Did the Fernandes signing piss Cam off?

Absolutely true : if Steve Pikiell thought he was not able to replace Cam , Spencer would still be here playing less minutes by February. You don’t believe Fernandes , Simpson, Griffiths or even possibly Mulcahy ? You all need to understand Pike is not stupid .

Cam is not a guy who flies off the ball using screens catching and shooting. He is a guy that is catch and shoot. His success is purely dependent on others as he really doesn’t create his own shot. He wasn’t like Funk that will use off the ball screens and make his defender work hard.

Cam also spent quite a few games on the bench in crunch time. The hope is Gavin replaces what Cam did.
Was always cognizant that Coach sat Cam several times in crunch time
I look at it this way: our offense sucked with Cam and it could suck without Cam. Hopefully it improves however.

I liked Cam and what he did but at times he did not show up . Same as several others .

Seeing the NIL he may have received? This is a complete and utter 180, and there’s GOT to be a reason..

No. It is all about the money. RU offered next to nothing.

RU ‘s Pikiell was not going to go there even with Spencer… was not worth it.

I am not even sure if any RU basketball players get any NIL money. Who has the proof? How do we know for certain that Mag, Fernandes, McConnell or anyone for that matter got any NIL money at all? I think much of it is all speculation.

I’m going to predict at some point a big fish program or maybe even a itty bitty minnow type will get torched by another. When that happens you better believe it will set off another change ahead. Totally glad we are in this conference it is our only hope for sports on the B1G stage.

I’m not as down about Spencer leaving as others. He was either on or off. Adding Fernandes and Griffiths and keeping Mag gets us to where we needed to be, more athletic while adding shooters. Fact is, Cam saw his minutes going down. We will be fine

If pike refused to run Cam off screens, which he did refuse to do…Cam needed a PG who can penetrate the lane and dish. Mulcahy can only penetrate the lane in slow motion with his back to the basket trying to post up a smaller guard….plus Cam and Mulcahy together made our slow team even slower….and Paul’s man often sagged in the lane knowing he has an extremely slow release and often would t even shoot if he was wide open.

Cam was often underutilized this year and I expected a better version this year with Derek having a year under his belt and the addition of Noah.. Oh well, someone sure recognized it.
I agree with this take. I think Cam saw a crowded guard room and more athletic guards coming in and came to the realization his minutes and role are at risk of being reduced. With this being his last year of college ball and maybe some added cash the grass probably looks greener elsewhere.

Triggered over someone not loving Turkey day hahahaha.

Bob is mentally defective. Just ignore him

If that was his take then I think he would be mistaken. Having some guys that could drive and dish out to cam would only have helped his game. Cam’s basketball iq was really high I have to assume he would see Noah and Derrick as PG would benefit him

So it’s gotta be something else ($$$ and/or not being happy with program/school for another reason)

My guess is Cam didn’t see it as just Noah and Cam or Derrick and Cam. He probably, and accurately, saw more combinations of Noah and Derrick or Noah/Derrick plus Gavin or Paul. He might have seen Davis sprinkled in the mix too. Either way I think he probably saw himself spending potentially less time on the floor. He’ll probably go to a team where his role is similar to this past season. Good chance it wouldn’t be here.

You might be right .who knows what’s in the kids head. But I don’t think that’s a good take. The team is still in very desperate need for someone who can shoot. And he can. So i don’t see his role diminishing. If anything the addition of another shooter (Gavin) and a PG who can drive and dish (Fernandez and Derrick to a degree) I think would have opened things up for him (given him more open opportunities).

So while his minutes may have decreased (due to more guards) I think his scoring opportunities may have increased and/or would have been made easier.

You prove why you are a vile POS. Have a great day .

Kid had one year left and all things being equal [money included] he probably honed in on the fact that “minutes may have decreased” part. If headed to G’Town he certainly isn’t headed there for because of their on court success.

GO RU

Can is a gamer. I could see him stewing when he got benched - when he went cold as most players do.
I could see that guaranteed minutes without the ongoing concern that he could be benched at any time for going cold would be a major issue. He probably felt slighted to a degree as others were being courted around him. I guess we all took his continued presence for granted.

Yes.

Doubt it. Though guard room is crowded so may have at least considered it in his decision making. More likely he just got an opportunity he always coveted more to play at a school than RU.
Wonder if his brother was guiding him ?

If that was the reason ,Spencer wouldn't have waited to May 20,2023 to make the surprise announcement. It was a late NIL offer that changed his decision .Pikiell stated today in the Home News tribune that college basketball has changed in 2023 because of the NIL.

More minutes for Gavin. We’ll be fine.
And more shots 😀

Pretty sure Paul got paid for this or at least merchandise
This is how almost all NIL works players have to do something

Not that it matters at this point but a few years from now I think Cam will regret this decision - I'm assuming he's making some NIL $ now so the extra $50-60k he gets from Gtown may not be worth being another new name with a bunch of other new names on a team that is far from competing. In the short term he'll always feel $50k is worth it but down the road he'll wonder what could have been being a popular player on a good team.

GT, Georgetown and ND are all programs where he is guaranteed a lot of minutes - teams aren't very good. There was no guarantee at RU. After the end of last year plus the guard additions, my guess is he thought long and hard about playing time and decided to play elsewhere. I think NIL was a small part of the equation

Something happened with Cam. He was literally representing RU at an RFund event a few weeks ago - right? Only a total scum bag does that if they know they are leaving. I don’t see that with Cam. Just make up an excuse to bow out.

Chasing the almighty dollar can make people do things out of character and can also turn them into scumbags. I see it every day.

Maybe - but it doesn’t seem like a smart decision. Unless he was paid to be at that event which I guess is also possible. One thing that does come out of NIL is a bit more incentive to be classy and show sportsmanship. As a player, scoring is most important for fan support but it’s not the only factor that impacts personal brand. Unless your a super star, being likable is going to on average translate to more NIL.

its about someone‘s personal brand . Personal brand is important on the field , in your company , with your friends and at home with family. Too often a young athlete has no clue about this . However , you see many athletes like Ron junior , geo and caleb that understood that very well .
