Rutgers G Corey Sanders says "I came in here to build a program and turn it around and it’s not going to happen in one year."

He understands he will have speedy and high flying back court mate Nigel Johnson with him next year.

He understands Freeman will return healthy for 2 more years. Sanders previous quote, " I know if I get the ball to him in his sweet spot, you will finish every time". He is missed right now.

He understands the best low post defender and rebounder in 6' 11 " big body Doorson will be back next year and Diallo will continue to show progress and offer another 6'10" body.

Yes, this is year 3, but, the first few years were about scrambling to get players to fill the roster with bodies. While adding some pieces. Yes, losing Etou and Johnson were setbacks, but, no one knows why they transferred. There were guys brought in like Okoro and Campbell to fill the roster. Craig Brown was a Rice recruit that Jordan kept because he needed bodies.

Like Corey Sanders.........I have a positive outlook for the next few years.

To quote the Buff Wild Wings commercial of a year ago... 'Well that's one!"

I'm glad to hear the Sanders stuff. none of it makes me feel like we'll even have a 500 team though.

I'm a long time beaten down fan right now. I'll believe it only when I see it and frankly I think I will be dead first.

Will he fight or flight?

I am tired of seeing RU hoops players transfer out.

It's sad that the "Board Crusader" is posting comments in multiple threads about players transferring out this year.......that's ridiculous and over the top beating the drum of negativity. Another sad thing is that other posters are seeing his ridiculous comments and are starting to repeat it.

that's true I like to see what a fresh new coach with college experience can do with a few of the talented guys we do have. If he can get lucky and snags some recruits to mesh in with Corey, we could see dividends right away from the new guy

Down 30+ at half and he is dancing during warmups....not exactly the look of a successful program.
Give it a rest. He's a college player trying to stay positive. It can't be easy to take the court every game knowing you're about to get pounded.

Love Sanders quotes. If he sticks and everyone comes back healthy, that will be great. Hopefully the coaches are able to find someone talented who is being lightly recruited for whatever reason.

Chop -- like BK, you are a good fan. You must root for the Cubs too. No one expected Sanders ... or Jordan ... turn the program around in 1 year. But, we're in Year 3 with putrid recruiting for Year 4 and a complete lack of progress, injuries or not, in the program and the development of player skills.

Reality is that there is no evidence that Diallo and Doorson are close to B1G talent and your "speedy and high flying" Johnson was a soph reserve with 5.2 ppg and 1.7 apg on a mediocre B12 team. Do you really want 6-1 Sanders and 6-1 Johnson on the floor together in the B1G?

The worse reality is that Dalip, Show and Van make up (by far) the most shallow staff in the B1G with nothing in their careers to suggest that they can develop the marginal talent that they've recruited into anything remotely resembling a B1G program.

We'll disagree on former Pitt recruit Doorson...he showed promise last year as a good low post defender and rebounder. Regarding Nigel Johnson....soph reserves averaging 5 ppg usually turn into Juniors averaging 10+ per game as starters. I'm not ready to judge a 6'10" freshmen as a non contributor after he only played 10 games.

I don' have any comments on the staff......I have not seen them at work coaching players in practice, have you ?

Really bad "bac-esque" like comment. Maybe you want him sitting on the bench and crying ?

He doesn't have to be dancing. Find me a program that would EVER have a player doing that in that spot and I'll show you a losing program.

...and yes, as a fan that invest a lot of time and $ on the program I would have felt a lot better if he was on the bench crying. What it shows is there is no accountability and expectations for success. Failure is a given and acceptable.

Lol, yes, Nigel Johnson will be such dud. Guy dropped 20 on #8 Kansas, 17 on #12 Iowa State and 14 on #21 West Virginia.

And I guess you would not have taken a freshman and sophomore reserve named Frank Kaminsky who averaged 1.8ppg and 4.2ppg based on that logic. Not saying that Nigel Johnson is Frank Kaminsky, but outside of the elite recruits, there is a progression among players.

Amazing how some people don't realize that unless you are a top 50 player that most guys put it all together by their Junior year.....only some Rutgers fans label true freshmen or sophomores as busts.

Our current starting center has regressed under Jordan. There is an example.

I agree with most posters that Jordan appears to be in over his head and this year is an absolute shit show, but you're wrong about Doorson. I think he showed last year as a freshman big man that he clearly belongs in the Big10. 7 footers typically take time to develop, yet Shaq showed real signs of progress last year. He was the pleasant surprise last year's team. He is sorely missed this year.

LOL. Eddie Jordan's boys beat Wisconsin last year too. Whoop de damn doo.

Go look at the boxes for the other 26 games and you'll see why Johnson was on the bench behind others, including a transfer from UMaine. Better chance that he has a Judge-like career at RU than a couple of Kaminsky years. But he's a point, and how many mpg will he get if Sanders is still here? Two points in the game is like having no point in the game. And, not for nothing, with this staff, uh, developing his game, who knows what the hell to expect out of anyone?

Shaq is not the end all but we could sure use some of that beef he showed around the rim in the video. Everything was a dunk, but at least he had movement to the rim. As crappy as this year has been I sure wish we could be evaluating it was the full team in place. What a mess.

Kaminisky took off in his junior year. What players came in as freshmen and are now juniors under Jordan ?
There have been very few recent Rutgers players that stayed four years and showed marked improvement from their freshmen year.

I agree Wins and Losses at this point is not a good judge of progress, especially with 7 scholarship players. Really the judgement of progress is player development. Now Eddie hasn't had "his players" for more than 2 years at this point, so who is a player that has been here all 3 years Eddie has been here? Greg Lewis. Poor Greg is undermanned and undersized most nights he is playing because of the lack of front court depth but take that out of the equation. My question to all of you is, have you seen significant improvement from '13-'14 Lewis to '15-'16 Lewis?

Successful college basketball coaches are dependent on developing their players and improving them so that when they come in as Freshman, they leave with a better skill set as a Senior. Right now the failures of the team are not on the players, they're trying. The failures are on the staff.

So unless a transfer is scoring 18ppg at a P5 school by his sophomore year, then we shouldn't take him. Great philosophy lol. Step aside Shoes, 78CollegeAve is in the house.

Would you rather have Foreman guarding the 7 foot kid or Doorson? Doorson did block some shots last year and is a big body. And good for Sanders and the positive attitude.

This is not accurate. I DID look at the box scores, about 6 or 8 weeks ago.

Johnson was a bench player for the 1st half of the season, or more (as a Sophomore) ... he played most games (though he might not have played every game), and maybe averaged 8-10 minutes a game. Then Kansas St blew up with injuries and suspensions - total dysfunction. The starting 2G was suspended and/or injured, as well as at least 1 additional wing player. Johnson started 8 games, subsequently, and though his scoring was not consistent, it went up dramatically in the last 1/3 of the season. He remained starting even after Kansas St's best scorer returned (or was allowed to return), a guard. When another player retur ed, Johnsoin did return to the bench, but in several games thereafter played PLENTY of minutes.

Plus, another inaccurate statement in the above post, Johnson is NOT a PG, but a shooting guard. He is somewhat undersized for a 2G (6'1" maybe?), but is definitely a scoring guard, not a PG.

That does not mean he will be a star - or even good. But your opinion (which may be accurate) is based on inaccurate facts, if your opinion is based on what you cite in the post.

Well .. there were times Grier, Goode or Williams were covering either the 7'0" starting center for Purdue, OR the 6'9" starting PF ... it was ridiculous, and the RU players available to play were truly helpless.

Jelly, when the 7 foot bench player came in it just showed how shortchanged we are now.

How did Williams do against Swanigan? Swanigan posted him up, Williams made the effort and fronted him, Purdue guard tried the difficult lob pass, Williams leaped and stole it.

It isn't easy, but Rutgers could have made it a bit more difficult. Any NFL QB can make all the passes without a pass rush. A guard or wing can make an entry pass to the post pretty effectively without any resistance from a defender.

You could have also asked Sanders to guard a big and had Batie instead of Goode. I'd think on the other end Batie could have taken Swanigan off the dribble for a drive and pass to the perimeter.

He's probably excited about the future since he knows EJ will be replaced.

Nice!
Check out the score from last year.
Seton Hall 76
Rutgers 45

Thanks for the reminder (and further evidence we need to go in another direction).

Welcome to my ignore. 2nd one of the day. No need to respond directly to me about any of my future comments. With the new system, your name will not even appear on my screen and your comments will be invisible.

Jelly -- Inaccurate facts? Ok, I'll play. Go look at Nigel's Twitter where he describes himself as "Rutgers University Point Guard". So, are you saying that you know more about what position he plays than he knows?

https://twitter.com/takingflight_23

As far as Johnson's 14-15 season, yeah, I looked at the games too. I get it. You're a glass half full guy. Sorry, I see a kid who played an average of 18 minutes, shot 39% and hardly ever got to the line (good, only shot 67%). His assists to TO was 1.7 to 1. He had several good games. But his record is ... his record. And, he was, and is, a back-up point OR an undersized 2 with a questionable outside shot. He could be a solid 7th or 8th man in the rotation for RU next year, giving Sanders a blow.
