CVS goes nuclear on the RAC

Good for her! (and RU)...gravitas...she has it!

She is 100% right of course!

Glad to see others start to say it besides message board posters.

Doesn't help recruiting efforts to trash what we have, but damn that needed to be said and needs to be echoed over and over by RU faithful.

CVS sounds like some of our posters - wow! Bottom line though out of every sport she has had the most success recruiting....but we all know that upgrades are needed.

and boom goes the dynamite…….nice job Viv, i will say from a pure fan standpoint, seeing OSU's bball arena this past oct, Viv is right, its embarrassing to our kids but mostly the fans. still can't believe the RAC has ONE set of bathrooms, I've taken friends to games from maryland and uconn and they are like "this is your home court?" its was cute in 2000, 2001 when the RAC was rocking but 14 years later with slight improvement to scoreboards, thats not enough. esp with all that space on livingston. bball is why i chose to go to RU after visiting with my family and taking in a game, I loved it then and I hate how bball has become now, she's right.

CVS was awesome....hopefully this wakes the BOG up out of their slumber....they along with Barchi are flat out cowards. basketball has been neglected for over 25 years, enough is enough

Damn. Shots fired.

How about this solution for the problem......

Fire her and pay her replacement a reasonable amount of money. Invest the difference in men's basketball where an improved product gets the ball rolling.

Haha some moron (jersey fatmouth) on there said we already have world class facilities. Unfortunately this is the type of stubborn stupidity that we are up against when it comes to raising money and trying to gain support for our state university. Amazing how people will say idiotic things without having any clue what our competitors have in place.

I can't say I agree with this, but I know there are plenty of others out there who would be fine with this approach, so I'll ask: what would firing CVS save at the end of the day? Maybe $500k per year max? Would that be enough to move the needle at all with the men's program? Or is the problem bigger? Just want to take your approach and build on how it would actually be executed.

Do we need a bigger name head coach, and if so, would the additional $500k get that person here?
Do we funnel that $500k into higher quality assistant coaches? If so, does that get the job done with EJ at the helm?
Do we just take the $500k, cheat, and funnel it to some AAU coaches?

What's the plan of action with that money?

How far do you really think that $1 million will take men's basketball. They will still have no facilities, the lowest paid coaches and will have to continue to take reaches hoping that they can match up with better programs. But at least they can stay in nicer hotel rooms, I suppose with that money.

You cannot be so ill informed to think that a few hundred thousand dollars is going to change anything. Thats the answer, fire the only successful Coach RU has & save a few dollars.

REALLY? Did you think of that one all by yourself? Why do people like to throw good money (winning WBB) after bad (MBB)? How about you take the case to Trenton where the real problem starts and ends.

Nice job Stringer. It's great to see people speak their mind. Putting pressure on the University is the only way improvements will occur.

Anybody here heard of something called Title IX?

Pay for assistant coaches and a recruiting budget.

Match the current revenue and potential revenue with the amount allocated per program.

This strategy worked with football.

We are investing in women's basketball with the amount we are paying her...and return just can't be there...men's hoops different story.

cutting off the nose to spite the face...

The athletic department is where it is today because money was invested in the sport that can bring the best possible return. Given where we are today where would an incremental 500K best be put to work?

What other P5 school pays it's mens and women's basketball coaches the same?

RU does NOT pay CViv the same as EJ, CViv has a $700 thousand a year contract, learn what you are talking about before you post

She is probably the only coach at the school with enough juice to say that, get away with it and have people listen.
She earned her paycheck today in my eyes. Bravo!

She may be saying what we all have been saying, but publicly peeing in your own pool is not something to be cheered on. CVS is very good at it though; I feel like I read this same anger & fury 10 years ago when football got the sugar and she was pointing at the WBB locker room.

VIVIAN IS 100% RIGHT. I HOPE BETWEEN HER, SENATOR LESNIAK AND EVERYONE ELSE WHO WANTS TO GET INVOLVED THIS GETS DONE.

For all the crap we give the Star Ledger, they are helping the cause by printing these articles.

For all of us who say Vivian is overpaid (including me) she deserves a raise if she is one of the catalysts to get us the facilities we need

Do you know how much her salary is now or just sprouting off the same ol same ol BS that's been used to diss CVS for years.
You should check her new contract, before acting like you know what she makes.

Good job Viv

C Viv is about as useful as Lesniak.

Complain all day long, but no willingness to actually help the situation. If C Viv wasn't so damn abrasive, maybe the women's team would sell more tickets? Maybe it would raise more money? Instead it raises nowhere near the support of comparable teams. Why? Because C Viv is notoriously apathetic toward the fan base, makes virtually zero attempt at garnering fan support, and is generally toxic to the Rutgers community at large. She has been for years. What other program wins like she does, and has attendance that low??

So like Lesniak, who wants RU to "act like its in the Big Ten" despite the fact we have Big East revenue, the worst donation levels in the Big Ten, and state support that is frankly a joke, C Viv wants the women's team to have comparable facilities even though she has made absolutely zero effort to do anything to broaden the women's fan base or generally increase interest in women's basketball.

And everyone cheers them both on for "helping." And the SL and NJ.com get to write dozens of articles slamming the school. What a joke. Pay attention people. Schiano got the football program built because he made the plans, and went out and got the donors in line. He MADE it happen. Unless Lesniak or CViv is willing to MAKE it happen, through their own efforts, they should both just shut the F up.

Bottom line is that she's right. The question is whether her spot-on rant (to go along with the politicians' rants) will be enough to get things done. Christie has shown he cares more about every team NOT located in NJ than Rutgers. Nothing will come from the state until at least the next governor arrives, if then.

Go C Viv! It's unconscionable that the flagship State U in the richest state in the country has such deplorable sports facilities. I hate the "arms race" in college sports, as it truly does represent $$ that could be better spent on academics, and I wish the University presidents would get together and figure out a way to control the mess that collegiate sports have become, but regardless of that, we shouldn't be near the bottom in facilities - at least spend the $$ to get us to the middle of the pack.

Well, nothing is gonna happen until Barchi is gone. CVS, whatever you do, going forward don't be around Barchi if there are any mass transit vehicles in the area.

I'll say this for the umpteenth time...they need to knock down that dump and build a 10-12K arena with seats ALL THE WAY AROUND THE COURT no more. Donotneed any bigger than that and with successful teams not a stretch to pack the arena
