Coach Schiano

Hey, I was a major fan of GS the CEO, but a major hater of GS the game day coach. But GS towards the end he made a few bone headed hires (OC) and had one or two WTX! blowout games a year.

He told the nation, IT CAN BE DONE AT RU. But maybe he is just another one of those, "Great coordinator, below avg HC."'

Yet, Bellichick failed at Cleveland, and now is better than Lombardi.

Come on Moz, the whole "gameday coach" argument is based off nothing - and it's been regurgitated over and over again on these boards. How many of us know what adjustments and by whom they were made as the game went on? Major college ball isn't like that where you have one game plan and then for the second half you make another . It's a moving thing for the most part but it doesn't change all that much.

Having one of the best QBs of ALL TIME will do that to a coach.

Les Miles' coaching resume puts Schiano's to shame. He has a national championship under his belt, and he's still available, too. Schiano's not in the Saban/Meyer/Harbaugh tier of coaches. He's probably not in the next tier, either. I'd put him in the tier after that. He's better than average, but not cream of the crop, and no sure thing to take over a program and raise it to an elite level.
Disagree to some extent. Schiano turned around arguably the worst program in all of college football. His last recruiting class which he never got to coach was by far his best. If he had stayed I think he would have taken Rutgers to a new level. He left to coach the Bucs for two seasons and got kneecapped. Now he is at OSU as defensive coordinator. Schiano is a very good college coach. He has learned something new at everyone of his stops. At OSU he is going to learn how to be a good gameday coach from Urban. He will apply that knowledge to his next head coaching gig which will be next season or even a season after. There are always spots opening up at the top levels and Schiano is still young and will get a chance to coach at the top levels of college again.

UCF wasn't going to offer another another Defense First Pro Set style coach after having O'leary for so long.

That was spin/lies from the Schiano camp when he expected an offer & it didn't happen.

Wrong. UCF acknowledged that they offered him, but he wanted to wait a couple of days on another possible offer so UCF moved on. GS tried to get back in after it was clear that he was not going to get the other job, but UCF was put off by his using them as a safety job and told him no way.
