Coach Chris Ash Game Week Press Conference - Minnesota

Not a week-to-week decision. Gio is the starter.
Interesting about Hicks. He missed a couple of practices and was not ready to execute the plays they practiced. That explanation makes sense why he did not play.

Very well spoken presser by Coach Ash. Clearly our depth is a major problem at this point. But I have full confidence that we have the right HC at RU. It will take some time before we can turn over this roster.

I hate to say that RU fans need to be patient but there are no better options on the team than what we are seeing on the field on Saturdays.

I thought his answer for why Hicks didn't play was reasonable. You cannot miss practice and play at this level.
He forgot how to run with the ball? Really? He did not play on either kickoff team at all. Just on the sidelines no where near the offense with no helmet in sight. Clearly, a punishment by Ash! Let's not sugarcoat it.
Ash was very good in that press conference and gave you a sense of what goes into his mind when deciding to make a change, any change in a player, a position group, or deciding whether to run or pass. We are in good hands. However, he cannot be stubborn and not play his playmakers, and that goes for Hicks and Turay, and now finally Gio, more so due to his being a better fit for the offense he switched to this year than any other QB that was on the roster.

FWIW, Virtually every D 1 coach sits a kid who misses most of the game week's practice for something other than an injury.

That is true of most every other sport in college. Unless you are Bo Jackson or someone so above and beyond, if you don't practice, you likely aren't playing.

Of course it was punishment/retribution. You cannot miss practice at this level. Hell, we couldnt miss practice at the HS level and expect to play. I doubt if that is more than a 1 game thing, but who knows... we don't know why he missed practice.

A coach absolutely can be stubborn if the incident is missing two days of practice. I don't care who the player is. You cannot let that slide bc a kid is a playmaker. Rules about playing time apply to everyone. You don't practice you don't play. These are scholarship athletes. We should all blame Hicks for not being on the field, not the coaching staff for enforcing common sense rules.
