Derek Simpson…

It's a little early but if we are comparing freshman from years past, the difference is now there are pieces in place that don't ask kids like Simpson to do too much, too soon.

The injuries to Caleb and now Mulcahy are placing much more emphasis on Spencer Hyatt and Simpson to be producing. It's probably the best thing to see this vs what we saw last year when Miller eventually was forced into action and wasn't ready.....and Jaden Jones was playing early and not in sync with defense or the dirty work.

I was very disappointed that he missed a bunch of people and he doesn’t see the court while driving.

Cliff is 7 foot and ran the court. I know he drew the foul and scored the 2 points, but the ball has to be given to Cliff

late in 1st half Cliff sprinted down court and had his man posted. We had a player on the wing so with 2 passes Cliff has his guy deep. Simpson didn’t see it.
I didn’t see the last game but he certainly made some nice passes first 2 games. He is also in game 3 of his career. We had people wanting to run people off the team at halftime of their first game (ie Caleb). Give him a chance to learn and adjust to speed of college game.

Does he have things to improve? Of course he does. But 3 games in I have zero concerns about Simpson.

This kid is the real deal and today sealed it for me. He's quick with the ball and not afraid to take tough shots. When he makes mistakes, he forgets them and doesn't sulk which are qualities he'll need as the competition improves.

It's tough to believe he's a freshman. Right now, I'd say he's our #3 scoring option behind Cliff and Cam.

Really love his game...will continue to keep improving and would like to see him finish more around the basket or really up his passing game when he drives. Otherwise has a really nice looking shot from the outside and his confidence will grow where he is knocking these down more. I really believe he will be the difference in one of these big games we have coming up and will catch the other team off guard as they are overplaying someone like Cam

He has HUGE upside, and I strongly believe he will have a major impact this year. However he is a Freshman - and like most Freshman there will be ups and downs, and bumps in the road. Buckle up and enjoy the roller coaster.

Looking forward to seeing him play along side Caleb and/or Paul against a real team. This year - his role needs to be more like Geo’s was when he played with Corey. Unfortunately that wasn’t possible for the Temple game as we didn’t have our other PGs.

I agree he has potential. Many players don't reach their potential. Many. So what would reaching that potential mean? To me, it's hitting around 35% from 3 (check), having an A/TO ratio of 3 or better with at least 3 assists per game (needs a lot of work), and a 40% FG% overall with at least 4 attempts per game (needs work). Not that far off, but progress needs to be made. He will get better, but the competition also gets better. We will see.

Wrote an impressive first chapter to his story today. Legit took that game over at a pretty critical point today.

I would say #3 behind Cliff and Caleb

Where is the Rutgers fan who, literally days ago, was saying Simpson was “not quick” .

Seriously one of the stupidest things I’ve seen posted on here in a long time

He is going to have great games like this and bad games. He is going to be great one possession and head scratching the next.

One shot is a line drive, the next is a rainbow and the next is back to line drive.

He is so much more comfortable being off the ball. He helps us on the defensive end.

He’s fearless and aggressive. With time and experience he’s going to be very good. Another big under the radar score for Pike.

The 5th option on the floor is the perfect way for him to learn. He played lights out in the 1st half, he just happened to miss all 4 of his shots.....instead of hesitating or passing up shots, he kept playing, attacking, scoring and improving his game by leaps and bounds.

He is quick and he matches up in the quickness department with a lot of players.....there's no doubt to me, he's a top end recruit, irregardless of whatever the rankings say......
