Dan Duggan is SHOCKED...

The media has to held responsible for their actions. If they want to write only hack pieces then they get locked out. When Flood has his press conference he should call on Duggan last if at all.

Didn't he sort of do that today? Wasn't that Duggan leading off with the arrest questions in the post game?

Would it really be unheard of to limit NJ.com's writers access to the program?

Get through the next couple of weeks. Let everything shake out. Coach the team representatives and players that have access how to communicate with a hostile media and all will be fine. Sounds like a great game plan.

what an *sshole Duggan asking that as the 1st question.....just shows his slimeball agenda....cant wait for him to get fired...Flood said lets talk about the game 1st and then get to that...when the female reporter (im guessing Tara Sullivan) said can we switch gears to the investigation she said she was going to defer to Dan's initial question....so indeed it was Duggan who asked that as the 1st question...10 minute mark in presser

Agree 100%. Very 1st question of a post FOOTBALL GAME press conference?! Are you freakin' kidding me???!!!

You can not make this stuff up.

Yo Dan. It's done. It's over. The kids did bad things. The kids have been kicked off the team. Time to move on dude. Go chase an ambulance or something.

Rutgers won 63-13 and Dan just had to ask about the timeline of the players being arrested as the first question. Hey Dan, you are a low life blogger.

Not only that, there is an obvious QB controversy. But ask away about kids who have not only been dismissed from the program but kicked out of the university. SL = Low life pieces of shit.

So glad to never read that amateurs sh*t here. Not posting their stuff is the best thing this fan base can do.

Piss off Duggan, you blow.

My son and I actually got a good laugh out of that first question. I had told him that the SL pretty much opened every after practice press conference with a leading question. So when we heard on the post game show that they were going to Flood's press conference my son said "There's no way they're gonna do that today." And then we heard the opening question.

They didn't even ask anything about the injuries. How is Hamilton? How is Turay?

Nope, need to get that big scoop on 5 kids who will never step foot on campus again. That's important. Not the 40+ something kids who actually played.

I did not like seeing Flood and the team using this crisis like a rallying cry to close ranks as if.. they're all out to get us.

Save that for when you have a real reason to be outraged.

But I get it... Flood is using this to rally the team around eachother... but it was team-mates who let them down.. not the media, administration, Mason Gross part-time profs... it was the players who let their teammates and themselves and their families down.

Closing the doors of the lockerroom for this? Big mistake by Flood on a day when he did almost everything right... save not doing a 2 minute drill to end the first half.

Don't mind Duggan and Sarge as for the most part both did write quite a few positive pieces on the team during first three weeks of camp. Politi on the other hand should be banned from campus. He simply has an axe to grind.

I respectfully disagree. IMO the whole idea of using this as a rallying cry and closing ranks has more to do with the email nonsense being blown out of proportion, not the arrests. Because let's face it, the email nonsense pales in comparison now but the media set that issue up as if it were Watergate. Their coverage of THAT issue was something to be outraged over.

Be honest, what's a bigger story?

RU waxing another terrible historical Div I-AA black college?

or

Just moments before the start of the game, Rutgers dismisses 5 players (including numerous starters) from the program due to their arrest on felony charges just days earlier?

RU has never dismissed that many starters/players from the program just prior to opening day so it shouldn't be surprising to see that was the first question brought up. (Now if the players were officially dismissed from the program weeks ago, then yes, the initial question would have been out of line).

Of course it's a bigger story but use some tact, some professionalism. Asking it as the very first question was just bush league. But then again, what should we expect from some blogger?

The team just had a very good game and the players should be able to enjoy that moment for a while.... We all know that the animals that are the press we're going to ask question after question about the five.... Screw the press
Let them wait outside like a Pet waiting to get back into its house

Rutgers highlights on ESPN... Not one mention of the arrests... But according to the rag it's a scandal that "rocked the program".

You are all better men than me because I sought these writers out today hoping to spew off my favorite 4 letter wordNM

"Who among us would turn down free money, jewelry and hookers while in college?"

Just to give full context that's in relation to Marcus Camby being put in the UMass hall of fame. I suppose Calipari's bust should be right next to him. Another paragon of virtue. Winning is all that counts including with these hypocritical reporters.

Speaking of your UMass days….what are your thoughts on Marcus Camby being inducted to the UMass Hall of Fame? I don’t think I have to go into the reasons why this seems seedy at best…

DDuggan: Some people have a problem with it, but I don’t. He put UMass on the map. Who among us would turn down free money, jewelry and hookers while in college? He paid back the money UMass lost from the sanctions and took responsibility for it so it’s all good to me.

What's with all the angst? Since we have other local news outlets and about 5 pro-RU bloggers, you don't think you can get quality coverage of the team? I don't need to know how someone feels as he's catching his third TD or running for his 2 one. I need to know what the coach thinks and he will always do his presser. I haven't clicked on an nj.com article (besides Todderick Hunt-that's a good dude right there) all week (even before the arrests) and I haven't felt I missed anything I needed to know about the team.

If I wanted a police blotter, sure, I can click on those articles. But I don't. and I won't. With BTN, multiple CFB blogs on Twitter not to mention Scout, Rivals, ChopNation and On the Banks along with Double G sports, Sal Soothsayer, etc. there is PLENTY of other places to get information. You don't always have to look for the doom and gloom.

Search out other things besides these nitwits. We are living in an on-demand society today. The same stuff the NJ.com guys are writing others are writing as well. Although I loathe the PSU coverage, even the APP has some good stuff.

Apparently RU was one of the few colleges to open the locker room after games. So we're just like most other schools now.

Glad they did this. I would have hated if The three douchateers would have baited one of our younger players into saying something bad in the heat of the moment.

I love that Flood is giving a big FU to the media. Yes, it sucks for the guys that are professional but who cares. I also don't think it has to do with any single incident but started with DD reporting plays from practice. Then the hack and attack writing ever since. If I am Flood and the admin, I make it obvious who I am pissed at and just pull the creds from hacks like DD and Politi who don't write sports but try to stir up shit. Tell their papers that they can have their creds back but not for these writers.
This is not the old days where we need to kiss up to the local media. We are talked about on BTN every damn day.

The Press is in the Penalty Box. Major penalty for being Majors Suckers to the program. Give them probation for a few weeks. See if they have rehabilitated themselves and can rejoin society.

The real simple way to handle is instruct your player and everyone in your program that when thrown the questions out to you about the arrests or the email just have this coined response.
"Thank You for the question but I cannot answer that question but if you'd like to ask a game related question about our results on the field today feel free". Otherwise interview is over

Couple of thoughts after 24 hours of reflection on this issue:

1. Saturday was the day for Flood to stand up and face the fire. This happened under his watch. And even though with other schools (i.e. FSU) have a media that would follow the "no corpse, no problem" rule, RU should hold itself to a higher standard as should the media. As this is Flood's team, it was his responsibility to stand up and taker the heat, overstated or not.

2. I heard both Carroo and Hamilton interviewed outside the locker room on the matter. They both handled it well. As team captains and seniors they should address it and they did well.

3. The thought of releasing a swarm of piranha into a locker room that is not exclusively populated with 22 year old team captains, but has numerous 18 and 19 year old true freshmen who just played (or sat) in their first college game is absurd. I'm totally behind shutting the locker room this week. It gets trickier with respect to subsequent weeks given RU's prior policy. I think the Flood, the other coaches and the team captains should get together and make the decision collectively.

Duggan needs to be shocked with a stun gun, or maybe shocked by a toaster tossed into his bath tub.
