did not understand issa's foul on

yes..that was an absolute brutal foul, didnt kill RU because he only made one free throw but I am sure Pike will go over with him what he did wrong in that situation

Only thing I can think of is because we were up 1 even with MSU taking lead by 1 if foul shots made we get ball with chance to win. If no foul MSU holds for final shot with chance to win. Maybe coach felt he had more confidence in winning with last shot as opposed to stopping MSU from scoring. Only an opinion not saying that is what happened.

It almost did look like it was on purpose, but I can't imagine a coach calling for a foul up one with seconds left.

Seemed like the commentators thought it was logical. Both teams were in the double bonus. Rather have time on the clock left?

I rewatched , that foul was outside the three point line and Doorson was right behind Issa, there was no open lane to hoop...did look intentional.

The only coach I ever recall who would give a foul in that situation was the late great Jim Valvano. He refused to allow you to beat him at the buzzer. He wanted to have the ball in his hands (well, his team's hands) for the last shot.

I did not think it was intentional. I thought it was another example in the disparity in how the game was called on one end versus the other. That far from the basket, let them play!

Issa gave him two hands right in the chest. There was no getting around that one.

I was thinking maybe it was so we had more time to take the last shot, but I checked, we would have had around 20 second left on the clock and the ball, even if they drained they're shot clock down to the buzzer and made a shot.

OP said there were 8 seconds left. Was he referring to game or shot clock? I thought it was game clock. If what you state is correct then my theory holds no weight. If someone could verify would be appreciated

It was a bad foul but he played tremendous D all game up to that point, committing only 1 foul I believe.
Bridges is a all American player who Michigan State knows will take and make the big shot with the game on the line.As fans we like to analyze what might have happened on a given play.In a nail biter type contest there were many plays that could have been the difference between winning and losing.Lets not forget that Rutgers had less than 30 points at half time which required them to be in catch up mode most of the second half.

Now I have to go back and look, but I remember thinking that RU was up one and Bridges had the ball and RU would still have time to get a good shot. But I could be conflating possessions.

Sorry, I just went back and checked the play-by-play. It was the possession before where RU forced Bridges into a turnover.

I thought

I thought it was a dumb foul, but my son swore it was intentional. Pikiel and everyone else on the court didnt cringe, so I'm thinking he could be right. Any basketball coaches on this board?

watched it this morning..... it was a bad foul because it was well away from the basket....even if the player got around him, there might have been a RU big to front him..... it certainly should not have been intentional....

It made no sense in either case. The only reason you foul is if you are totally beat underneath, because then you might as well put them on the line. Clock was running out...high pressure situation.... correct play is to D them up and hope they miss a well defended chuck.

They way MSU had been shooting, there is little question in my mind it cost us the game.

Come on guys. That was not intentional. We should know that. A terrific player in Bridges made a nice play, Thiam reacted. Simple as that.

If foul was intentional, we needed to take a much better last shot. I do not understand why teams, when tied or down 1, take a long three.(i noticed his a lot during last year's NCAA) Especially being tied, a drive to hoop is much better play. Draw a foul, or even have chance of putback off a miss..our effort in the OT was excellent, as with all the foul trouble we could have lost by 10. Corey was fouled, and that cost us an opportunity to win
