Whitebus - Just so you understand the reason people being upset about this: This is not the case of being “thin skinned” as you say. I could see saying that if another fan or even a newspaper reporter criticized Rutgers. In this case, a consultant hired by the conference that Rutgers belonged to made the snarky comment to the New York Times. That’s unacceptable. Anyone who followed the story knew exactly why he made the comment, and it was intended to cast doubt over us having any value to the Big Ten. Of course Rutgers fans had a right to be upset - any fan base would feel the same way.
Here's the facts.

Your timeline is wrong. The comment was made in 2010 two years before the lifeline. The funny thing about it was that the basketball schools were more mad at his comment as they were trying to separate from the football schools and Tagliabue is trying to keep it all together. Lol.

The main reason Miami was the first domino was because they wanted to expand the football conference, and the brain trust in Providence refused because they were afraid of losing their power in the conference.

I have a leak that has been extremely hard to find and fix. Is in an older part of the house that has hardwood board sheathing instead of plywood. Probably gonna have to rip some of it out and replace with plywood and new shingles.
Leaks are usually due to poor installation rather than the materials themselves. Make sure you use a good underlayment and a leak barrier at the joints. Plywood by itself will not prevent leaks.

It was a shot at the idea in the media that Rutgers was a target for the Big Ten. PT, as a consultant for the Big East, tasked with stabilizing the conference, made disparaging public remarks about Rutgers. As far as I could tell that was the one and only thing the PT ever did in his capacity with the Big East.
Following this Nebraska was added to the B1G, and the forward prospects for RU did not look good.
Commemorating the asinine comment, in a humorous way, by calling the RU - Minnesota game the Tagliabue trophy game, is a fun way of remembering that he was such an ass, but that we got the last laugh.
The real funny thing is Tagliabue just randomly picked two teams to make a point against the Big Ten in April. That 2010 season Rutgers went 4-8 and Minnesota 3-9. As I've said all along, he was right!
Yet here we are in an 18 team conference that spans coast to coast.. The power 5 is now the power 2, and we’re in it.

It was Rutgers that was targeted, and specifically because news had come out that the B1G was considering Rutgers as an addition.
And he was not right. The addition of Rutgers paid off immediately with the NY Market cable subscriptions.
