Derek Simpson…

Derek will be a candidate for B1G Freshman of the Year. We have so many good pieces it’s hard to pick a favorite. This will be a very enjoyable year. Enjoy the ride.
He might be if Jett Howard wasn't in the league. He's gonna score 15 a night for Michigan.

It’s only two games against weak competition but Cam, Simpson, and Woolfolk have easily exceeded my expectations. Cam fills a stat sheet and does SO much more than shoot well, Simpson looks like a do-it-all guard with athleticism and extreme confidence, and Woolfolk has the strength, agility and footwork of a seasoned player, along with passing skills and a jump hook.

Last year, at this time, we were inserting Hyatt, who looked lost, and a grossly over-rated Jaden Jones, while struggling to beat weak competition and even losing to Lafayette. This year, the newcomers are contributing to blowing weak teams out of the RAC.

I think we got a real steal with this kid.

South Jersey basketball (outside of Camden) doesn’t put out a ton of high caliber D1 talent (compared to hs football).

Simpson could have played in Philly or a North Jersey powerhouse but decided to stay with Lenape and probably went a bit under the radar because of that.

I've only watched the highlights of the first two games, though the highlight video for last night's game was over 20 minutes. Everything looks good.

But it's preseason, and we're playing bad teams. We won't even start to learn what type of team this is until the Miami game and as we move through December into 2023.

We know the team can sail in a clear breeze. Hopefully we will learn that they also can navigate rough seas.

Narrator: It is not preseason

Tell Pikiell and Co. the Lafayette game was preseason last season.

It was the major storyline all year.

Where is the 20-minut video highlight?

Arizona State was interested. Team 2000 miles away thought he was good.

Like all freshmen, he’s got plenty to work on, decision making primarily. But with two of our key experienced guys out, it was good to see the new guys step up and help grind out a win and avoid potential disaster in, drum roll….the preseason.

Can we pump the breaks on a guy shooting 10-30? I like his game but let's not go overboard based on three games against lower level teams.
I trust my eyes. You can just see "IT" with Simpson and Woolfolk.

The same way I knew Jaden Jones had issues with court awareness on offense and defense after watching him in a few games.

THe same way I knew Jalen Miller was a ball hawk on defense that would help the team after watching him a few games last year.

DS is going to be a great player for RU, but I think some of his shots are forced. He had an open man at least 3 or 4 times.
I was very disappointed that he missed a bunch of people and he doesn’t see the court while driving.

Cliff is 7 foot and ran the court. I know he drew the foul and scored the 2 points, but the ball has to be given to Cliff

late in 1st half Cliff sprinted down court and had his man posted. We had a player on the wing so with 2 passes Cliff has his guy deep. Simpson didn’t see it.

Yup last year some younger guys looked lost early on, none really do this year, Chol maybe a bit.

3 games into his career if this is the worst thing he's doing, I'm pretty darn happy.

When he finally hits that one handed, baseline slam I'm gonna be so happy for him. He's tried in each of the last 2 games and couldn't put it down. At least today's effort was somewhat close and he got fouled.
