into both of the last two games thinking we'd get blown out and yet we were with 4 of Purdue in the second half and let Northwestern for almost the entire second half. This team is playing BETTER than expectations for me. I don't know what to expect in these last 3 games plus the tournament but I think it would be really neat if Pikiell can get a "signature" win in his first year

I have always thought that out of all the Big Ten teams, Northwestern comes the closest to reminding me of Rutgers in terms of academic reputation; spotty sports histories and they both are located outside of two of the great cities in this country.

But I believe Rutgers has the higher upside because it is bigger and has more resources to offer the student athlete. I really look forward to a weekend trip to Chicago and Evanston.

As dismayed as yesterday was, the future with Pikiell may be greater than any hoops coach we have ever had on the banks.
