Cliff’s Decision Date is Sunday - Alabama

Unfortunately not the only criteria , since he had that being next to Ace Bailey
My observation was solely about potential production, I wasn’t saying Cliff is seeking a team with that kind of player.
He should, but probably more about dollars

They have their targets that they are working on. None of it is impacted by Cliff’s decision and what those other schools may do.
I'm not sure how that can be true since the schools are directly competing against each other. I think there are a limited number of high major quality bigs, all the top schools are aware of them all. And there are a limited number of schools with top NIL. Offers and negotiations are on going and what one player or school does directly impacts the others.

RU is not getting a top tier guy unless you and others all recently sent extra large checks to help the cause. Richie's mentioned it in the various podcasts that are available to all.

Nothing but love for Cliff. Great player, student and seemingly teammate. Go get paid!
Absolutely. Big difference in him, Myles, Young, and even Cam and Gavin. Only Eugene, Mulcahy, and Mag screwed us over in my book.

I know that. And in my original post on this topic in this thread, my point was to wonder how many schools were above us in the NIL pecking order.

It’s pathetic that people can spend hours of their lives talking RU basketball and Football and still give squat. Alabama got Cliff because they offered the most money to him. We offer page after page of talk but NO action. Cliff on this team next year and we def win the BIG. A big miss of an opportunity by the fanbase.

As noted in the podcasts (hint, hint) RU is only mid tier in basketball NIL. So they are playing in the 2nd/3rd tier of portal targets and that's what they've landed so far.

You say that as if you think I’m disagreeing?

He was not going to get that type money . He more than likely wanted a new place. see him in the sweet 16 2025

Nope. Spencer got offered a bag and took it, like most would. Mulcahy waited about a month after that and then left, screwing the team royally. And that after watching his play deteriorate during his final year here while Pike continued to play him well more than he deserved. I do agree that he screwed himself as he wasn’t ever starting at the end this year… but at least he got paid…I guess. If he had left before Cam, no one would have cared.
The difference being most people expected Spencer to return when the season ended based on his words and actions, and few expected Mulcahy to return.

Mulcahy was pretty clear. He was considering all of his options throughout that whole process. Spencer went from "I'm returning" to "I'm gone" overnight one day.

Perhaps if Mulcahy didn’t take until a month after, we could have gotten someone to fill his role. When he left, there were zero options.

Timing was definitely an issue, but I don't think it came as a surprise to anybody that he didn't return.

My money was on him going overseas or becoming an assistant coach somewhere. At the time, I don't think many people gave him better than a 10-20% chance of coming back before Spencer announced he was leaving.

Pike may have been holding a spot for him, but him returning was a bit of a long shot.

Cliff is considered one of the top big men in the portal. He left RU to get paid and all his final four offered big money. Way more than anything RU could afford. The center RU brings in will likely be getting 2-3x less than what Cliff is going to receive.

Nah.

For many people, their interest in sports is only strong enough to enjoy watching on TV and talking about it online, falling far short of caring enough to spend any money on it. That’s no more pathetic than not sending Netflix extra money beyond our subscription because we enjoy watching a particular series.

Everyone has their own interests and priorities. Forming an expectation that others align their interests and priorities with ours is narcissistic thinking.

Whatever this is just more BS excuses. Game days if you’re not at the RAC or in the stadium you’re here early and often. If our so called diehards cared as much as Alabama fans and alums we would be talking about how awesome next year could be. Don’t complain about not winning when you know how the college sports world works. Your interest in college sports has you here every day so you’re all in except $$$$.

and there in lies the current mindset of what college basketball and anything in life means to a certain group and generation . yes it has always been there but now it is the norm. Good luck to you all.

where is your proof that RU didn't keep Cliff because of cash? It was discussed here well before the final game that he was gone and wanted to go elsewhere.

and maybe perhaps just maybe the Rutgers fanbase is more traditional and just doesn't want to be a sports factory and be "bama like" and live in a world that is just a tad higher thinking than winning at all cost sports identify us. After all this was an elite looking and thinking academic institution before "big time sports" and chasing the holy grail of college athletics became the agenda and drove the day. Perhaps a state like NJ bookended with pro teams doesn't exactly live to have their state university be another one. There just might be a whole lot of other things on the minds of it's vastly diverse population unlike the Bama's of the world.

For the record I was just fine with the records of my years here from '77 to ''83.

I agree that all the pundits were saying he's all but gone, but it also was discussed that earning money was the main driver not any dissatisfaction with Rutgers.

JFC, it's been reported on the premium side which you subscribe to that it was a mutual part of ways because Cliff was seeking to maximize his NIL and RU could not match anything he was being offered.

Rutgers fanbase bashes players and coaches on a game by game basis depending on wins and losses. The fan base wants to win but most are cheap and won’t donate a dime but still complain when we do not win. That education stuff is just an excuse for most. Alligator arms when it comes to really wanting to win. Everyone knows how recruiting works. Cliff would have been huge on this team next year now he will be huge for Alabama.

I don’t know about you but I’m part of a 3rd generation of Rutgers graduates and while my family is filled with “higher level” thinkers we also do care greatly about the wins and losses of our Alma mater

And for the record my closest friend and my cousin attended SEC schools or were born and raised in the sec belt and their line of thinking and behavior isn’t as simple minded as you may believe

Seems pretty rude of you and ignorant to categorize the alabamas of the world as having a lesser line of thinking because why? Because they choose to invest their hard earned dollars back into their schools and we invest them elsewhere?

Michigan and ohio state are in the same league as us… their alums pony up the dough

UConn is arguably a smaller athletic department as a whole than us… their fan base does their part

You can’t generalize based on geography or a semi discriminatory line of thinking because the south is dirty and this and that.

I do my part, my family does its part… I wish we could afford players to help the university win but there’s only so many of us.
