Dan Hurley

Need to throw the kitchen sink at Danny. Even if it means overpaying or putting RU in a position contractually that is not very favorable.

He would bring credibility to the program and has some chops in the state. It would still be a rebuilding project but it would be more tolerable for a RU fan if Danny was the coach.

The worst thing he can do is say no.

yep..perfect time to jump fro URI. The small segment of our fanbase who dislikes him better get over it

As one of the people who have argued against Hurley, it is not that I dislike him. I just question whether those who are enamored with him like his skills, record, and expertise, or if they like his name and connection to his father.

That's why I question if he would be as popular here if his last name was Malloy.

Few positives here...I do not like DH demeanor on the sidelines, lots of refs hate the guy. However, he can coach his ass off. His staff could use some bolstering outside of you know who. Love Jimmy Carr, not sure how good a recruiter he is, but serves as a strong motivational element. Antonio Reynolds Dean is new to the sidelines, so I would wonder if DH came to RU, who would he retain and/or replace on his staff to effectively get the job done here. I am just thankful to Eddie is GONE.

I will also gladly take Herb Sendek, but to be honest, I really do not see RU landing DH or HS. Structural changes MUST be made and a true commitment to basketball must be exhibited.

Danny Hurley is the top choice, regardless of what the board thinks. Doesn't mean he takes it.

His track record really isn't that good...a single post-season tournament???

You start with rotten teams and build. I think the Wagner team in 2010 was awful and URI won 7 games in 2012.
He would have won 20 again this year if his two best players werent hurt. This is not that hard

I get that, which is what Sendek did at 3 different schools, however, MUCH more successfully.

Manhattan won about 5 games the season before Masiello got there. They were abysmal. He took them to back to back ncaa tournaments.

Fair enough. The problem is RU getting a guy whose track record is 'that good'? I mean a guy who is a slam dunk hire for a BCS team is likely not coming to RU right now.

Can he bring in another assistant to replAce David Cox? I don't see him following Hurley back to Rutger

Ironically, the Jordan firing comes on the 30th anniversary of formation of the Pining for Hurley Foundation, a core of our fan base that thinks one will come to New Brunswick to coach. Maybe it happens, but my money's elsewhere.

Please God no. More of the same. We've been down this road before. We need a big time cultural change, sorta like football. Look far away for a fresh start. Hurley is a used car.

On March 25, 2014, Masiello agreed to a deal to become the next head coach at South Florida.[2] However, South Florida later rescinded their offer after it was reported that he had not graduated from the University of Kentucky, as his resume had stated.[3] Masiello was subsequently placed on leave by Manhattan.[4] It was announced on April 7, 2014, that Masiello will be retained as Manhattan head coach, but is on permanent leave until he gets his undergraduate degree.[5] On May 29, the University of Kentucky announced that Masiello had completed his required coursework and would receive a degree that August.[6]

I'll take Sendek's resume over Hurley's and he is a very good hire, IMHO, for a P5 school. Turned 3 programs around, took NC State to 5-straight NCAA's, took ASU to 1 and got ripped off in his 3rd year. "Slam dunk," no, but a very good option for many P5 schools IMHO.

I would as well. Still, Hurley would be a solid hire (IMO). Maybe not the best we could hope for, but pretty good.

Let's face it, with the hole we are in perception, facilities and support wise, every hire has a pretty good shot of simply not getting it done here. This is a damn hard job and even a good coach/hire could fail.

I see him as a candidate but top of the list? I would prefer we exhaust a couple of other options first. Particularly Sendek. I am not as high on lonergan as some other but would speak with him as well.

He hardly turned Arizona St around, if he had he would not have been fired.

Danny turned two dismal programs around and as someone here stated if he had a healthy roster would have finished in the top 3 of the conference this year and will definitely be a top pick to the win the A-10 next year.

There are warts with him (that Maryland incident is one) but beggars can't be choosers here. Not convinced he would say yes but he needs to be the first call.

Can Rutgers spend 3 Million though for buyouts of Jordan and Hurley and then plus the staff salary to get Hurley? When they can get an equal or better coach on that salary alone?

That's exactly the point. They need to get ready to throw gobs of money at this thing it is the only way to even get him to think about it because right now this is a very difficult job in a very difficult conference with very qualified coaches who keep reloading every year.

Rebuilding jobs are tough even for dogged coaches like Danny.

I thought we didn't have the money to fire Jordan - we just did.

We shall see what happens

Took ASU to two NCAA's!

He wouldn't be nearly as popular as evidenced by guys with better resumes that rarely come up in conversation. Yet Hurley is a constant. His name somehow makes him more valuable to Rutgers fans. He's elevated to a status beyond his resume.

If he's hired, I expect him to kill it in recruiting immediately. If he doesn't land recruits quickly than he's not what everyone is selling him as. I expect to see recruiting leap forward very quickly. If his name and his connections are the reason we are supposed to look beyond his actual resume then no excuses in recruiting.

If it's him I hope he's successful and I hope all the buzz about him is correct. But I don't think we should just accept him as a great hire just because his name is Hurley.

is any of that the same group that wanted to keep Eddie as coach regardless of how we were doing?

For me, the decision on Eddie was whether we had the bucks to make a strong move or if we would be better off next year.

Can someone please explain to me why a hot head with a mediocre record in far lesser conferences and zero, repeat ZERO, trips to the dance is something to get excited about?

As others have said, if his name wasn't Hurley, we are not even having this conversation. No NCAA bids. Record hasn't been as good as predecessor at URI. Don't recall great recruiting while he was here as an assistant. Previous seven year demand was ridiculous. Too many red flags.

Masiello reportedly wants the job. He'd be my first choice over Hurlet, who turned us down once before.

Masiello is also a better coach, in my opinion.

Are you really gonna knock dan for not making the tourney. He had Wagner on the brink and had the team do a 180 after 1 year, rhode island wouldve been top 25 this year if their two best players didnt get hurt. And when his two best players get hurt he doesnt get blown out every single game and go 7-25.
